Great Quality

Advice on Installation.

We spotted the Mistos version of this line at Home Depot. We haven't gone back to compare what the differences are, if any, but it is overall want we wanted. Some items, like this toilet paper holder is the same price but the towel rods - and depending on what finish you purchase - might be as much as 1/3rd the price at Orange or Blue. After reading all the reviews on Amazon, I knew what I was in store for in terms of installation. I even got the side with the swinging arm flush. Some advice: - FYI - Use the hex key provided to remove the base plate from the main part of the holder. The underside of the holder has a small hole where you insert the hex key. - I tried offsetting the distance between the holes on the template by 1mm, making it a bit closer. When I installed the second one I purchased, I used the provided template and it works perfectly. You just need to install methodically, measuring and adjusting one screw at a time. - Mark your holes based on the template, making sure that everything is level. If you feel that other reviewers are correct about the template, then move in 1mm or out 1mm - depends on whose advice you believe. - Use drill holes for screw guides for more precise placement and avoid splitting/cracking the wall. - Screw 1. Install the underlying plate of the swing arm side (left side). Mark both holes in this plate but, at this time, screw in the top screw only. - Screw 2. Install the underlying plate of the catch side (right side). Unlike above, mark only the top hole and screw in the top screw. You'll notice that the top hole is horizontally wider. This allows you to make small adjustments left and right. - Fit both the sides on and make sure that the bases are positioned properly so that the that the lever meets the catch. Because the base of the catch side can be adjusted left and right slightly, you can loosen the screw slightly, adjust, then tighten. - After you've positioned both sides to your satisfaction, mark the bottom holes, drill your guide and screw in the bottom screws. You might be all set at this point but, as others have pointed out, the left arm will not be flush with the wall. If this bothers you, as it did me, this is what you can do: - Remove the left side of the holder, leaving the base attached. Take a pencil and draw around the base plate to mark its exact position. Remove the base plate. - Using a 1 5/8 inch Forstner bit, drill a 1/8 inch recess (you can actually get away with less (about 2/3rd of the thickness of the plate) into the wall where the base plate can fit into. NOTE: This is an easier step if you're installing on the side of a vanity and drilling into wood. However, I also tried doing this on drywall and a Forstner bit can tear apart the wall if you go too fast. When I did it, the pivot was creating a messy hole in the center of the recess I was creating... so I stopped. I then proceeded to carve a recess using a Dremel. JUST BE VERY CAUTIOUS, otherwise you'll be doing some patchwork. I had to compound and paint were the recess shows underneath the installation. - Screw the base plate back into place and install the left side. At this point, everything should be flush. Mine sticks a little bit, since recessing it offsets the alignment slightly. This doesn't matter to me, since it's not a daily thing to replace the toilet paper roll (right?). Once the paper is on, who is going to notice? Hope that helps folks. Giving it 4 starts just for the extra effort to get it flush.

Works fine, but big and hard to install just right

Got this because it matched the set already in our bathroom, but it's so big it looks more like a hand towel bar. Also, it has to be installed precisely if you want the mechanism to work without there being an unsightly gap. I had to shift the thing over and redo when my drill caught the edge of a stud, and it's still not perfect since I was so nervous that I'd install too close together and not be able to shut the thing. It was rough getting the swivel to work, too--i was so confused and thought I had the wrong parts, but turns out someone had cranked down on the thing so hard it wasn't turning. I had to use my drill and jerry-rig a stabilization mechanism to loosen it up. But is definitely good quality.

No more spring-loaded bars

Some reviews made this seem really hard to install. I thought it was really easy. The box comes with lots of screws and anchors for ceramic tile or drywall installations. The right mounting bracket has a slot for one screw to be mounted such that it can rotate off vertical. I can't see how people have a problem mounting, if they tape the template to the wall and mark the screw holes before drilling. At first, I couldn't figure out the mechanism, and in fact thought it was defective - so I installed the first one to a board to see how it worked. It seems to have to be mounted to rotate. DO NOT MIX up the placement of the left and right mounting brackets - since they have different functions Once mounted, the left side rotates up a little more than 45* and the paper roll slides right on. There is plenty of room for Costco tp- a new roll isn't impeded by the wall. Pretty cool design. If anything, I wish it was at least an inch, and maybe two inches narrower - that's why I gave it 4 stars. There's a lot of play for the roll to move from from side to side. But all in all, it matches the other Alteo towel bars and takes all of 1. 5 seconds to change the tp roll. Very cool innovation. Very well made, good quality and pretty ORB finish.

Classy look, innovative design

I saw this hardware set in someone else’s bathroom, and fell in love. I never would have bought it if I hadn’t seen it in person, but I am so glad I did. Bought the matching hand towel bar, too. I love how sleek the design is. I think it would look great with any chrome faucet because it has both square and round parts of the design. The bar lifts/pivots up for toilet paper replacement, and you don’t have to deal with any of those spring-type removable bar inserts. Just lift up, replace roll, and put bar back down.

Item Received Was Defective

Great product even though it was defective. Installed lots of these and this is the first bad one that I have received. Other then that it has a beautiful finish and is well built. Amazon was great to refund the item as always.

This fits my aesthetic

I like that that this is a hinged toilet paper holder so you don't have to remove the center. The individual parts are quite hefty out of the box so you are paying for quality parts. I think Kohler has provided very helpful guides and instructions to make it an easy installation. That is, if you read them and make use of it. If you toss everything to the side and look at them if you "need to" like we did the first time (we put them in all our bathrooms now), let's just say you will be giving unnecessary time to installing something.

Very high quality

When mounted, this holder looks and feels very substantial. It has a delicate soft curve look but is very sturdy with a high quality finish. Happy with purchase.
