Looks Nice - Quality Not Great

I am easy to please, so three stars from me is unusual. I have intentionally deferred reviewing this product for more than a year because I consider durability a huge factor when shopping for products that are subjected to Mother Nature. My review will be long so if you are "on the fence" about this item stop here and save your money. If our heart is set on this nice-looking bird bath please read on before making your final decision. Our bird bath has been in use for 8 months (I am not counting the winter months when it was neatly packed away in its original box for the season). It was purchased in memory of a deceased family member who was a bird lover. The pros: It has a very authentic aged bronze look but is actually made of a coated resin (i.e., a plastic). Still, it is heavy enough to withstand strong wind. Mine has never blown over nor has it ever been subjected to severe winds of over 30 mph. Much has been written about the full sun requirement in order for the pump to work. This is true - a passing cloud will even halt the pump. That's OK with me. Not a sunny day? Will not work - that's OK, too. The pump itself is tiny and is protected by an even tinier foam filter (to keep out debris and bird poop). But the pump still works fine (I thought it would be the first thing to go when I made the purchase) . Both solar panels are still fully functional albeit badly hazed over with tap water minerals (we have hard water). The biggest pro is that it is a true delight to the eye when the water is flowing down the umbrella and the birds are taking a dip or having a drink. The cons: This bath needs attention/cleaning. You can't fill it up and walk away for days. I found that I need to thoroughly clean the green slime from the surfaces at least weekly (It needs plenty of sun. Remember? Well, with all that sun come algae growth.) I also dump and refill with fresh water daily. CAREFUL! One time last year it fell from my hands and the umbrella snapped off where the metal shaft screws into the plastic umbrella - an inherently weak design, metal transitioning to resin/plastic. Anyway, I was not able to glue it so I contacted the company (Smart Solar) and was able to get a replacement umbrella - at a cost of course but that was OK. They were very helpful on the phone. Now the biggest negative - that aged bronze coating look that I referred to at the beginning - it is chipping away badly on the bottom of the bath where the bench/kids/umbrella rests atop the recess that houses the water pump. Beneath the bronze-look coating is the light gray plastic/resin that stands out like a sore thumb. I am glad it is beneath the water so that it is not so noticeable. I wish I could attach a photo - sorry about that. BOTTOM LINE: While it still works and looks great (from a distance), it sure seems over-priced for the cheap quality construction. I wish this was real solid bronze. I would pay a lot of money for it if it were because this is such a nice idea and really is a delight to the eye. A very generous 3 stars because we get so much please out of it. My advice - don't do it.

Love it! UPDATE 1 year

We've had the birdbath for about a month now and are very happy with it. It was very quick and easy to assemble. It works just as described and I only had to clean it for the first time a few days ago. The only issue is that the finish is eroding a bit into some greenish spots on the legs of the kids and the bench. But this change in the patina does not bother me at all - I think it adds character. We have now had this birdbath for 14 months, used for about 8 months, with it being stored the rest of the time. As I mentioned after only one month, the finish continued to wear off and the lower part of the kids and bench, as well as some parts on the umbrella are now a totally different color. If you zoom in on my photo you will see that those parts are now a light gray. This still does not lower my rating, as I don't mind that it is two colors. I spray out most of the icky water every day or two and take it apart only about once a month to spray out the filter. It's slimy and gross, but works just fine. It did just stop operating a few days ago but I looked up the troubleshooting and I think I need to find a power switch (which I have never noticed) and allow the battery to charge up in the sun. I'm confident that if this does not do the trick, the company will take care of me.

Amazing Customer Service & Great Product

We purchased this product as part of an Eagle Scout project. The fountain is easy to put together and looks great. Since we live in Southern CA it can be left outside year round. It will be installed in a garden where kids are and we wanted to make sure it is secure and won't tip so we contacted the company, Smart Living, for their advice. OMG... I can't say enough good things about the woman who answered the phone. She was a delight to speak with and offered great suggestions and advice based on our needs. She helped me right there and didn't even transfer me to another department. We want to purchase an additional solar pump as a back up and she looked up the exact item number and explained the process. Thank you for your awesome customer service as it shows you truly care about your customers. I will purchase again from them any day!

Gorgeous fountain. I have had this outside for a month now and it works like a charm. The water flows wonderfully, just like the photo. I am very happy with the product. If the product could hold a charge or work in partial shade, I would've given it a 5/5. A couple important things to note.... It DOES NOT have a battery. It needs 100% sunlight to work. Even partial shade or a cloudy day will make it stop working. Make sure to always check that it has water in it, else the motor can overheat and die. Clean off the solar panels from time to time else it will not work if it gets buildup on it It is a little short. Would've preferred it to be slightly taller. But I didn't take off for that.

Perfect centerpiece for flower garden!

This is an incredibly beautiful centerpiece for the raised flower bed we built! I’m just in love with it. The finish is gorgeous and the whole piece lends elegance to our outdoor DIY project. The trickling water is lovely to listen to, and the scene of children reading under an umbrella is just darling. It’s heavy enough to be very sturdy, even in its elevated position and in gusty winds, but not so heavy that it’s difficult to move if needed. It took less than five minutes to assemble and is working perfectly so far, but we’ve only had it a few days. I’ll come back and edit my review if we have any issues.

Love love love

I got this as a refurbished fountain fountain, and it has been absolutely amazing. The only drawback is that it only stays on when the sun is out. When there is no sun it does not operate. But. But when the sun is out, it is absolutely adorable it is absolutely adorable and so relaxing.. The birds absolutely love it as well

Fragile Top - Impossible to Get Replacements

A lovely fountain... But as many previous reviews, the umbrella top is fragile. No way to get replacement parts..
