Great item, wrong description, missing pieces
Re: Whether this is Male or Female - it is MALE on BOTH ends. Strangely, the included Hasngrohe instructions from 2013 also incorrectly state this is female. The Hansgrohe product specifications from September 10 2016 correctly states that the inlet is male. The year of the drawing is for production after 09/04, so I suspect that there may have been a previous version which was female (much older, I doubt these are still circulating but you never know). In any case, I ordered on September 12th 2016 and received a male inlet. You can confirm the current version I received by searching for "27413821 Hansgrohe product data sheet" (it was the first link for me). From a functional perspective, this thing is rock solid..."like they used to make them" - simply a nice heavy wall pipe with a beautiful finish. Note that in my package only the pipe and escutcheon only the pipe and escutcheon were included. I had to source the missing pieces from Hansgrohe (will be weeks before they arrive). I found the part numbers in the product data sheet: 95208000 - mounting kit 40916000 - mounting set 98383000 - o-rings It can technically be installed without these pieces, however one of the reasons I paid a premium for this pipe was for the added support. From a price perspective it's not a bargain especially considering that at the end of the day it's just a pretty pipe with some basic hardware, but I made the decision to buy it (matched my installation, and only one of a few I could find with the support and correct length). Although I'm confident that Amazon and Hansgrohe will resolve the issues, I'm rating 4 stars because of the missing parts and incorrect inlet description and instructions.

Thanks for the great customer service Amazon!
So first, Amazon - awesome. The price is about the same every where, no discounts unless you purchase discount brands. My shipment was schedule to be delivered in 2 fast days but it got hung up by UPS with no further updates. When I contacted Amazon, I got a reply by email in just a couple hours with possible solutions. I needed the part to install with a new shower head (Hansgrohe 27474821 Raindance 240 Air Shower Head, 10-Inch, Brushed Nickel ) so they shipped me a new one overnight. I really appreciate the customer service at Amazon. Ok, so the product. Easy to install. I was replacing a shorter arm that was also a brushed nickel Hansgrohe arm so it was particularly easy. You want to be careful not to scratch the finish, so here are some easy steps: 1. Remove the old head first - Mine twisted off, but I was prepared with an adjustable crescent wrench - not the kind with jaws you squeeze as those will mar the finish. 2. Stick a screwdriver into the open arm end and use some light force to twist the arm until it comes off. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. 3. Insert the flange on the end of the new arm then do the screwdriver trick again (don't forget a generous amount of teflon tape) and tighten very well. Push the flange against the wall. 4. Flush some water through it, just to make sure its clear of debris. 5. Teflon tape the threads and install new arm, tightening with the crescent wrench at the notched part. Nice and easy project. If you find the arm is too wobbly, spray a bit of Great Stuff expanding foam (or similar) into the hole after installing the arm to stabilize. It's a nice looking arm. Expensive, yes - but if you're using their head as well you might as well shell out a bit more for the matching arm.

Looks great, works great, pricey
This seems like it's pretty costly, considering that it's a simple 15" chromed pipe (imagine how expensive your home's plumbing would be if you have to pay this same rate per linear foot for all your in-wall piping!). I also can't help but notice that the 6" Hansgrohe shower arm costs 20% as much of the 15" arm, but it's 40% of the size. On the other hand, this arm is strong and made of solid brass, and Hansgrohe is a good company. In summary I GUESS I'm glad I bought it instead of a cheaper model? Compared to the total price of renovating our bathroom, the cost of this pipe wasn't a big deal - I got really good deals on some other things so I guess they philosophically cancel out. Just remember that if you're rebuilding your shower to install, or ask your plumber to install, a drop ear elbow (or similar) in the wall to ensure that the whole assemblage doesn't sag or droop. That sort of thing easily can happen if you're trying to retrofit an existing shower that wasn't designed for the combined weight of the arm, the head, and the water that fills them while in use.

Perspective out the window........
This pipe is over engineered. Its very heavy. The finish is spot on with other Hansgrohe product. You thinking, “Is this worth the money”? Maybe the answer is how did you get here? I bought a $450 shower head. Why stop now? Logic went out the window $$$$ ago. Its a luxury item. Maybe the answer is how much have you spend already on his shower. Just don’t really anyone what some of this stuff costs. Just enjoy it!

Perfect for my new shower.
Not yet installed in my bathroom which is being remodeled. I got it to hold my huge 15" Rainshower shower head. Plumber likes the quality. I ordered all Grohe and Hansgrohe fixtures. Incidentally, since every fixture I wanted for my new shower (except the shower head) was available from the Amazon Warehouse, I decided to give it a try. Every single fixture was in perfect, new condition. Some had mangled boxes and some were repacked in regular cardboard boxes, but all are perfect. The best part -- I saved over $230 !! All are high end Grohe or Hansgrohe products.
