Line IQ Overrated / Where's the Strap

NOT SURE ABOUTS: ~Line IQ releases line intermittently which makes a sudden increase in cutting force and diameter which can lead to gouging the grass. I thought it would be smooth gradual release buts its more like 10 seconds of cutting and then sudden extension, and you have to quickly pull back to avoid gouging, which makes it hard to do a long smooth edge. My black and decker also had a similar periodic release of line that wasn't that smooth. Expected this to be better. Update: On a second week run I had less issues, maybe the line settled in and the release of line was much less noticeable. I changed nothing about the machine except maybe the battery was less charged. That could have dampened the intensity of the release. ~The power load didn't work the first try, it just made noises. But took the line out and tried again and it worked. NEGATIVES -With a 5.0 battery this thing is definitely heavier than my black and decker electric so they really should have included the strap. 25$ is insane markup for a 25 to 50 cent manufacturing cost. They give you the strap bracket but no strap. You can buy another brand strap for 10$ and I did, but shouldn't of had to. -My black and decker also has a wheel for sidewalk edging so you can just roll down the sidewalk for a consistent cut. This would help with the weight and control. POSITIVES +It does have plenty of power compared to my B&D and does run forever. The B&D needed 3x 2.0ah batteries to do its job. One EGO 5.0 battery let me mow, hedge trim, weed trim and do some blowing before it got weak. +The power trigger and safety is a really great and light design. The B&D would cramp my hand after a few minutes, the spring was so strong, so much so that I put a clamp on it permanently while I'm working. +Lower handle rotates easily for switching to edge trimming. Don't even need to unlock and relock if the tension is set right. However its a bit awkward when using a strap.

Quiet clean and effective

Works great to trim the grass and weeds in areas the mower can’t reach. Easy to control. Battery is quiet and easily stops or starts as needed. Some assembly is required of the handle, shaft and deflector.

It takes no time to charge the battery. I have a charger for other EGO products. It is a rugged piece of equipment and I would replace if it were necessary with a similar product.

USED but whoa

Got this one used, there were some imperfections but whoa, works like a dream. Way beter than the Miluakee M18 trimmer. Lightweight and fits nicely on the forearm. I am beginning to really love this brand. I have the chainsaw as well and am stoked at the battery life and battery compatibility. Head came preloaded with string so I can't say how easy or difficlult it is to restring but so far I love this little beast.

Heavy, poor trimming performance, vibrates

I have the Ego electric chainsaw, which I like fine, so thought I would get this without the battery and charger to replace my old Black & Decker. I got the folding shaft model. Easy to assemble and run, but I found it too long for me (I am tall), and quite heavy at the battery end. I might’ve put up with this, but it didn’t do a good job trimming. It barely seemed to make contact with the tall grass, unless I brought it all the way to the ground, when it scalped everything. it also vibrated excessively, leaving my hands tingling after just a minute or two of running time. I’m returning this. (I’m going to try harder to find a replacement trimmer head for my Black & Decker. This old trimmer has a movable guide bar to prevent hitting fences, damaging trees, etc., and can be swiveled 90° to be used as an edger. It’s lightweight and the string comes in spools that pop in and out easily. Best design ever.)

Saves Time, Battery Lasts 1/4 Mile

My 17 year old gas trimmer died, so went electric. Already have EGO leaf blower and 5.0 Ah battery. I'm on an acreage and I'm happy to say that a full charge of the battery allowed me to trim my full fence line, literally a 1/4 mile! (1322.8 ft) I also had some tree saplings growing along the fence, and this EGO trimmer with the 0.095" nylon twist line made quick work of the saplings (some were about 3/8" thick). This trimmer does not vibrate like my old gas trimmer, and it's certainly quieter. So, all-in-all, so far so good!

Great Product

This is the second one that I own... This one is a slightly newer model and has the auto load... Nice feature... My older one did not... and the clamps that hold the line in place broke.. :( Had to order new part to repair.. but the cost to do that was very inexpensive...

Easiest to use

Easiest and most lightweight trimmer I’ve ever used. The Powerload technology is heaven. Loads string in seconds, no more struggling, no more looking for the gas can, no more banging the trimmer on the ground. Has become my favourite yard tool.

Best weed trimmer I've ever used

It is light, the battery lasts a long time, the powerload makes it easy to reload the line and it is very effective. I recommend getting two batteries. I just love it.

Lots of power

Great operation, works well as i have the 5 amp batteries from the lawn mower and the snowblower, not heavy well balanced
