Just need enough pressure
The media could not be loaded. In the video I’m using a thick canvas material and I just happen to have a press machine. If you don’t have one, I would suggest finding a nut of some sort that fits the diameter of your button. I found a plastic part from my sewing machine that is sturdier than the blue cap they give you, but it works as well. Then I would put it under the leg of your chair or couch and give it enough pressure to fit snuggly but not bend the metal. Another tip, if you use a thicker material than wet it first. This helps not only to make the fabric less stiff but also makes a suction sound when you press it that lets you know it’s good to go. Also hard to take apart again if you do it correctly, no glue necessary. *Cannot be used with leather. I tried chrome tan and pig skin, neither worked because there’s little give to the material.

You can do this!
It’s personally rewarding to be able to make custom fabric buttons without an expensive button press! The first was challenging but I revised my technique and have made 40 buttons out of upholstery fabric. The thinner the fabric, the easier it is! It helps to have short fingernails. I improvised and also used a tart tamper from my kitchen on top of the blue pusher and hit the end of the tamper HARD with the flat end of a meat mallet 3-4 times per button which works well! (A hammer or rubber mallet would also work) Make sure to use the blue pusher(in kit) to protect the button! Easy!

Needs more than fingers
Exactly what I ordered and arrived on time. These are great but count in needing another tool to push the bottom into the button. I couldn’t manage just using my fingers. Otherwise they look great!

Not Meant for Upholstery Fabric
I made 48 buttons with these using very thick, pre-treated upholstery fabric for two tufted ottomans I built, and it was a nightmare. I didn't know that these were only meant for thin fabric - my fault for not doing enough due diligence. However, with enough improvisation, as well as the liberal use of super glue and some additional tools (steel pipe, the bottom of a Sharpie paint pen, etc.), I was able to make the buttons look awesome. The undersides of my buttons didn't look great, but the tops do (and that's all that really matters). Plus, they held up to being pulled very tightly with mason's line all the way down into 2" of high-density foam and 3 layers of batting without coming apart (Did I mention that I used a lot of super glue?).

Easy to use
The kit is easy to use but I think it would be hard to press it together when using a thicker fabric. I was using it for a silk material so it was fairly easy, but pressing it after a lot of buttons made my fingers sore so I used a rubber mallet to help. It does flatten the button a tinsy bit though.

Good but...
I really really love this, I found this kit linked to a reupholstery blog. I'm redoing chairs and adding tufting, and this is such a easy way to do the buttons. HOWEVER, in the directions, it says if you are using sheer fabric, to add another fabric or backing to it. Mine is sheer enough that I can see a bit of the button shine through it, not terribly. So I doubled it up with interfacing (way too thick, what a joke) and then did it instead with doubling the sheer fabric, still no luck,. Either change the directions and omit that it can be done, or change the kit so that it allows for more fabric to be pressed into the mold. Thank you!

I'd buy these again and again!
Recommend for projects! They were easy to use and really add to an upholstery job. Best value for your money that I could find. Also liked the size.

Tricky but doable
Once you get the hang of it, and use some brute force, this works amazing! To be honest I used something to bang the button holder thingy together cause it was not working with the fabric I chose (even though it was not thick at all). Overall though, does what it says so I’m super happy.
