Great product
The filter that came with my aquarium didn't completely clear the wayet This canister filter works great. Keeps my 36 gallon aquarium very clear. And is whisper quiet. This is my 2nd one. I had to send the first one back because 3 of them clips were broken and something rattling in the moter housing. Amazon really screwed up because they sent me the product with an already damaged box, had a good size hole in it. They reason I knew this is because the original box was packaged in another box, which has no damage.

Still the best canister filter out there - after all these years
Use this for a freshwater cichlid tank, in parallel with an undergravel filter powered by two small AquaClear 30 powerheads. Although the spraybar output tube of the Eheim canister filter is a great design, I'm using the canister filter in combination with an Aqua Advantage 8W hanging UV unit, which is about the right amount of flow for that unit (16W would be a good match too). The huge advantage of the classic Eheim is its ultra-simple canister design, without compartments or modules. You pack in your filter media in whatever order and combination you want, and the water is forced to flow through it. The Eheim uses significantly less energy than the Fluval FX6 I have on another tank, but the effective flow rate seems much closer between the two units than the specifications would indicate. The 2262 would be a good choice for truly large tanks, but the 2217 is fine for a 90g. For 125g to 180g tanks I would simply use (2) 2217s. I do wish they would make some incremental improvements on their classic design: specifically 1) to replace the little metal latches with a stronger and more secure screw-style latch (these can get loose or even break over time), and 2) to redesign the point of attachment of the intake connector relative to the canister (the stress of the tubing can exert enough rotational force on them to cause slow leaks - so watch out about positioning the tubing!).

Don't overthink this! Just get it!
What started out as a cute little 10 gallon fish tank to add life to my living room, has now evolved into 6 fish tanks all 55gal - 180gal each all throughout my home (& a pond out back!) So much for the cute & easy maintenance fish tank! Since getting that first tank a few years ago, I have learned so much about this hobby & have gone through nearly every brand of every style of every thing you need for a fish tank. The sky aligned just right & the heavens opened when I ordered this filter! This is the original green, Eheim canister filter. What I learned over time is to always buy a filter that is labeled for a tank twice the size you have. This one does such a beautiful job of keeping my 80 gal tank clean that I have cut down on the amount of constant water changes I was doing before- which was on average, 2 a week. Why so many? Well my filter was not the right size (even though it clearly stated on the box it was) and it just wasn't THIS brand! In the past I have bought the filters with all the bells & whistles, you know the ones... They cost as much as I'm paying to send my kid to college!! I've had the ones that hang on the back of the tank, in every size, with every layer of this & that to keep clean water... Other canister filters that just didn't really perform enough to match the price I paid & even non chemical filters. Nothing has worked like this Eheim, nothing. Sure this one is pretty simple & basic but I LOVE that about it! You won't have a cute little button to push to get the water moving or to prime this filter when running the first time (or after cleanings) but that's what YouTube is for!- there are so many videos out there to figure that out & it's super easy. I am not the type of person who can just naturally pull stuff out of a box without instructions & make it work. I did watch a couple of YouTube videos that showed me how to set this up and even after that... It took me all of 20 minutes to get everything set up & working. Super easy. Super clean water. Super healthy fish. Super happy customer!

Eheims are a solid choice
I've owned a number of Eheim canister filters and I now use two of these 600 (2217?) in my 90-gallon tank. Very quiet, utterly reliable. People complain about not being able to prime them, and I have to say, they must be idiots. It's not hard to do. It takes a few seconds for them to start up if you begin with a full canister. I also drill a hole a couple of inches below the waterline in the outgoing siphon tube so that the filter won't drain your tank if you have a disastrous hose detachment. This step used to be common knowledge back in the day, but I don't see it recommended these days. People complain about the flow not being high, and I concur, and that's why I use two of these in a 90. I also have a Maxi-Jet to help with circulation. That combination is plenty for a planted tank with half a dozen angelfish, 20 cardinal tetras, 10 black neon tetras and various catfish and SAEs. Short of a DIY sump system, I think these are the best (reliable, effective) filters you can buy.

Warning! Flooded my House!
Beware! Don't buy it! What a waste of $170! The instructions make zero sense, and I should have never bought it in the first place because all the reviews I read warned me. However, people did say in the reviews that they finally got it going. I was hopeful. Nope. There are extra parts without instructions, just like the reviews said. The fittings aren't the correct size, just like they said. Then, once I finally put it together by reading and looking at multiple outside videos and resources (literally hours later), the thing spewed water like a fountain all over over me and the whole area of the house. It's too late to return this so I'm out all the money, but hopefully my review can save someone else the same issues, stress, and loss of money. Look elsewhere. Please. I'll also file a report with the BBB. This product and company is horrible.

Awesome Filter
This filter is great, only needs to be cleaned about every 3 or 4 months. Once the return water flow starts to decreases you know it's times to clean the filter. This package has the filter, media and filter pads included. Fast shipping as it arrived sooner than the estimated delivery date.
