Great product!

This is a great product, but there are a couple design improvements needed. The pseudo- bolts at the bottom should be drilled or punched out to accept landscape border spikes as an anchor. The top needs an adhesive tape to hold it in place if you live in a wind prone area. The product does hold about 50# of sand.

Love it!

We just got this so I can report back later on the sturdiness of it but I absolutely love it so far and I filled it up with rocks so if it starts getting windy, it should stay right where it’s at. I like that you can use it as a little hiding spot! It looks so good and my dogs are both very curious about it!

I bolted it to a paver and move it around the yard. The puppies wee on it rather than the garden. Groovy

This worked perfect dogs used it as soon as it was placed.

The top comes off the fire hydrant so you can fill it with sand or rock. Dogs seem to know what it is for and used it as a pee pole.

Dog loves it and went to in right away

For the price, you might be asking for a dog pee pole? spot? Eh! It could be cheaper but I found this item as a return and knowing what it would be used for that is fine. Before anything put 3 coats of clear on it and then installed it and so far it is holding up just fine I also put tent stakes to hold it down and dirt to cover them up. Perfect size. Not too big or too small for a large dog.

Go ahead and get this version, assuming you will maintain it.

I was looking at this for the dog area. Like everybody else, I'm trying to get my dog to "mark" somewhere different than his favorite spot. You can get plastic versions for less money, or something that is basically made out of real, heavy-duty pipe fittings for hundreds of dollars more. This "in the middle" product is fine for what it is. It just has to look real from across the yard and survive the elements. If you inspect it closely, you will find that the metal is not real thick and the welding is rough and not particularly well done. You cannot notice any of that from a distance. It looks completely genuine out in the yard. I did carefully clean it (it arrives kind of filthy), got some clear coat spray paint and put several coats of that on it before I installed it in the dog run. I also dug a little hole a few inches deep where I wanted it to go and filled the hole under the base with gravel to promote drainage, then filled the entire inside of the hydrant with gravel to stabilize it and keep it from getting knocked over in the wind. I assume the (likely cheap) paint would not survive the elements and the "use" by the dogs very long otherwise. I imagine that with those extra steps it should survive outside a few years before I'll have to repaint it. I suspect that it would fall apart pretty rapidly if you allow the paint to start peeling. There is not a lot of metal there to loose any to rust. So yes, it is relatively cheaply made in China and the quality isn't amazing, but it is good enough that you can make it work with a trivial amount of additional work. It isn't going to fade and crack because it is made of plastic, so I think it was a good decision to spend a little more for a metal version. If you don't want to maintain this, you could get a cheap plastic one and replace it when it inevitably falls apart. But that seems unnecessarily wasteful to me. I'd rather just buy this and paint it every few years to keep it looking good.

It is ok but very expensive

I actually can't believe I paid what I did for that but I wanted my dogs to have a specific area to pee in. It is way over priced and a peice of tin. I would expect this to be price more in the $20-$40 range.

Looks really good

originally I purchased this for outside in my flowerbed. But upon receiving it I loved it so much it's now sitting by my fireplace which fits perfectly as I have red accents. Although not heavy, metal is not as thin as I thought it would be from the other reviews so I can put it outside but i would put it in a covered area so the sun doesn't fade the colours. I was on the fence buying this but so glad I did.

Very cute. A great decoration in our yard and our dog loves it

We needed something decorative in that spot since our dog kept killing the plants. So what better than a fire hydrant for him?! We put a clear coat rust protection on it and then filled it with gravel as it is hollow and very light.

I wished I didn't buy this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i wish I could give it less than one star because it doesn't deserve one. This item is made so cheap. The only thing going for it that it looks ok. i wish I could send it back and get my money back. We paid 120 + dollars for the item and shipping. to me this item is worth 30 dollars including shipping. I wouldn't recommend that anyone buy it for that price. This your typical Chinese crap. I don't recommend anyone buy this item. The biggest problem with this item is that it is so light and made with absolutely the cheapest materials possible. I am very disappointed in what we received for our money. a plastic one would probably of faired better in my review. the box it came in had a sticker on it that said two man lift. most of the weight was in the packaging. The whole thing may have weighed three pounds tops.
