Good for general cleaning, not stains

I am somewhat obsessive of keeping our carpets clean. We don’t wear shoes in the house, don’t eat on the carpet, I vacuum couple times a week etc. However, our kids’ playroom has white carpet (don’t ask…) and of course life and accidents happen…dropped markers, cat vomit, slime (what idiot invented slime for kids…) and so on. I regularly try to remove marks by hand with a spot stain remover. It helps, but often there is still a discolored spot on the carpet. Decided to order this vacuum and see what it could do. And here are my two main takeaways: 1) I need a new regular vacuum. I was DISGUSTED by how black the dirty water was and the amount of gunk and hairballs and fuzz this shampoo vacuum picked up. After leaving this review I’m going to buy a new vacuum, because apparently the one I’ve been using is not doing it’s job. So yes, this vacuum does a good OVERALL, general cleaning job. The white carpet looks brighter and better. But…. 2) Unfortunately, this vacuum didn’t do anything for the marked/stained spots in the carpet. They look the exact same as they did before. Bummer. Maybe if I had used a different type of shampoo? Oxiclean maybe? Or maybe the stains are just there to stay. I tried using this on the stairs and it was a pain and a half. Very awkward and cumbersome. But…I tried. As for cleaning out the vacuum when you’re done-yes, it takes a few minutes to take apart and clean everything out. But totally worth it. Overall, definitely recommend this vacuum. Great value for the money.

Works, but a very quirky machine.

It works well for cleaning carpets, and it does an efficient job. There is a steep learning curve for learning how to use it effectively, I.e., you need to learn which sounds indicate that you either A, have no water in the tank or B have a full dirty water tank. It should also be said that while the suction is strong, you need to GO SLOW without holding the trigger, to pick up the water you just released with the trigger. I used it on a relatively new rug and it took me 3-4 swipes to get back to clear water (of which I am not sure if that's a problem with my rug or a problem with the machine). Overall, it does a better job than a vacuum, quickly and efficiently, after you learn what you're dealing with. Setup and putting it away is very simple - the same can be said for any type of repairs. The directions say to vacuum first, and that is pretty important, because the brush will pick up and clump any hairs (you will have to remove those by hand, there's no way around it). Maintenance probably involves unscrewing 5 screws near the brush and scraping the occasional gunk out with your hands. If you prefer something that gets the job done, isn't very complex, and is easy to maintain, then this is the product for you. It might require a bit more elbow grease than something worth $400, but if you live in an apartment, it gets the job done. And if you're like me and sleep on a rug, it does take alternative, more organic solutions (and even just plain water), and still does a pretty decent job. It gets 4 stars simply because the dirty water tank does not take nearly as much water as it looks like it does. AND that's something you should look for when using this machine. The dirty water bucket max limit is about 1/3RD of the container. That doesn't really harm performance but it might throw you off if you didn't know that (because the machine will just stop spitting out and sucking in water).

Works Great, But Time Will Tell....

I have used this carpet cleaner three times now, and it works as good as my old Hoover Steam Rug Vac (not sure why they called it a "steam vac" as there was NO steam at all). Filling the solution container is a breeze and emptying the dirty water is quick and easy. Cord is of sufficient length and has a three-prong plug. TIME WILL TELL: Like MANY and VAST MAJORITY of products that are not made in the USA, they fall apart after months or even a couple of years. Rating a brand-new product is easy as it is in the best shape of its lifecycle, but let's see if this thing works in five or six years from now. I still have a US-made Hamilton-Beech hand mixer from the 60s that continues to work well. A Proctor-Silex coffee percolator from the early 70s that works great. All my old US/German-made products still operating as they did when I bought it. I am soooooooo sick of buying products that do not last. So again, ask me in a few years after I've used this thing several dozen times and how I would rate it. Please People: Buy the best quality products ONCE!!!

It works!!

Bought this shampooer a couple days ago and used it for an area rug in the living room and the carpet in my bedroom. I have to say this little machine works. The end result was very pleasing. I gave it four stars because of the slight leaking of the water when the machine is stopped. Not sure why but I bought the mat so used it for that purpose as I had read the reviews of some consumers. The machine does spit out dirt balls now and then but I guess it's the amount of dirt in the rug or carpet. Be prepared to change the clean water tank a few times based on the saturation. Also to empty the dirty water tank. I used warm water without the solution inside but just mist sprayed the rug before saturation. I also pretreated any spots or stains. For me the rug did not hold the solution so no feeling of having residue. The carpet felt very fluffed and smelled awesome after. I like this machine but you need the patience to clean it after. I took it apart both times to ensure all residual dirt, lint etc was totally cleaned out to leave the machine well ready for next use. You do have to screw out 6 screws to get to the brush and to clean thoroughly. It's great for the price! It definitely works! I am pleased with my purchase!
