It's been a month since the fan was installed on my 12' x 20' screened porch. I've been disappointed with the fan's cooling performance, even at maximum speed. However, I've concluded that the fan is not to blame; my expectation was too high. So I retain the five-star rating because of the fan's apparent quality, quiet operation, and no wobble. At the gabled porch ceiling's apex where the fan is mounted, the ceiling is 11 feet above the floor. A separately purchased two-foot downrod positions the fan blades nine feet above the floor. I find that, at maximum fan speed, I can feel significant air flow only below the fan within a circular area with about a seven-foot diameter. I don't doubt this fan's documented relatively-high CFM airflow. It's just that this airflow can't provide the kind of cooling that one could achieve with a modestly sized oscillating fan on a stand, which produces high-speed air flow. So, if one is looking for something that can really blunt the heat on a hot and humid day, he will need to get a nice-sized oscillating fan on a stand. The ceiling fan does circulate the air and likely keeps the temperature down some, mostly up near the ceiling. And if you can arrange to sit below the fan, somewhere within a circle with about a seven-foot diameter, the ceiling fan will blow some air directly on you. And, the fan looks good and contributes to a pleasant ambiance on the porch. I discovered something while installing the fan blades that is important to know (there is no mention of blade-mounting detail in the instruction manual ). One side of each blade has a centered ridge that runs along the blade's long axis. The other (darker) side of the blade is completely flat, and I believe the flat side should be facing the floor, as shown in the image on Amazon's web page. However, the picture of the fan on the cover of Kichler's instruction manual shows the ridged sides of the blades facing the floor. On the ridged side of each blade, the three 5/16" mounting holes have a shallow 5/8" diameter countersink. On the flat side of each blade there is no countersink for the holes. So, if the blade is mounted with the ridged side toward the ceiling, the countersink allows the mounting screw to be driven down about 1/16" deeper into the mounting-bracket hole. This extra purchase could be important, because the mounting screw is very short. I had installed three of the five blades with the ridged sides toward the floor (as shown in the instruction manual's cover picture), and I was concerned about the relatively small number of turns required to tighten the screws. Then I realized that more turning (i.e., more purchase) could be gotten by flipping the blades over so that the flat sides faced the floor and the screws could be driven into the countersinked holes on the ridged sides. After talking to Kichler customer service people, it seemed like they think the blades could be installed either way, so that you could have two different appearance options (the ridged blade side is significantly lighter in color, and the flat blade side is a better match for the color of the fan motor and downrod). However, I believe that these particular fan blades should be installed only one way: with the darker flat sides down. There are some other imperfections in the instruction manual, but none of them hindered the installation significantly. I have now operated the fan for about a month, and I have nothing but praise for it. There is no wobble, and the only sound is from the moving air. The fan blades are nine feet from the porch floor, so the very-short pull chain that comes attached had to be enhanced with an extension. On our porch, the power to the fan goes through a simple wall switch, which is used to turn the fan on and off. The fan's pull chain is occasionally used to change the fan speed.
