Most magnificent grill I've ever cooked on!
I've bought overly large propane grills (non-Weber) in the past thinking it was such a "good deal" when they weren't Weber grills and just too big other than for large parties. Here's the thing, if you like to smoke OR grill x2-x3 a week with minimal cleaning and the biggest draw for me was the temperature control w/ the LEAST AMOUNT OF FUEL being used, ceramic type of charcoal grilling is the way to go: 1. It's better than propane. Cooking w/ charcoal gives you that char-taste that you CAN NOT get from propane unless you buy special grilling meat injector fluid that mimics that charcoal taste 2. Excellent temperature control. It's a pain in the ass to do this w/ a metal small charcoal grill (which I'd still take over a propane grill, btw). 3. FUEL CONSUMPTION (this is actually the #1 REASON WHY I bought this type of grill). The more you grill, the more you'll save in fuel costs over time. I have a metal weber kettle grill (18") and it uses at minimum x2-x3 times more fuel (due to the heat dissipating via the metal). The ceramic is #1 in this area in conserving your fuel and heat. Go to BJ's or Costco and BUY the LUMP CHARCOAL, NOT the BRIQUETTES (that's for the metal charcoal grills) from there . 4. Convenience of cooking outside vs inside for certain foods. To me, cooking pizza (oven needs to get to 500 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, which usually takes 1/2 hr or more minimum if you use a pizza stone). IF you use a GrillBlazer Grill SV Gun (which I bought, but it's a tad expensive, so try to get something similar if you want to save time) you'll save yourself like 15-20 minutes for the coals to get hot enough if you use a grill gun vs a charcoal chimney starter (which is fine too if you don't have the $). Also, it's heats up way hotter and quicker in my opinion (if you use a grill gun) than a conventional oven in your house. PLUS you'll more than likely NOT HAVE a FALSE ALARMS from the fire alarms in your house once the temperatures get hot enough and create that smoke. 5. Easy clean up. Open the bottom and use the tool they provide you to scrap the ashes out. Done within 30-60 seconds. That's it! I've bought 2 of these since I fell in love with this grill so much. I understand if you want to save money and look at cheap chinese brands here on Amazon or elsewhere, but think twice. If you're spending $100+ on something you'll think you'll be using for a long time: (1) Are you confident it behaves in the same way that a Green Egg or a Kamado Joe would? (2) if the ceramic CRACKS, will the company cover the warranty on it? It's totally up to whatever your budget allows. FYI, if choose the more expensive shipping option if you buy this, because #1, I used the Amazon Prime Free Shipping method and the grill came CRACKED on the inside and outside (it was a small crack, but it's ENOUGH to cause problems when cooking). Your grill should have NO CRACKS, contact Kamado Joe immediately and take pics with your phone and ask them if the crack is manageable or should you send it back. And god forbid it's cracked and you have to send it back, it's going to be a pain in the ass. SAVE THE GREEN SHIPPING STRAPS, DO NOT THROW THEM OUT UNTIL YOU'VE INSPECTED THE GRILL FOR CRACKS. To avoid this problem, I choose Amazon's option for "Inside Entryway" SCHEDULED SHIPPING (just pay the $10 more), it's worth it and you'll save yourself A LOT of headache. I wish I did it the 1st time. There will be 2 guys to move your grill to wherever you want it.

Arrived Damaged But Works Well
The Kamado Joe Jr arrived cracked but it still functionally works. My understanding is that cracks in kamado eggs can be fixed with refractory cement so I'll give that a try. For the first cook I used a small amount of lump coal (1 mini charcoal chimney worth) and with that small fire the unit held 300 F for several hours, much longer than my Weber charcoal kettle grill. Adding more coal will get you higher temps. With that I slow cooked 2 tri-tips for about 30 mins and then seared them on my gas grill's searing station to finish them off - terrific results. With the Jr space is limited on the small grill but 2 tri-tips had plenty of room. I live alone and have other larger grills for parties but the Jr would probably be tricky to do a variety of outdoor cooks for a family of 4. Burgers sure but little room for meat & veggies concurrently. 10-inch griddle fits well for cooking breakfast and fry cooks. Stars added for its' compact size on my limited size patio and for how well it held temperature. Star deducted for arriving damaged (unit arrived upside down in the box which was open at one end so I inspected for damage right away).

Looks good
I received mine a couple of days ago. I haven't yet tried it. I'll come back and update the review later. For now, I would like to highlight two facts 1) I know a lot of people have received broken / cracked grill. Packaging seems to have held up during shipping 2) I have attached two pictures of what comes in the box - One is the grill next to the box it came in (I took some Styrofoam off in this picture) - The other is the little boxes that come. The top vent, fire grate, heat deflector, steel rack are all required for basic functioning of the grill. The only "optional" addons that come are really the "ash tool" and "grill gripper"

Outdoor pizza oven
I’ve been looking at these egg type grills for sometime. So I bought the Kamado Joe Junior and it will make pizza! This grill is very easy to control the heat once you get used to it. I would definitely recommend this to anyone or any kind of outdoor cooking.

So far, so GOOD.
This is exactly as advertised. I’m just beginning to use its features but I can tell the quality is baked in.

Dull red color
Was a disappointment definitely, I was expecting a bright red but instead pale in comparison to all the videos and pictures I've seen. Sure it will be a great grill but have to say color is not pretty.

Works well
First kamodo and I love it. So much nicer than regular bbq like a Weber. I never was much for the big grills so the small size is ideal for me. Can do everything for my small family I need to do. It does require an elevated stand of some sort to be at a normal grill height. I opted for a large chunk of wood instead of building a table and so far I’m liking that as well.

Take your time, learn to use it.
Takes a bit of learning to use. I’ve had two failed attempts at pizza; lovely top, lovely flavour, but burnt base. Second one was better than the first, so hopefully third time lucky. Have cooked a rib of beef, a little overdone so again I’ll learn from that. A couple of truly excellent sirloin steaks ... mmm and I’ve just put a whole duck on to smoke/slow roast. There’s a lot of recipe/cooking videos on YouTube, but most of them American where the cuts of meat are different to here in ????????. Nonetheless they give some good ideas/insights. Definitely worth investing in a meat thermometer to check internal heat of the joint when slow cooking. I’m looking forward to lots of meals cooked on it this summer.

If you want a new BBQ go Kamado Joe
These are great. I'm completely bowled over by the quality of this item. With these grills you can do everything. Oven roast, slow cook, grill, sear, smoke -hot and cold and probably more. Item is ready to use out off the box. Once it's fired up it will retain heat for hours. Other makes are available and I haven't tried any of those but I can recommend Kamado Joe.

Oozes quality.
Delivered this morning and the packaging was excellent , well protected and sturdy. There was very little assembly needed and was up and ready to go within 5 minutes. This is a sturdy and well made grill complete with all the accessories and just by looking at it and feeling the weight you can tell it should last for years. I can't fault it. Plenty big enough I would say for a family of 3 or 4 and all in all very pleased with my purchase.

Love it
What a piece of kit bought in the black Friday deals at a great price. Works like an oven, easy to regulate the temperature and very sturdy. Just need better weather to give it more use ????

Frame was scuffed and scratched!
It's a good item, however, the frame around the Joe jr was scuffed and scratched in places despite the fact that it had been covered in plastic. I can only imagine it was done in the factory before having the tape applied. It's a bit annoying given the price. If I'd paid £150, I might be more inclined to accept this level of quality. I had expected it to at least be right out of the box.
