Used worlds most infuriating outlet cover to replace shattered plastic door knob guard.
I was looking for a replacement for a plastic door knob wall guard that split in two one morning. I looked at the flaws in the design of the previous product: •hard brittle plastic •affixed by mounting tape I scoured amazon for something better. There were some guards made of metal with rubber domes in them, and I'm positive these would have worked great. Except for my issue was that the hole in the dry wall that necessitated the previous wall guard was not patched, and would not be patched anytime soon. These other solutions were to small to cover the damage already done. So I decided I wanted something metal large enough to cover the hole, and to be affixed by screws. This in the end met those to needs, as well as looking like the base my MacBook Pro. So with that plan in motion, I was able to tell my wife that it would be fixed soon. Two days later it arrived, and the what I could only describe as the most useless outlet cover ever, became a unique knob guard for the front door of the house. It even included 4 bolts (could be used to affix it to an electrical box, and a foam backing to ensure a seemless fit for it's intended purpose). I miraculously found four identical screws to replace these bolts that were worthless in how I was using the product, and affixed it over the hole with the foam backing to provide protection for the wall from the curved edge of its new protector. I swung the door opened, the door knob collided with the metal guard. The wall was protected, but alas the guard suffered a small dent. A very small dent, but not the pristine square plate that is shown above. I realized at this moment that I needed to have a backup to this plan when the wife got home, just in case she didn't see this small dent as the charming piece of character that I saw it as. I drove to Home Depot and bought the same plastic circle I had broken earlier that week, just in case. But in the words of my wife, she "didn't hate it" (success!) and for the past couple weeks it has remained guarding the wall. To ensure that dent like this won't occur again, I think the metal would need to be thicker, or reinforced by something more then the foam pad (maybe dry wall?), but making the door guard too rigid might cause eventual damage to the door knob it is colliding with. The dent has not changed since then and is not noticeable unless you have a strange fetish at really scrutinizing door guards at other peoples houses.

Just like at the big box stores, but I don't have to dig for it
Standard metal, weatherproof coverplate. Essential parts for building an electric home brewery, with the waterproofing foam gasket that has multiple punched patterns already scored on it for your particular use.

Well this is what I wanted size and color wise ...
Well this is what I wanted size and color wise, but pain in the neck as I have to go to the trouble of returning it as it only came with 2 screws. What a no brainer, 4 screw holes and only 2 screws.

Perfect Satin Finish
Needing to mount a couple of power monitors new my breaker box, I first tried making the necessary cutout in a plastic outlet cover -- it was too weak to stand the cutting. With this metal cover it was pretty easy to make the cutout with a saber saw. The assembly looks great (I Think).
