Great for basic repairs

Easy to use, but have been machining for quite a few years. As long as careful and keep drill and tap straight should have no issues. Also remember to only go about half to maybe one full revolution with tap before reversing about a 1/4 turn to break cut threads. You dont want to just keep turning till it stops. Depending on material, you may also have to remove tap, blow out, and go a bit deeper and repeat. Take your time, be care6and should have no problems. Dont force the tap, especially small ones, they will break. Hope this may help others as well.

Above average skill required..

Had problems typical of helicoil bolts..i know, used to work with machinists on this issue. This kit got my problem fixed..but as with any helicoil thread insert, the hole you drill must be perfectly straight, and perfectly chased by the tap. When i tried to get the new bolts in my hole, they bound up. It is preferred to drill and tap the damaged holes using a drill press for best success making sure you have found the center and true path of the original damaged holes, same with the thread tap..a press is better..i had to manually drill and chase the threads by hand, resulting in a poor path for the insert to follow..resulting in uneven threads..dont expect " like new" condition when this repair is done with hand tools..but, it can be done with a steady hand and sharp eye..you only get one chance

Seemed great until I used the tap.

I was excited this came with the correct drill but unlike the bigger name brand. However, I’ve used threaded inserts for 20 some years. The tap might as well have been made of glass. I lubed it and was cutting aluminum, and it shattered. Luckily I got it out and had enough threads to repair the hole I needed to repair. Good luck if I was trying cut something made of steel or iron. Now I have to see if I can even buy the correct replacement tap to make the remaining inserts useful.

Get these for your toolbox!

Inserts can fix stripped-out threads. This size may be on your lawn-mower carb. or lawn-mower muffler or or even a car carb. top bolts. A chainsaw carb. may have 10-24 screws. Get the kit with the drill bit. Amazon has bolt assortments. Yours may be 'button bolts'. You may also need washers.
