Time-honored traditions for the modern era
Life is perfect. Coffee tastes better in this Kate Spade Parker Place cup, the birds sing sweeter, and the sky is bluer. On reading some of the other reviews on the other place setting listings from Kate Spade, I think people have forgotten (or don't know) that single place settings were a very common gift for weddings where the couples would register a china pattern before their wedding, in the hope that a kind guest would gift them with a part of the set chosen together just for them to start their new life. Don't expect a full family size setting for this price. Lenox (founded in 1889) and Kate Spade have partnered to offer this gorgeous modern classic in Parker Place. What you're getting for the price is a timeless tradition in high quality china. This is bone china. This is accented with genuine platinum. However, don't feel you have to be on your way down the aisle either to indulge in this dinnerware. I have a family with husband and kids, but I chose this single setting just for me (because I don't want to afford multiple place settings). I work from home and this makes solo meals an event that I look forward to. I used to have an office offsite and I purchased some pretty gold accented pieces from Z Gallerie (not genuine gold, and not fine china) for my assistant and I to eat from. It made the working lunch like a bourgeois escape. Now that I'm flying solo, this is very satisfying upgrade. In our current culture, a single place setting would also make a statement as a newly-divorced gift (because I understand people celebrate that too). This comes with plates only, and a cup. No bowls. Included are the dinner, salad, and bread and butter plates, and the cup and saucer. The cup holds exactly 1 cup, or 8 fluid ounces. I'm an Asian wet-noodle eating fiend so the soup/cereal bowl is a must for me to add. This set is not ideal if you plan on putting it in the microwave due to the platinum. Neither is it oven safe. It is however dishwasher safe, but I'll be hand washing these precious pieces. The color and pattern of the Parker Place setting is elegant and whimsical. I prefer Kate Spade over most other masstige brands like Michael Kors or Coach. The quality seems higher and the esthetic is playful and clean, yet upscale; a little more unpredictable which delights my senses. The quietly cheerful robin's egg blue in these pieces is soft and stately, recalling the class of Wedgwood, Asian celadon, and other vintage porcelain, then contrasted with strikingly modern black lines. I don't believe that all Kate Spade place settings are bone china or have precious metal accents, thus the price difference between the collections. I really think Parker Place puts Kate Spade beyond masstige and into the premium luxury space, especially because of the partnership with Lenox. Or, perhaps Lenox stepped down to broaden its market to appeal to millenials. A card is included in the box (which is a fun meadow green with gold embossing) that offers registration for 50% on breakage replacement, and that's if 'you' break it. I imagine that breakages in shipping would be completely covered either by the vendor or freight company. Mine arrived perfectly intact, with foam sheeting between each piece inside the box. Parker Place makes me really happy. This particular pattern will make an ideal gift for someone who appreciates well balanced, contemporary design, and who won't take the quality of this collection for granted. ** UPDATE: I ended up ordering the soup/cereal bowl to add. It's a perfect size holding two full cups (16 oz) with a little headspace leftover. It's just as beautiful with the same authenticity markings on the bottom. However it didn't arrive in a Kate Spade box or have a breakage replacement card with it. I called the Kate Spade company via the phone number on their website, and they assured me that Amazon sells authentic Kate Spade and that this piece would also be covered. Additionally these are seasonal designs, so get the set and complementing items while you can!

Another quality Kate Spade New York Set from Lenox - Highly recommended!
For me, I'm very selective when it comes to dishes, may it be for myself or the wife or when it comes to my food photography. But I'm also a believer in quality and while Kate Spade New York is an American luxury fashion design house that has been around since 1993 that is known for their bags, clothing, jewelry, accessories (which the men's side Jack Spade catered to men). But when it came to the dishes, the sets are from Lenox which has been around since 1889 and it's part of American tradition from the highest level of government and past collections are featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Smithsonian Institution. So, for Kate Spade New York to be sold by Lenox, that's pretty awesome. And the Parker Place 5-piece set is beautiful, elegant and yes, it's quite awesome. The set is white bone China, dishwasher safe and chip resistant and made in the USA. It comes with a 10.75" dinner plate, 8" salad plate, 6.25" bread plate, 7 oz. cup and a 5.5 saucer program. Also, it comes with a save 50% on replacement, breakage replacement program. While I rarely deviate from plain white dishes, the Parker Place just caught my attention with the black concentric rings. All dishes are white but the dinner plate has thin black rings towards the edge, the salad plate has four slightly thicker black rings, the bread plate with a solid black and one thick black ring around and the saucer with a lone black ring. These dishes are gorgeous and the cup matches the set as well. The Parker Place Collection is absolutely elegant and just worth owning. We give this Kate Spade New York Parker Collection 5-piece...five stars!

A really beautiful bowl...but I'd never spend this much on one dish unless it was for a wedding gift
I love dishes, and I love The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying-Up, which forces me into a tough situation when offered a beautiful dish...that I really do not need. As you can see, my dish addiction beat my attempt to be more minimalist restraint. This pretty white and turquoise Lenox bowl is made in the USA, which I love. It comes in a nice bright fluorescent box with lots of protective bubble wrap and a note card that explains the proper care as well as some information about designer Kate Spade, which...I confess uncomfortably...seems to say that she's alive, "...today she brings her signature style..." when she's no longer with us. But that's another story. It currently rests prettily on my kitchen counter, filled with fruit (which can't compare to the beauty of the bowl). I'm not sure what else I would use it for though because it's smallish for batter mixing and salad serving. In summary, as part of a set of expensive dishes, I could see myself purchasing this item for a wedding gift, but as a stand alone item...not so much. It looks, feels and acts like the high quality item that it obviously is, but is beyond my normal purchase price point.

Just the palest blue for an accent....hard to match, I think
It's hard to get a proper perspective of this pattern from the pictures. And I find myself "missing" the pale blue color on the dinner plate rim. For some reason, I feel the rim should repeat the pale blue of the cup and the smallest plate, but it does not. Just my personal take on the style, but since the picture is somewhat lacking, you might imagine the blue rim is there. Also be aware that the pale blue is not pearlized. And the pale blue is not a cool blue, there is a hint of aqua in it's subtle breath of color. If you feel the need to bring in more of that particular pale blue color, beware it will be a frustrating task. If you are looking for a modern, striking look, with just a bare hint of color, this might be just what you are looking for. Regarding Lenox china in general, I highly recommend it. It's sturdy, resists chips and resists knife cuts, too.
