If you have more than a 10 gallon tank, you need one of these
A great labor saving device. I got into the fish hobby a few months ago with a 10 gallon tank. Then, I added a 40 gallon tank. Then, I added another 40 gallon tank. Hauling 5 gallon buckets of water was great exercise for the first two tanks. When I got to the third, I decided it was time to look into a water changer. I was going to try to build one myself since I already had a gravel vacuum. I figured with a few parts from the hardware store and about 50' of tubing, I could save myself some money. After a LOT Of searching for the right parts and tubing, I finally broke down and bought the Aqueon Changer. Even if I could have found all the parts I needed, it was going to cost me as much or more than the Aqueon. So, I bought it. I'm happy with the construction of the device and the adapters it came with. It easily fits onto my bathroom sink and I can reach all three tanks with the 50' hose. A couple of slight drawbacks are the tubing itself is very thin. I keep mine in the garage and it's hot this time of year. I realized when the tubing is hot it gets VERY flexible and therefore kinks easily. A couple of times I have been draining the tank and wondering why it was going so very slowly, only to realize yet another kink had appeared in the hose, almost as if by magic. That problem goes away as the tubing cools. The other thing is the way it's designed, you use water running from your faucet to create a siphon to pull water from your tank. If you've ever drained a waterbed, you might be familiar with this. Well, this uses a lot of water for one thing. And, secondly, my sink doesn't drain fast enough to handle both the water running from the tap and the water draining from the tank. Third, I like using the waste water to water my plants rather than running it down the drain. So, I use a method I found on YouTube for starting a gravel siphon and remove fitting from the end of the line and drain the fish tank water outside. Then, I re-attach the fitting and fill from the tap. I haven't used the competing brand of water changer. But, I'm very happy with the Aqueon. p.s.- after having owned the 50' version of this for about a year, I'd like to update my review. I keep my changer in the garage where it gets warm. The hose tends to kink because the wall are too thin. I spend 5 minutes or more each time trying to get all the kinks out of the hose and I'm afraid I'm going to spring a leak in one of those soon. I wish the hose were thicker. p.p.s- After using the water changer for about a year and a half, finally one of small cracks that had been appearing in the hose broke all the way through. I could not find a replacement hose anywhere. Now, the good news. I called up Aqueon with the intention of buying a hose from them. They told me there is a lifetime warranty on the device. They not only replaced the hose, they sent a whole new water changer. You cannot beat that. I am going to store it inside now though and see if that solves the problem with the hose kinking.

The fish love it!
So first off I am pretty new to the hobby. I got a 55g and a 36g. Blue Acaras, red tail sharks and some upside down catfish. Of course some goldfish lol. Packaging... 0/5 My arms look like I got in a fight with a racoon or a small dog. Why is it so difficult? I don't see people lining up to steal this... Assembly...3/5 I think of myself as somewhat smart but this took a second. I honestly thought the tube I got was the wrong size. If you look at the two devices that attach to it. One of them is smaller than the other. My tube was bent smaller on the end. So I used the smaller of the two to open the tube up so the other end would fit. It fit like a glove. Attaching to the sink...3/5 Water was going ever where at one point and when I flipped the switch between on and off it popped off the faucet lol Suction...depends on water and I think the distance of the cable. I was able to suck most of the poop up. Water suck up end was a little bigger than I was used too. I moved stuff around and it worked. Time...5/5 I fought with opening the package, half way drained my 55g and filled it back up in less than a hour. Dang... Weight...5/5 Didn't have to carry a bucket at all. Only used the bucket to verify how much prime I needed to add. I do a cap for every 5 gallons. Word to wise... Watch the water your putting in your tank. If you live in a janky apartment like me you don't have that much warm water. Rolling it up at the end of the night make sure you close the ends and if you don't want to collect water in it spin it correctly. This was written after my first use. I was impressed with it. Water changes I think is the hardest part for me. This will make it easier and less stressful putting a 5 gallon bucket over my head. So I like it. It did seem plasticity but it worked!

Drastically reduce tank cleaning time.
I purchased this item, as I was looking for a way to reduce the pain of cleaning/water changing my tropical aquarium. For many years the process required many many filling and emptying of buckets of water, which was time consuming, repetitive and messy. I decided to go for this kit as a trial, and have thankfully not looked back. Suction levels are not outstanding, but more than sufficient enough to get the job done. You may require to purchase additional fittings for your taps (faucet) for this to work well. This is also not recommended if you live in a location where water is a premium, as this device does waist a lot of water in the process. - So if you want to lose the buckets and reduce the time spent on water changing time, this is the buy for you.

5 stars for ease and speed of use - 2 stars for build quality. Average 3 stars.
As a concept it gets 5 stars, and is truly the easiest way to perform a water change - EVER. Water flowing from the tap sets up a natural vacuum that sets the siphon going. At this point you turn off the tap (to save water), and the siphon continues naturally. To refill the tank - use a digital probe to test the water temperature. I have a 500ml container under the spout and the thermometer probe in that, and adjust the mixer accordingly. Half way through filling, I add the chlorine removing solution. Job done. Water changes now take 15 minutes whereas before they took 1.5 hours (and a lot of spillages to mop up too). My only issue is the build quality, which is rubbish. The top locking thumb ring sheared off after the third use, and I had to saw off the still attached bit of ring and fitted a short length of 30mm hose with a jubilee clip to make good the connection to my tap. I notice also a slight crack forming in the thumb tightening ring on the hose attachment (I had bought the hose separately which made everything much cheaper than buying the complete kit). The T-piece itself seems robust enough - it's the tightening bits that lack strength. You could build your own version of this with good quality plumbing parts for about the same money and it would last a lifetime. I doubt this device will make it past six months

Simple to use
Fantastic bit of kit. Saves a lot of back and forth with heavy buckets price a little bit on the high side for me but I suppose it makes up for that in time it saves so easy for water changes and re filling your aquarium.

Good in theory, reality - rubbish
In theory this is a great idea, in reality however it's just not very good. I've had 2 of these and both broke in under a month, the first one was broken during delivery and I was sent a replacement free of charge, and the 2nd one broke after the second time I used it and I was only using to refill the tank as the suction created to drain the tank was so slow that it took over an hour to drain 20-25% of a 180ltr tank whereas I can drain 90% of my tank in 10-15mins if needed with a standard siphon/gravel vac. Basically it's just too flimsy and weak

water changes made simple
I purchased this after reading a few reviews from mostly aquarists in the states where this product ships from.i was sick of lugging buckets back and forth and the length of time it took to do a proper clean and change of my large 350litre tank.like other reviews ive read on the aqueon you do have to be aware of a couple of things.when you connect the outlet hose which comes from the tap valve out to your tank make very sure its pushed on as far as it can go as i had a slight incident of it flying off during first test run.not a major deal in my home as my kitchen floor is fully tiled and a quick mop up sorted that.otherwise i cannot say enough good things about this product.i done a water change of almost 50 percent of my 350ltr.in less than 20 mins.before it took me well over an hour at best.no aching back.and with the mixer tap i have it was easy to get the water temp bang on to where it was going out.just follow the tips i did from other owners like gently screwing in the tap valve unit before attaching the hose and straighten out kinks in hose prior to use best you can and im sure you'll love it too.just wish more manufacturers made as good a product in this country.
