Bright Neon Lamp, Good Construction, Test Leads are Slim and Sturdy
This is a very handy tool to have in your tool bag. It's the easiest way to identify "live" wires- common and load and is small enough to go anywhere. Having one of the test leads attached directly to the neon lamp is a plus as you can readily see it the moment it contacts the wire you wish to test. I was using a pigtail neon tester which eventually died after years of use and I had to look away from my test leads to see if the lamp was lit - this is better. For the money, it just can't be beat. For more intricate testing I use a digital VOM but for the easy stuff, this is smaller, lighter, less to carry and if I forget it at a job site it wouldn't be a big loss.

Probes are 5" long and serve a good variety of testing needs,especially lamp parts and receptacles for polarity because both legs are free and are short.The probes are colour coded well bonded and look substantial, the case is sturdy and very small but big enough for a large indicator light with a wide lens so you can see the thing even if it is not directly aligned with your sight, altogether many things my other testers could not deliver in the many different iterations of these things I have bought over the years.Does not require a battery!

It is a basic tool that works.
The leads are a bit too short to reach around a switch easily. A receptacle not so much as you can insert the leads directly. The technology (or lack of) makes it easy to understand...don't have to worry if it is on or the battery is charged, or if it is on the right function or range. It is small and worth having in your toolbox for the occasional need. If you need a tester for all day work I'd recommend something else.

Simple yet effective
Bought a much more expensive voltage tester, but not being an electrician I've yet to be able to figure the damn thing out and it now sits in the garage largely ignored. Instead this subsequent purchase has become the got-to device, because all I really need for the home repair and simple DIY projects I undertake is to know whether there is power flowing to an outlet or wires before I start messing with them, and this tells me exactly that!

only one drawback
Works just fine, but as with all tester probes, you have to have the face toward you to see the light, and that's not always the way things work out. When they make one that allows you to clearly see the light from all directions, I'll give it 5 stars.

This item was not what I expected. It was a tiny item that really did not have the capability to test the voltage.
