Good introductory board

Without mentioning the name of the massively popular television show which took over the back end of 2020, the game of Chess has not only re-introduced itself to the next generation of passionate chess players but also inspired curiosity in those looking to try something new. I purchased this board for the same reason you are browsing in this price range. My initial impressions of the game as a young person did not garner much appeal. However, and similar to the rest of the intrigued world, I realized I needed an inexpensive for myself to understand the game on my own terms. I'm happy to have had an inexpensive barrier of entry towards better understanding the game of Chess. This style of chess set is the most affordable cost of introducing yourself to the game or perhaps just another addition to your family board game collection. Yes, this is a "cheap" chess set, but its not terrible. The chess board is a coated folding cardboard, but the price-point quality is better than my memory of inexpensive chess sets when perusing my grandparent's gameboard collection. The chess squares measure 2"x2" and the plastic piece sizes replicate the size and feel of any casually friendly game you may experience with a friend or family member. In addition, the set also comes with easy to understand instructions. After enjoying several games with my family and this chess set over the holidays, we have since moved on to a folding wooden chess board with wooden carved chess pieces and keep this backup set in our board game collection. I recommend this board to anyone looking to try the game out and hope you enjoy this set for what it is, a game to enjoy with friends and family.

Not as pictured on the box

Let's start with the positives: the pieces are solid and mostly reasonably sized (though the pawns seem a bit smaller than I'd expect). The board is a reasonable size in terms of length and width, with dark brown and off-white squares. In short, if you brought out this chess set to play with a friend, it wouldn't impress anyone, but it's not distractingly small/cheap. On the minus side, a few things: - First and foremost, the board is thin. It's not as flimsy as the No Stress Chess board, but it's about half as thick as I'd expect a board game board to be. - Second, and likely the more practical concern, is that the box is flimsy paperboard, much more like a cereal box than a board game box. I'm not confident it will survive many uses. - Third, and most concerning: the contents of the box clearly don't match the picture on the box. From the board margin, to the logos, to the color of the board, to the copyright notice on the board, it's just clearly a picture of a different product. Overall, the impression I get is that Pressman used to make decent toy chess sets, and someone figured out how to wring a few extra pennies per box, and just reused the old picture. It's a real shame that with just a little thicker cardboard in a few places and a plainer design, they could have had a great value chess set. Instead, they saved pennies and made something that's fine to play with but makes me grumble a little every time I reach for it.

Good! All the pieces and a foldable board

This board is great for beginners, the prices aren’t like traditional ones but they are good enough for fun friendly games! Good size!

Perfect chessboard for beginners

It's a cardboard chessboard with plastic pieces. Perfect for beginners or casual players. Pieces have a nice weight to them and are made of durable hard plastic. Chessboard is laminated so that its somewhat resistant to spills or water droplets, but I wouldn't push it. Overall nice value for its price.

It’s ok for the price, prompt delivery

It’s just a typical board game type of cardboard chessboard and the chess pieces are ok. Nothing fancy but it’s a cheaper price too, so a good beginner set. I Wish that at least the cardboard packaging is a bit sturdier because that holds everything and is super flimsy
