Great heater, with some quirks

It became really cold here so I ordered this heater which arrived after the cold weather had passed. Now I have a cool, grey tower in my room just waiting for some cold weather to blast through the south again. I still tested the thing anyway. To start, it came in some brown, non-discreet rectangular packaging. Everything was included. The unit was well-protected and clearly new. Getting it out the box was easy. Assembling the heater was also no problem. To get the stand ready, connect the two halves together then use the two smaller screws to stick them together. Getting the stand attached to the main unit was also easy. My recommendation is to put the main unit on its side and then pull the power cord through the hole in the stand. Once done, flip the main unit upside-down, use one hand to stabilize it then use the other to attach the stand. You simply spin the stand until it clicks into place then screw it with the four longer screws. You route the cable through the two plastic clips and you're done. Assembly was problem-free and only took me a few minutes. Apparently, there's two different remotes, one with a screen and a more basic one. Mine has the basic remote which wasn't a big deal since I got it working with my universal remote and I never planned on using it anyway. The remote feels lightweight, cheap, and the buttons are noisy. The transmitter in the remote isn't great either. It requires you to be dead-center when aiming at the unit. It isn't a problem with the heater since it works no problem with my universal remote even while oscillating - it comes down to the remote. The buttons on the main unit are also wobbly and loud. It's a shame because everything else about the product is great. The base is sturdy. The heater itself is smooth and blends in well with it's grey body and black strip. Because the power cable comes from under the base, it is easy to hide. The heating element doesn't span the whole front of the unit. It's in the center and takes up about a third of the front which is the purpose of the included picture, but it still looks great either way. Time for controls and performance. The buttons on the remote mimic the buttons on the unit. You get a power button which powers the unit on and off, an oscillate button which makes the unit turn and toggles out of temperature control mode, a timer button which lets you control the auto off timer (there's no auto on), a + button and a - button which controls the temperature down to a single degree, and a high or low button which controls the intensity of the heat. The unit has a red LED light that's always on when plugged in. I don't think the light is that bright so it's not distracting to me, but I'm posting this as a warning. Whenever you make a change, it beeps. The beep isn't that loud to me, but I'm expecting some people to find it annoying. When the heater is operating normally, it shows the current temperature of the room. I just so happen to have a thermometer kicking around and the readout from the heater has been close so far, usually off by one degree or so. It isn't silent while operating. There's a low hum that's barely noticeable when it's on low, but this increases a bit when it's on high. I don't find it distracting and consider the noise to be acceptable. The oscillate function has no added noise for me. I only get noise when it stops since you can hear the heater lock into place. For performance, the thing is stellar. It outputs serious heat on low and might turn a small room or a bedroom (I have it in the master bedroom) into a sauna on high. Temperature control works as expected with the heater shutting off once it hits whatever temp you set it to and turning itself on once going one degree below that temperature. It's a very impressive heater except for one problem. Automatic temperature control only works on the High setting. When you switch it to Low, it gets disabled. Since the heater on Low is more than enough for my room, I'd much rather use it on that intensity with automatic temperature control. This is a baffling design decision to me and almost docked a star for it, almost. Outside of that or if you don't find that a big deal, I highly-recommend it.

Easy assembly, warmed room in minutes

I received the Lasko oscillating heater an hour ago and it's already warmed up my entire office. My office is not very big and is always cold in the winter. I'm so happy with my purchase. I did set the temperature for 75, but I've noticed that it hasn't gotten up higher than 68 degrees in the last hour, but it's fine, since it's still very warm and it's right next to my desk. I can feel the warmth across the room, so if I had a guest stay, I think they would be very comfortable. Assembly was quick, but didn't come with AAA batteries for the remote control. You would think for the price, it would have come with batteries. Otherwise, that's my only complaint. I'm giving it a 4 star instead of 5, only because I haven't seen it rise above 68 for the set temp and when it gets too hot, it causes a circuit break in my home. I've had to stretch out the cord and keep it below 68 to make sure it doesn't cause an outage

Quiet and It Works

I have had smaller space heaters but this tower works quicker and heats more than the smaller one's did. It is not a substitute for heating but can help when in-between seasons. It brought my 7X9' bathroom up form 68 to 72 degrees in 5 minutes. I have not used it extensively but I like it so far. I find it best to use two hands when moving it. It is good for my 7X7.5' bathroom, and raising the temperature 4 degrees in my bedroom. The heater will warm me while sitting in my easy chair but not the whole living room. Of course never sleep with these devices on, use extension cords with them, or leave them on all day. Space heaters start approximately 30% of household fires.

