What a headlamp should be
This headlamp offers enough high beam use and low end beam use for outdoor use and camping. There are other headlamps that give more lumens, but you really don't need more than a 100 at most for general use and 45 is fine because it conserves battery life to 4 times more than other headlamps in hours to use. Realistic headlamp use is 30 meters and under so you can work close and not be blinded with too much light. This is an excellent headlamp in conserving battery run time over others and giving usable light to work in. The headband is excellent and headlamp body is durable and tough. I rate this an A+ product for the money spent and buying another as backup because it is so inexpensive. I have had other headlamps costing 2 to 3 times as much and all they did was blind you past 80 to 100+ lumens and burn through batteries quickly. The FRED headlamp conserves battery life and gives you a working light to use in realistic camping or changing a car tire real world working area and like I said conserves battery life 4 times as longer as competition headlamps I have owned and just given them away.

Newer, grey colored version, is much brighter than the old yellow, but the on/off button quit.
After a few months the on/off push the button failed to function, and is sort of concave, refusing to return to original position. I've purchased at least a dozen of the Fred Headlamps for dog collar lights, replacing on occasion for too much moisture, though I now know better than to use them if rain or snow isforecastt

Lightweight and Bright
This is a very affordable headlamp, and puts out a lot of useable light despite the low cost. I appreciate that the red light comes on first (first a low lumen, then with a second click, something a little higher). This is a great way to avoid ruining your night vision. If you need white light, you have to hold down the button. The white light does not have a lot of throw, but the diffuser on the lamp allows it to illuminate a wide area. Running on 3 AAA batteries may be a drawback to some, but at least they are common and far more affordable than other battery options. Personally, I’d like something with a little more throw (beam distance), but again, for something under $20 and made in the USA, I don’t think you can beat it.

New and improved
I have the original Fred's with the round LED's. This new design has surface mount LED's. The light is much more flood and even. My gripe is they messed up the white programming. The old Fred was low red, high red, hold low white, double tap high white. Well the red is still the same, but white comes on high at first then dims as you hold it. I prefer it to start out in low white....

Starts at Full-Bright, then dims
I have a the previous generation fred light and prefer its dim red start and long press for dim white light, with an additional press for bright white if and when it's needed. It also has a very narrow and directional beam making it possible to converse face-to-face with the light aimed downward. This version has the same red start, but a long press immediately switches the white light on at the full-bright setting. Continuing to hold the button slowly ramps down the white light from 200 to 30 lumens, but with it's initial brightness and much wider light spread, anyone standing within 10 feet will immediately be in the spotlight.

Not Durable; Cheap Material; Shatters easily (but super design)
The material is inferior and shatters all too easily. I have burned through numerous lenses because they are not field durable. One dropped two feet from my doorknob to the floor and completely shattered. When packing the item for outdoor use or travel, cushion them to avoid any impact. Water: Rain will render the lens useless. You'll need to carry additional weatherising material for any outdoor use.

???? This little light of mine...
It’s a very decent headlamp for what you’re paying for it. It’s better than the one I used while deployed and I’m tempted to buy a spare for work. I know that it may have lower lumens than others, but it’s bright enough to see fine. Who knows, maybe it’s beneficial to some out there that don’t want to broadcast their location?

Not for everybody
Great light, 4 out of 5 starts for the price. Many comparable lights out there for cheaper. I didn’t mind paying more because the red led light is the default setting on this brand ( have to long push to get white light ) and the Multicam headband.

Quality product
I have used this light for hard use in the field, and it has surpassed all my expectations. It has survived all weather from snow, rain, mud, etc. Highly recommend this headlamp.

Red-mode by default
Particularly useful for astro or other activities where maintaining night adaption is important. Red modes are accessed and turned off by single clicks, white mode requires a long-press so it's not accidentally engaged. My only complaint is that it chews through batteries at a prodigious rate.
