One of the worst products I've purchased

In the decades I've been buying products on Amazon, this one was easily at the bottom of the list. Thankfully, I drink out of white glasses and noticed a lot of black sediment at the bottom of my water glass regularly after the ice had melted. I've owned this refrigerator for a decade and have used brand and non-brand replacement water filters, and bought the Culligan branded filter for the first time relying upon the name recognition because the Whirlpool ones were so much more expensive. I stopped using the ice because it was obvious something black was in the water/ice. I ordered a Whirlpool filter on Amazon, installed it and let it run for a couple of cycles and my water and ice are clear again. I am astonished and very disappointed, especially since Culligan is supposed to be a leader in water filtration. The box said it was manufactured by Culligan International but did not list a specific country.

Good replacement filter.

Culligan CUW5 Refrigerator Water Filter | Replacement for Whirlpool Water Filter 5 (EDR5RXD1) | Replace Every 6 Months | Pack of 1 I know the manufacturers replacement filters are expensive. This is a good alternative and fits great. I didn't notice any flavor difference and our cheap particulate tester showed almost the exact same result as the manufacturers one. Be sure to run it through a gallon of water before drinking when replacing any filter.

New-to-me brand, better price than Everydrop

Having to replace the water filter every 6 months adds up, especially since we use our French door fridge ice maker a lot and had a very expensive lesson in replacing them when our freezer stopped making ice and started leaking puddles because we hadn't changed ours within the first year of buying our Whirlpool fridge. I found the price on this brand to be right, even though I had never heard of Culligan before and usually end up buying the very overpriced Everydrop filters. If this works out well and remains similarly priced I will probably switch brands permanently as it would save me at least $50 a year.

Reliable Trusted Brand and Works

While these are more expensive than others I've seen, I realize it's from a US based company made in the USA and I'm willing to pay more for peace of mind.

This will NOT fit Everydrop Filter 5

I bought this item to replace an Everydrop Filter 5, and it did not fit. Apparently the hole at the very front of the filter on the Culligan filter is smaller than the hole on th Everydrop Filter 5. The Culligan will not even go in at all. Filtering specs look good but stick with Everydrop Filter 5 or HDX FMW-2 for similar filtering. Remember it may seem higher in price and the lower price ones look appealing, but the filtering is much better on the more expensive ones.
