Used to fix an occasionally running or leaking Sterling Windham 404515 toilet
I have a 16-year old Sterling Windham 404515 toilet that was intermittently running, leaking water from its tank into the bowl. When I asked a plumber at a big-box store what to do, he recommended using a Korky Toilet Repair Kit. That proved to be a hassle and waste of money as that kit's gasket wasn't a good fit for my Kohler toilet and water leaked from the tank onto the floor. So I ended up doing my own research and decided to replace the fill valve, flush valve, tank gasket, and flapper with genuine Kohler products. Changing the fill valve was easy. I covered that in another product review. Changing the flush valve and tank gasket is more challenging and time consuming as it requires removing the tank from the bowl. To do that turn off water to the tank, remove the tank lid, drain the water from the tank, remove the fill valve, unscrew three large (3/4" diameter flathead) bolts that connect the tank to the bowl, then remove the tank. Next remove the old tank gasket (lift it off the bolts) and flush valve (unscrew its lock nut). Next, insert the new overflow tube into tank at 10 o’clock position. Attach external seal on flush valve then hand tighten its lock nut. Affix new triangular tank gasket over lock nut. Insert tank mounting bolts w/ washers at the base of the tank. Place tank on bowl then tighten nuts on the locking bolts. Next, attach new flapper to the base of the flush valve and the lifting chain to the flush arm. Reattach fill valve, refill hose from valve restrictor to flush tube, supply hose to fill valve, then turn on water. Once tank is filled to its critical level (i.e., 1" below overflow tube), flush and ensure no leaks. If none, then replace toilet tank lid.

Missing Parts, had to use some old parts to finish repair
I thought this would come all packaged together as you normally see things at Home Depot, Lowes, etc but nope. One brown box with the parts thrown in loose. And to my dismay, the large nut that completes the connection to the bottom of the tank was missing. Seems whoever is putting these kits together doesn't understand what parts are needed. The other thing for me, which was not pictured was the 3 bolts, washers and nuts which connect the tank to the bowl. I kind of assumed they would be included even though they weren't pictured. Bad Assumption on my part. However, luckily the large nut from the old tank was still useable. Reading the other Reviews, seems other parts have been missing for others. Again, whoever is putting these kits together needs to pay more attention.

good quality materials but design is not as good as the original for the seal.
All the parts except for the seal are great. The seal has some tubes that come up through the tank that are very long and unless you use the Kohler bolts that have the plastic head and neck on them it is very difficult to get it to seal. Make sure you have the wrench for the four-inch nut before you start. On 2 of the 3 toilets I did, I used the Keeney brass bolts with the set of washers and cut the tubes off almost flush with the bottom of the tank. That worked well.

PARTS KITS FOR OLDER MODEL TOLIET
Product was as advertised, arrived promptly and easy to install.

The item is not what is shown in the picture.
My original part is what is shown in the picture. What is provided is not, but it deos work when installed. However, the opening is not slanted like the original part (what is shown in the picture) and leaves a bit more water in the tank after flushing.

Does not look like picture
The triangle tank gasket does not look like the one in the picture, but like several others found on Amazon. It has only narrow rubber lines linking the outer parts with the inner gasket. There are also no bolts with this kit, which I didn't notice before purchasing this kit. So the kit is more expensive, is misrepresented and doesn't have the bolts, but it did work after purchasing bolts.

No instructions!!
Two things, 1. the large nut that holds the flush valve to the tank MUST be tighter than you think is possible in order to seal water tight. 2. As noted by others there are NO bolts included, and NO instructions of any kind. I assume they intend these "kits" for plumbers who put them in daily. Also the flush valve must line up exactly with the pull chain or the flapper valve won't seat. The only picture shown is misleading, it won't sit straight front to back. Other than that it functions. Good Luck.

Recommended flush valve for Sterling Toilet
I looked up the part for my sterling toilet and this was it. They included the washer, gasket, nut, and flush valve with flapper. The part looked identical to the part replaced, but there were some inscribed model number of 15312M on my old part which I can't find anything online for that, so 85073 is probably the best match. The only ding with Amazon is that the picture isn't exactly what i got. The flapper is red and the gasket is not a true triangle shape but more like the other gaskets kohler uses out there now. The flapper is an identical match to the old one. The only nag with that is the part number for the flapper 5966749 so you would need to look for an equivalent. it's been a week and no leaks whatsoever. I did have to use my old bolts for this, but I used all parts that were included.
