Took Some Time - Well Worth the Effort.
M. H. M. H. 1 second ago My 2 cents - I have had the EC 89 from Lowe's for more years than I can remember in my garage for home use only. The manual was updated in 3/2011 so I am not sure how long it's been in use. The first thing to go was the on/off switch that I simply got around by plugging/unplugging the unit. 5 days ago the regulator broke while I had the unit charged in the garage. The knob shot out and hit me in the shin and left a pretty nasty bruise! I decided to replace both parts and found them on Amazon for the best price. Removing the parts was the biggest problem and took the most time due to the age of the compressor. I used PB B'laster and a variety of wrenches and even my small vise to get everything apart. The only problem I had on re-assemble was a brass adapter that one of the gauges fit into on the regulator. I actually bent it in an oval shape on the top that the gauge went in. I was able to get it back in shape enough to get several rotations with nylon tape (which you use on all threads on re-assembling). All is well again after my test run.

it worked!
couldn't use my air compressor as old pressure valve blew the knob off and had to get another one. this was identical to one removed and works great.

Good fit but it has a leak
It was very easy to put in place once all surrounding details had been removed. However it does leak air, so I think I may not have received all the bolts needed. A bit annoying.

Installation hints! It is not necessary to disassemble the pressure switch unit..Noooo disassemble!
This is the Hitachi EC89 The first photo shows that the new regulator cannot be spun on directly. Photo 2 shows the pressure switch unit rotated to the left (use a 14MM wrench on the nipple that connects the switch to the tank). Photo 3 shows that the new regulator will now clear the tank for threading on. Photo 4 shows completed installation except for the gauge. It was pretty straightforward and simple to replace and the compressor is back in service. I believe the price is a bit high given the construction quality (the replacement is same quality as the original). I made sure that the knob was tucked under the unit a bit more this time so that it won't easily get bumped while moving the compressor. Only 4 stars for price and quality.

The right part at the right price
The pressure reducer arrived quickly abs was way to install. Hint - use pipe thread tape to eliminate leakage.

Did not fit my Hitachi compressor
Wasn't a direct fit. I had to holesaw the panel for this to fit. The regulator was a bigger diameter than the original.

like I work in an office for a living
So, like I work in an office for a living. I just own an air compressor. There are not service stations anymore so it is a real pain trying to locate a place to air up a tire when you need it. That being said, you would not expect a person like this to know anything about repairing an air compressor. This part is an exact replacement so there was no need for any kind of adapters. I simply removed the old part and put in the new part. Works like a charm. After doing a little research, I discovered it is not a good idea to leave your tanks with full pressure at all times. This leads to the failure of the original part. So, if you are done, let the pressure out of your tank.
