They reduce noise levels quite a bit
They're typical foam plugs. They reduce noise levels quite a bit. However, wearing them for prolonged periods make my ears sore a bit.

Disclaimer: First I am biased towards anything from Howard Leight relating to hearing protection. I've compared the insides of their more expensive headsets to the insides of competing brands and the HL are just better constructed. I also own several pairs of their more expensive electronic earmuffs. However, it should be noted that that most small inexpensive ear plugs provide better hearing protection than the more expensive headsets. The more expensive headsets have an advantage when it comes to hearing an instructor at the range over filtered or reduced background noise. But the little inexpensive earplugs like these usually have higher Noise Reduction Ratings (NRR) and even a numeric difference of one is a big difference when it comes to protecting your hearing. So a NRR rating of 33 is far better than a NRR of 32, as opposed to just a little bit better. With that said, I use these WITH the electronic headsets at the gun range. If I were just using one, I would pick these over the electronic set, and I would pick these over the Howard Leight Quiet Band with a more rigid neck band. But this is just personal preference at the range. The flexible neck band just disappears and I don't think about it at the range, so I'm not distracted by it. if I were at an airport job, I might chose the HL Quiet Bands assuming the NRR was the same-easier on/off and less likely to lose.

See photo. Has strings. Works.
This is my first night with them. I was surprised they have cords connecting them. I have smaller ears so I pinch them and squeeze them in. Maybe I won’t lose them now. Update These are a little too big for me. I do like having the cords to keep them together. I ended up buying the little purple ones which dont block as much snoring sound but I cant feel them when i sleep. Update #2 The little purple ones don’t block enough noise. I have been back to using these orange earplugs because they block more noise, even if they hurt a tiny bit initially. I need them and can’t sleep in bed with a snorer with out them. I also use an app on my phone for white noise and put it by my head which prevents feeling the vibration as much.

worked great on airline trips
I hate the noise of traveling on airlines. Between the noise of the jet engines, the babies crying, and the people talking on their cell phones as if no one else were around them, I go crazy. So I have always used earplugs and noise canceling earphones. I decided to try these as they were rated higher in decibel blocking ability than those I am used to using as well as them being held together with the line (I am always dropping earplugs and it is difficult to find them on a plane flight). They work GREAT, blocking out a significant amount of the noise and hung around my neck when not in use.

A host of uses
Although these earplugs are designed for noisy industrial environments such as machine shops, factory floors, and airports, I find them quite useful while riding my motorcycle. I also use them in my office! I work in an "open environment", and I find it hard to concentrate while other people are audible. Some of my colleagues use noise-cancelling headphones, but earplugs are cheaper and more effective. Also, if you've ever been bothered by noise while flying, a combination of these earplugs *and* Bose noise-cancelling earphones is perfect.

Continuing to use a proven product
I used these when I worked in a noisy industrial enviorment and they worked great. They are soft enough to roll, but will expand to fill the ear canal. That is the reason I bought these to use around the house when mowing, etc. I will also use them under hearing protection muffs as an additonal protector while shooting.

Work fine with artillery
Used these for civil war reenactments on the artillery line with decibels of 120-125. These worked well. And it they work well for a canon they will work well for anything I can think

Great quality
A little bit larger than what I was using previously but they work great. I use them all the time when mowing the lawn. Cheap insurance to protect your hearing
