Well worth the $20
I'm like most of the other reviewers here - a DIY'er with enough experience to attempt doing many of the projects that most people would hire someone to do but lacking the enough experience where I don't have to struggle with some of the more complex installations like crown molding. What makes crown particularly difficult is that every cut is an angle and each has to be done percisely or you end up with one ugly looking finished product. Compounding this is that the molding had to be cut upside down, you have to know the spring angle of the molding (fortunately it's generally 45 degrees) and you have to remember as you are cutting it if it's for the left, right, inside or an outside corner. Trust me when I say that it's very easy to get confused when cutting it and you only find out when you walk over to the wall and see that you cut it in the wrong direction or that it was an inside cut instead of an outside cut. That's were this jig comes in - it helps eliminate the mistakes and guesswork and keeps you from wasting expensive crown molding and pulling your hair out. I wasn't certain what the jig was going to be like when I ordered it but it have very good reviews and I figured if it worked and saved me from making only 2 mistakes it was well worth it since it's pretty inexpensive. While it's made entirely of plastic, it's solid and not apt to flex. The directions that came with it are not the best however and it took me a few minutes to figure out how to use it. On one piece it is stamped with the word TOP and Int., EXT on both ends. With this side up, the flat side that is perpendicular to this is the side that goes against the saw fence. The molding is then put in slot below it facing up (top of the molding up) with back of it up against the angled plastic piece. The beauty of this is that a lot of the confusion is eliminated because you are no longer flipping it up side down making the angled cuts in the opposite direction. In addition, the markings Int/Ext (for both the left and right) are noted with a slanted mark showing what your cut should look like depending on what you are cutting it for. Just these marks alone would be worth $20 because they keep make you aware of what the cut should look like prior to cutting it. No more cutting and then realizing you made a mistake. The guide also keeps the molding in same angle cut after cut. One of the biggest issues with crown is making sure it sits against the saw fence at exactly the same angle for each cut. This jig ensures that this happens it allows you to hold it in the same place for each cut rather than hoping you have it square against the fence and base. The jig came with a angle finder as well. Most corners in a house are not a true 90 degrees though they might look like it. When the walls are installed a corner bead is nailed to the edge and either plaster or dry wall mud put over it. This changes the wall so often the angle will be something like 88 or 92 degrees. It might not sound like much but one or two degrees off and you'll have big spaces between the crown where the two pieces meet and it looks like crap. This angle finder, even though it looks cheap, works well. Get the angle of your walls, divide it in two, make your cuts and you'll find the pieces fit much better that they would otherwise. Overall, this jig is a life saver. Crown is expensive so if this thing saves you from making a couple mistakes not only will it save you time and aggravation, but it'll pay for itself from saving you from having to throw away pieces that were cut incorrectly.

Good if you know what you’re doing
I didn’t know what I was doing so cut the crown short but this made the process more intuitive than the YouTube videos I watched. I’m sure the next project will go perfectly using this product. They provided directions for many situations but still went over my head. Practice first and read the tutorials.

Fantastic! I used this and didn't make a single mistake with my crown cuts
I'm a weekend warrior with a crummy Delta 10' mitre saw. I wanted to put crown moulding on my kitchen cabinets, and after watching a few videos, I was trying to wrap my brain around the 'flip the crown stock upside-down and then reverse the side of your cut to the opposite side...' Trim carpenters install crown all the time, so they're used to the mental gymnastics to cut an inside corner. That confusion completely vanishes with this crown jig. Put the stock in right-side up and drop the blade. The jig is lightweight, holds the stock well, and has the inside/outside right/left angles stamped into the top of the jig. No more upside-down crown for this hacker. Even with my crummy saw, my corners are tight and I literally NEVER screwed up a cut. Not one time. Granted, a little cabinet crown moulding is not that big a deal. But for a homeowner who doesn't want to screw up a couple of boards of crown stock because he forgot to flip it over before he cut it- this jig is GREAT! It just does what it should... makes it easy for normal guys like us to get professional results. And it's inexpensive; it literally paid for itself with the money I would have thrown away on messed up mitre cuts. The protractor is a wonderful addition, but my cabinets are all right angles, so I haven't really used it yet. But it gives you both the angle AND the measurement of the angle divided by two, so you know how to set your saw table. Anyway, if you're on the fence, this jig is a great help. Good luck with your project!

Good enough for a consumer/hobbyist
These are very useful items for occasional/light use. 1. Excellent instructions. I actually admire how well they put them together with photos, because the molding jig could be quite confusing to use otherwise. 2. Could be more rigid. The molding jig has some flex and that can throw off the angles slightly when clamping a large piece of crown molding to it. I had to learn, over time, exactly how much pressure to apply to get the angle about right. If the jig were more rigid, this would be less of an issue. 3. The protractor is functional, but because it's so thin, it doesn't position itself perpendicular to the wall. If you don't make sure it's perpendicular, you won't get the right angle!

Needed better directions
While this seemed to be a help, the directions were quite lacking and made the already confusing process even more complicated. Perhaps better directions would have made it better, but I threw it away.

Super helpful makes the inside cuts much easier...lil bit of fudging on outside cuts
I've done crown before and struggled with the upside down backwards method. I have a room with 8 walls of varying angles. The angle finder works well up to 100º walls. beyond that had to use my digital protractor. One small pain is that the length end is now on the down side. makes angles easier but your final length is not measured on the top...so you have to guess where the blade will hit. start first cut being generous and you can adjust down to the right angle. only takes a cut or two to get it dialed in. i was doing 20.25º/24º/44º cuts and nailed it first time. Combined with the crown holder so I could hang as one person...highly recommend.

Great for those just learning to cut crown molding.
We like the features of this product because we are into diy construction. We had very little idea how to cut crown molding, or how to determine the angle needed. This tool includes a protractor and instructions. We reccomend it for other diy'ers to learn and to strengthen skills needed.

I 100% recommend this for DIYers.
Turned me into a pro overnight. Very straight forward. I still made mistakes but only because I don't know the difference between left and right, inside and outside. Over time I managed to slowly cut away the device in my miter saw so you need to be aware of it when cutting mouldings. Little slices-nothing that ruined the device. The protractor was useless. It kept falling apart. I stopped using it 20 minutes in. I am very happy to have purchased this item.

Could be more rigid
Product has too much flex. Perhaps this was designed into it on purpose to allow user to apply a little fine-tuning “English” but I found it annoying. Excellent instruction sheet provided.

Works like a charm.
This gadget actually saved me $3000 from hiring someone to do the job at my house. A bit confused at first but expert in no time.
