Edit: Rust free after 3 years
Edit 4-4-2019: Hung this in my outdoor shower, where its done duty for 3 years. Florida rain, humidity, soap residue, etc have had no effect on the finish. This is the real deal. Updating to 4 starts from 3. Original review: Supposed to be stainless steel, and it might be, but if so its not high grade stainless. There's several kinds of stainless steel, and as a layperson the easiest way to tell if something is stainless is to put a magnet on it. It shouldn't stick to stainless. It sticks to this basket (see picture). It doesn't grab like it would on iron, but it still sticks, and considering how little metal there is in this basket, I'd expect it not to hold its own weight, even if it was lower grade stainless. The previous reviews about the design not being conducive to good suction cup operation are correct. There are metal squares that hold the 3 suction cups, and the two on the outside corners are welded onto the inside of the wires of the basket. The middle one is welded on the outside of the wires. That puts the basket under continual tension, pulling out on the two outer cups. For my use, the suction cups were removed because I was screwing it to the wall of my outdoor shower. So the only feature I really care about is the fact that it is truly going to be rust free - and the magnet stuck to the side of it is not giving me a lot of confidence. I'll hope for the best and update as it progresses.

Mostly, a Fine Product
First the bad news: the suction cups are, of course, cheap, ineffective and useless. I don't know why this is news to anyone---did you actually think a small shallow suction cup would stay stuck on a damp shower wall, indefinitely? Because even if it works, if it's just for a week or two, that's hardly good enough--no one wants their soap or small shampoo bottle randomly crashing to the floor, right? This is a case of unrealistic expectations. And while InterDesign has to know, deep down, that these cups are worthless, it takes a certain surprising gullibility on the part of the consumer to think these little flat rubber cups---more like plates---would consistently work. But the soap dish is a good, well-made product, at an excellent price. I'm firmly against advertising or selling something that plainly doesn't do what it's supposed to—I would've preferred to give 3.5 stars. InterDesign should stop pushing the suction cups, and just sell this nice little stainless steel soap basket. It holds your soap, allows it to drain, and quickly dry off all over, with a minimum of soap lost by merely turning to wet mush. It can sit smartly on your shower shelf, where you occasionally just pick it up and wipe the shelf clean. Or if you're handy and have the right tile drill bit (important!) you can screw it directly to your shower wall, as I did with their larger shower basket---because it was obvious: 5, 10 or 20 suction cups were never going to support the weight of a couple of today's large bottles of shampoo, conditioner and body wash.

Great dish, needs suction cup upgrade.
I love this dish, but the suctions cups are poor. I loved it enough to upgrade it. I installed larger, inexpensive suction cups. These have greater depth than the original cups so I to also had to put on the wall a clear, 1/8" thick, self-adhesive bumper for the support leg underneath to keep the dish level. Works well now but most may not be willing to go this far. It is nice enough that Interdesign should upgrade the suction cups and should lengthen the support leg accordingly. Instead, it appears that this item is being discontinued.

Weak suction cups, otherwise decent.
We have a shower that's one of those fiberglass insert dealy-hoos. Not what I would have chosen when remodeling but hey, it wasn't my house then, so I wanted a real soap dish to keep the soap from sliding off the stupid little shelf. Also I wanted one that drains well so that the soap wouldn't sit there and liquify in water, which drives me nuts and I believe halves the life of a bar. The actual soap dish is fine; should be sturdy and last quite a while even with water exposure. However, the suction cups seem to be pretty bad. I don't really like how they're attached, since they're pretty loose, but the real problem came because they are cheap plastic, and Amazon's shipping area shrink wrapped the whole thing to another item I ordered. Unfortunately, the heat from the shrink gun warped the cups. So this is partly a problem with the warehouse people not considering this possibility, and partly low quality parts. I got it stuck on the wall with some oil on the cups, but I don't know if it will stay long term. The good news is I should be able to replace them pretty easily if I need to. Just annoying to have it arrived damaged.

Perfect for my needs
Got this in the mail today, I plan to put in my barn's Wash Rack for washing the horses. I have no use for the suction cups since it will be screwed into wood, but since I noticed some reviews mentioning the suction cups, I will add that they do look a bit flimsy personally. There are 3 suction cups total one is small (located to the right of the picture) and 2 are large (located at left and bottom n middle). personally I really like this basket, so if the suction cups don't work well enough I would just buy some better ones for it. in my head I was expecting The basket to stick out a little farther from the wall, cuz my sponge I want to fit in it doesn't fit as nice as I like.... or I need a smaller sponge.... Its plenty big for the shampoo bottle I'm putting in it. The hooks are really nice to hang my horses bucket cleaning brush and wash mit. When I put it up I'll take a picture.

Much better than anticipated, I give this top grades!
I read the reviews and decided to hive this s try. Needed A place to store that other bar of soap (the hideously expensive one I don't use daily) and my shaving creme and razor. This hold that plus A washcloth and a couple of small shower gel bottles quite nicely. To install I simply see rubbing alcohol and a paper towel to clean the entire area where I intended to place it. Chose my exact location and leaned into it for 45 seconds and let it sit overnight before loading it up. I give it an A for sturdiness, ease of installation and value for the money. An A+ for looks and useful design. Much better than I had anticipated!
