Study and handy.
We had to take the wheels off ... didn't go quite low enough in height to work with hubby's recliner. Put easy rectangular slides on base. Works well on wood floor.

Sturdy! Lip around edge! Worth it!
I bought this for my mother in law after she had a stroke. This sits in front of her recliner and she uses it for everything. The lip around the edge is one of the features I like the best and it is very easy to raise and lower

If you buy, read consumer's advice on assembly
I normally don't write reviews but this time it's a must! I want others who purchase this good product to know how to put it together. What a pain in the butt to put together, not because it's difficult , it's due to poor directions ! There was a rod floating around in the box and couldn't figure out what it was. It goes in the straight shaft which allows the table to raise and lower. PUT it in the perpendicular colIum before you put on the handle! I had to look on the picture on Amazon to figure out how the two tables go on the bar. I HIGHLY recommend looking at the picture on Amazon while assembling this product. I also had to use a long screw driver to hold the bar in place while tightening the triangle knob. Couldn't get it tight enough for the large tray not to tilt until I did this. One has to put the screw driver, or something else long, down the tube for the bar does not go all the way through the large tray's tube. Hope this makes sense. Once the table was properly assembled it works good. I have a small flat screen with a DVD player on the large tray so my bed ridden mother can watch movies. It's great to move from one side of the bed to the other as she is shifted. The small tray works great for the remotes and DVDs. I have raised the tray with DVD & TV on the tray and both were stable while the tray moved well. I choose this model for it has a slight lip on both trays. What ever flat object is on the tray will stay on the tray and not roll or fall off while moving around the room.

WARNING: Do yourself a favor and do not purchase this piece of (insert word related to your morning...).
I am having so many problems with this "insert a rotten word" that I will return it. My opinion of Drive Medical equipment is quite poor. I unpacked the table and there was an extra part not on the parts list. I had no idea what it was or if it was necessary. So I assembled the table without the part and it turns out it is the the shaft which presses down the spring mechanism to raise or lower the table top. So I disassembled the top, inserted the shaft and reassembled. It turns out the shaft is too short or the hand lever is designed wrong so I could not raise or lower the top at all. Determined to make it work, I devised a plastic wedge which I inserted below the lift handle and assembled it again. That worked...well almost. When I raise the table, it falls down to the lowest setting. That spring loaded mechanism doesn’t seem to be strong enough to hold the table top up. I purchased this table because it is supposed to carry up to 55 pounds but when I place my computer which weighs 21 pounds on top, the table top slides down to the lowest position. The table top will not stay in any position other than the bottom. It's worthless to me. Is it a design flaw? Is it defective? It doesn’t matter because it doesn’t work as advertised. But I save the best for last. The assembly directions actually have a figure of the table that has the table tops reversed from the way the tops should actually be. Not once but twice...two pics with the table tops reversed. After about an hour of trying to follow the stupid directions, I looked back of a picture of the assembled table and found the directions were backwards. See pic. I simple ignored the directions and figured out how to assemble the table without them. The parts list was incomplete but I mentioned that above. Is there any quality control at Drive Medical? Does anyone proof read directions before printing? This is inexcusable. If I was to charge Drive Medical for my wastedDrive Medical Multi-Purpose Tilt-top Split Overbed Table with Tray, Walnut time, I estimate they would own me nearly $200 and the table still doesn’t work. Please, do not buy this table. Fri, Nov 20th - A Postscript. I posted this same review on the Drive Medical website but it got censored. I wrote them a nasty email and some PR person wrote a rather condescending email back today. She didn't know "how" my review got lost. Then she continued on implying I didn’t know how to assemble the table and said "if" the table is defective, they would gladly replace it. It's already on the way back to Amazon.

The height range is great making it convenient for a variety of uses
The height range is great making it convenient for a variety of uses. I have read in other reviews and I must agree that it does not work well on carpeting and is very difficult to move without spilling something or knocking things off. For the price I paid I feel that I did get a good deal and have learned to be careful or ask for help when it needs to be moved. My husband put it together once it arrived and had no trouble at all figuring out what goes where. I did caution him that there may be an extra screw and that he shouldn't get upset if he can't find a place for it. He later explained the reason for the extra screw and why it was included...which was all beyond me, but he said it was needed for assembly although it was not a permanent part of the product. This item arrived while I was in the hospital and I made a direct transition from a heavy duty, very stable tray table to this one, but now that I am used to it, I have no complaints and am very happy that bought it.

