Great for aspiring mermaids

My daughter has been swimming with these fins for three years (we've bought one each year). She started when she was 8. She is now 11, and just this week graduated to a finis competitor monofin (WAY more expensive than these little guys....) and much more powerful. However, she has had a great time with these fins. They adjust to fit different sized feet. My daughter is probably at the upper range of the feet size - size 7 womens. They are fairly hardy, although my daughter managed to wear hers out each summer - the strap that goes around the ankles usually gives up. But, she used hers a LOT. I would make a sheath out of swimsuit fabric to make it into a mermaid tail. Got admiring looks wherever we went. The shape of the Finis monofin really made it easy to do - no cutting or shaping required. We're going to have to be a lot more creative with her new monofin which is not "mermaid tail" shaped. Still, highly recommend for beginners - you cannot beat the price if this is something your daughter wants to try out. All the other monofins are much more expensive. Just be with your daughter while she learns to use it. If making a tail, just lay your daughter down on a newspaper, draw around her waist and legs while she's wearing the fin, cut out, turn right side to right side, sew two sides together, turn right side out, insert fin by bending slightly, et voila! Happy mermaiding!

Decent fin.

After reading various reviews that the shoe sizing was off I decided to actually measure my feet out before buying. I knew this was going to be small on me and just barely fit my feet but it works well for swimming. I figured it was better to dish out half the price of a small adult size monofin and sew on extra velcro to lengthen the straps an inch. the back slips off a lot, but it doesn't really matter because the fin itself is inside a lycra mermaid tail i made so it still stays decently. If you are an adult wanting to make your own mermaid tail this is rather small in size but i personally don't think it looks that bad with a homemade tail. if you're a womens size 7.5 or smaller you should be able to squeeze your feet in decently. If you can, sew in a light rubber pad to the back strap. That's what I did and it helps keep from slipping as much.

My kid loves this mermaid tail. All of the kids who see her using it love this mermaid tail. They ask her to borrow it all of the time. Strangers come up to me asking where I got it. My only complaint is the plastic isn't very durable as this is our second one because (while we lost the first one) the tail cracked and it wasn't usable anymore. So I purchased another one for my daughter the following summer. She used it all summer but halfway thru, the plastic cracked again. Could be user error as my kids play with this thing none stop. Could be how it's stored. Who knows, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt simply based on the entertainment value it provided for my kids and those around her.

I bought this mermaid fin for my 4 year old granddaughter. It’s fits perfect and she loves it! I also like the it came with a backpack case to store and for her to carry. The sparkles on the fin are a added bonus.

Room for Improvement

I bought this for my daughter. As other users have stated, it doesn't stay on; two pumps of the legs with the dolphin kick and it slides right off! My daughter is an excellent swimmer, but is so disappointed she can't keep swimming like a mermaid because this mono-fin won't stay on. I haven't tried putting water shoes on her to see if that helps (like other users recommended). In my opinion, I shouldn't have to buy water shoes to make this product work. It's pretty, but not useful. Also, the fin isn't as wide as others, which I imagine would not help go as far/fast (if you could get it to stay on your feet). I'm very disappointed and if it weren't too late, I would want a refund. It's too bad I purchased this in the spring so that I would have it in time to sew her mermaid tail to go with it :( ***UPDATED REVIEW (added 1 star)*** I ordered fabric and made my daughter a mermaid tail to fit over her legs and this monofin. I sewed about 2 inches on the bottom of the fin part of the tail (on the left and right side) to hold the fin on. The mermaid tail I made helps to hold this monofin on. Again, I'm not happy about having to have other ways to make the fin stay on. Because other users were asking about flexibility, I also wanted to add that the purple part is hard plastic, but it will bend slightly (enough to bend it into position into the mermaid tail I made).

My Daughter Loved It!

My 9 year old daughter loves Mermaids, so she wanted the whole suit for her birthday so she could feel like a mermaid. I was a bit afraid to get the whole suit for safety reasons, so I began my search for a reasonable priced fin that has great reviews. I found this was one of the cheapest offered on Amazon and it had mostly great reviews. My daughter opened it and absolutely loved everything about it and so did all the other little girls at the party. The pink and purple was a plus because that's her favorite colors. She wears a big girl shoe size 2 and there was still room behind her heel. I did like how it has the strap that is easily released in an emergency. The final itself is hard plastic. I read some reviews that others had snapped in half, but after a month use, ours looks a little bent from her standing on it in the pool, but hasn't snapped or cracked. One thing I would recommend is to store it separately so the back strap dries and so it doesn't get damaged among the other pool toys. I would definitely recommend this for any little mermaid lover. I would not recommend it to children who are swimming in a pool over their head or who are too young to release the emergency strap on their own.

Small feet only

This is a good item but it doesn't stay on the feet while swimming and is very hard for kiddos to put on themselves. I recommend for 6-8yo

Absolutely gorgeous product!

This cute little swim fin is absolutely gorgeous and so adorable and great for kids learning to be a mermaid, my daughter has fallen on love with this amazing swim fin and plays mermaids non stop lol it's a brilliant product and the best so far, and I always trust Finis for their extremely fine products I highly recommend Finis products for beginner swimmers and also people who want an authentic mermaid experience! ????????❤

Flip Flopped

I purchased this for my daughter and she loved it, but.... As soon as she tried to wear it we found problems. The securing arrangement kept falling off the back of her heels, the Velcro style straps kept coming apart and the front dug into her insteps to such an extent that it took a couple of days for the marks to heal. Still I managed to fit an additional strap to stop it slipping off and this also alleviated some of the in step problem. However after around 20 hours of use it is nearly dead, it has not lasted anything like it should and the design is flawed with weak points that lead to splitting and stress marks on the flippers. Mermaid Monofin -- Pink

Your mermaid dreams can come true! With this monofin, which can be bought in either pink or purple, you can swim and learn the dolphin kick, exercise, and pretend you're a fish/mermaid/etc. Cons: (I would rate this a 5-star monofin, except that) when swimming the straps often come off. If you adjust the straps really firmly, it will usually stay on. This monofin is not designed as well as the Wave Monofin (the Wave Monofin has separate straps.)This monofin also doesn't let you go as fast as other monofins (wave monofin, competitor monofin, shooter monofin, etc.) but it's designed for kids, not Olympic swimmers, so that's okay. Pros: This Monofin is much lighter and easier to carry compared to the Wave Monofin. It helps you learn the dolphin kick and is great for make believe. It only takes a few seconds to get on and off, and it is the best monofin for swimming backwards. I personally find this monofin MUCH better than flippers. Flippers are not great for kids and also flippers are much harder to swim in. Some reviewers have said that this fin is bad because it broke. The strap is delicate - (probably the most delicate monofin strap) but unless you are VERY, VERY, VERY rough with it it WILL NOT BREAK. I'm updating this a year or two later and my fin is in almost perfect shape except for a few scratches. The plastic has not broke and neither have the straps. Also, reviewers have complained about the monofin slipping off when swimming. Water shoes probably help keep it on-- but you can EASILY solve the problem by adjusting the velcro parts of the strap to a tight size. At first this might feel unpleasant, but after you've swam a bit it will help the fin stay on. With EVERY monofin you buy you will have this problem, so just be aware of that.