Tower style electric heater that works well.

Purchased this for our patio that is brick on 3 sides with an electric screen that makes it closed on 4 sides. The heater works well, is quiet, and has features that work with a remote. It will add a about 10 to 15 degrees to the outside temperature. Outside is 40 the inside patio will be about 50-55 after running for some time We like it but if you are wanting a powerful outside heater this is probably not it.

Works great.

My bedroom 8s cold in the winter. This works great keeping my room warm. I like the temp.settings and it shuts off after it reaches a 3 degrees over set temp. Also has a timer. The only downfall was my electric bill went up $80. A month. Better and more cost effective compared to hearing my whole apt.

A great alternative when the fireplace is too much work

We bought ours as a return unit. It looked brand new and is easy to operate. We use it in the morning to keep us warm while reading the paper and on those nights when the fireplace doesn't quite radiate enough heat. We've had great experiences with Lasko products and keep a smaller unit in our travel trailer.

DON'T BUY IT. After less than two weeks broke down. The smell. And sloppy workmanship.

I just used it for less than two weeks and today, I smelled something burning. I noticed it had stopped working and the smell comes from it. It just stopped working. Something inside has burnt down and the room is full of the smell. It could have been worse and it could have burnt down, I think I have to be thankful it did not burn the house down. DON'T BUY IT. It is dangerous. ================================= THESE ARE MY PREVIOUS COMMENTS SINCE I BOUGHT, BUT NOW I JUST GIVE IT ONE STAR, THUMBS DOWN, AND CONSIDER IT DANGEROUS FOR YOUR HOME. I have just bought and installed it. Even just out of the box it smelled heavily. Like burnt plastic. And now that I have installed it and am running it for the first time the "burn plastic" smell is very strong. Not that I am allergic to it or too sensitive, but I had read other reviews about the smell and thought those people must be too sensitive but now I notice it is really something. I don't know if it will slowly vanish after a few months of use, but at the beginning like now, it is too much. Workmanship is really sloppy. I have seen items built in China with much better quality. it is very sloppy, the buttons don't match, the remote is big and ugly, not what I expected. Very "plasticy". I have connected it and am waiting to see if it warms up the room. If not, I will return it. I will let you know how it worked. === after one day: it warms up the room, works well. The smell after one day is gone or I have got used to it? The front screen has lots of static and has attracted dust in just one day. It is quiet, I am happy with the really low noise, I can watch my TV without bothering about the heater's noise. The remote is really bulky and not made well, sloppy, and the digits are not well lit, but it works. the design is good. With that pedestal and thin top and the nice monitor screen with the current temperature and control icons on it. It is just the build that is sloppy. Also I like that it that it beeps when I press the buttons on my remote so that I know the remote is connected and done the job.

Product misrepresentation

This product, made with an electrical configuration of 120 volts, is unfit for use in India where the electrical voltage is 220 to 240 volts. It is meant to be used in the USA or Canada only, where the homes run on 120 volts of electrical power. It does not make sense for this product to be advertised in Amazon India website as it will not work in Indian homes. It is misrepresentation and should not be marketed in India.

Effective single room heating. Saves money on heating bill.

There was a learning curve, and it will be different for everyone, but once I realized that if I set it for 67 it will keep my bedroom 70-71F (at bedside nightstand level) all night, I was pretty happy. These always have an internal thermometer, that controls the auto-shutoff/turn-on, and I suspect this one's is about ~12in off the floor. That would explain why I need to set it for 67 to give me 70-71 at ~24in. Something else that will influence the heater's internal temp gauge is the distance you place it from objects in front of it. Too far, and the heat won't bounce back to turn it off for quite a while, resulting in a room much warmer than you want. Too close and it will not only turn off too soon, but you may risk starting a fire. Very happy with it though. It should last ~ 10 years without a problem.