Great Table, Great Quality, Great Price!
This is a great over the bed tilt top table! I have a disability which keeps me in bed a lot, and I use this for my laptop and other things, The height is easily ingested with one lever, and the angle of the tilt is also quickly adjusted, some of these tables you have to unscrew a bolt which means you have to clear the table first, not very practical, this one is very easy to adjust! The laptop and accessories are heavy, I have had is now almost a year and it has shown no signs of bowing with the weight, the wheels are still going strong, another weak point on other models, and I do love having the split level area for a drink or in this heat, I have clipped a small personal fan to it, the main area where the laptop sits is tilted towards me for better viewing. and the finish is showing no signs of wear and tear This also serves great for when eating in bed, for both patient and care provider, or when doing something medical or just needing extra surface area.for whatever you might be doing! Very happy with my purchase, I highly recommend!

not worth the price
I think 3 stars is generous. The smaller table when tightened with the screw underneath, is highly sloped. If you loosen the screw you can angle it straight BUT it is the lose and anything will fall from it. So you MUST keep it tight which means at a slight angle. I use a rubber grip pad for my phone but nothing else can go there. I bought the more expensive one for the solid base and the dual table but knowing this i would've opted for the cheaper version with a single table. If this were maybe only $90 it'd be worth it but for $150, it feels like i tossed away more money.

Nearly my full expectations.
I bought one for myself and one for my bedridden 96 year old husband. We both absolutely love our tables. My husband uses it for placing items he is using, snacks, newspapers, writing material, or, slanted, for books he is reading. As he has arthritis in his hands, this is a valuable asset. He uses the small side for drinks, his TV remote and his phone. Since he eats all his meals in bed, he is very pleased that it is a large surface, plenty of room for an entrée, soup or salad, dessert and coffee or tea, since our med aide comes in for a short time each mealtime, to prepare our meals, places all at once on the table and leaves. I use mine for my laptop and use the mouse on the small side. Both sides have a quarter inch lip all around to keep items from sliding off. This includes the laptop, with care. It lowers to a level I can type at although I would prefer it a little lower than it goes. as I am short I have enough room to turn my laptop around and move it to one side, level the table and have the meal placed along side without needing to remove the laptop. The table sits firmly. For my husband, the H shape foot fits nicely under the bed and the table is at a nice height over the bed. The material of the tables is non scratch and easy to clean. By putting the foot under the bed, it can be used just one way, depending on which side of the bed you are on. For me, I can turn the table either way, in front of my recliner, depending on which side I want the small table on. I agree with other comments that the one big flaw is the mechanisms for lifting/lowering, tilting, especially the difficult, screechy tightening bolt ( we have one like it outside for the water for the garden hose ) each and every time, several times a day I adjust the tilting as well as reach under for the small table screw. For an 89 year old woman with arthritic hands, this is a huge negative for me. I am surprised and a bit upset, that for the price and for such well built tables, made with excellent materials, they would resort to such obsolete attachments. Their engineers should be ashamed of themselves. Surely they can discover easier, more modern methods, because people who require hospital tables are not likely to have great strength. Nevertheless, we are both very pleased with our tables. They are so near to perfect to what I have been looking for I still give them a five. Good, split, tilt tables are not easy to find. I have been searching for quite a while. These will last for the rest of our lives. If the company ever succeeds in finding more suitable adjusters, maybe they will send me some. I do not hesitate to recommend these tables. We do love them.

Arrived with broken pieces
I am not a huge writer of reviews, however, this tray arrived with BOTH of the tray pieces broken. The packaging was very flimsy, and torn through in a couple of spots. The trays have lips that run around all edges to keep items from falling off (the table top tilts, so this is important). Both had the lip broken of in spots (the lip has a hard edge, so I cut myself, where it was broken). Also: the instructions are dificult to understand (and I am pretty good at assembly instructions). I am awaiting a replacement table, and will update the review after the new one arrives. UPDATE: So my GUARANTEED delivery of the replacement was for yesterday.....that didn't happen.

I purchased the this table because I was going to have surgery that was going to keep me on bed rest for six weeks. I was great to have the tilt option but don’t put a lot of heavy things on it or it will tilt when you don’t want it too. I didn’t like the way the height adjustment works. It’s not like the one at the hospital where you would press a button and it would slide up and down easily. Overall it served its purpose.

Flimsy, unstable, dangerous.
This is NOT hospital quality. The smaller table is unstable and loose (I bought two) both are identically flimsy. If you put anything over eight pounds on the surface you risk having the table flip. DO NOT put your expensive laptop or cellphone on this thing it could very well fall to the ground and get smashed. My smartphone fell off the smaller table part when it shifted and cost me $350 to replace the cracked screen
