It’s ok.
I used this to replace a light in a decorative lamp. As is often the case with LED lights…they don’t “spread the light” in the same way that incandescent bulbs do. So the color and functionality are exactly the same as the bulb system that I replaced. However, if you are looking for that warm glow that seems to “fill a house” (or building) in a Christmas village you might want to stick with incandescent. This just doesn’t create that warm “glow.” It creates a warm “color.” That being said….you get the warm color without the need to plug this in to anything else. Apparently it has the option to be remote controlled as well if you purchase something else to make it that way, the wires for this are in an annoying location and block the light, but if that is what you are looking for this is the way to go. Also, this does not heat up like incandescent bulbs do. The LED vs. incandescent debate is a personal choice for what each one of us is looking for in our lighting. As I am using this in a decorative lamp in a child’s room it is nice for me that it will turn itself off and it won’t heat up in the hours that it is on. So it’s an ok option for that, but it is long because the batteries are in the contraption that you put in the lamp/house/etc that you put it in. So for my lamp…it barely fits in height wise, but it really is fully hidden and I much prefer the push button on/off over the turning wheel on/off switch. I hope this helps someone out in their own debate “to purchase or not to purchase” this item.

It's great!!
It works great with my garland that I got. I can't wait to actually put it up since I got it on sale.

Battery Drainer
I love the ease of using them. I just wish they didn't drain the batteries so fast. I'm debating whether to order more because of the battery situation.

Prepare to spend a fortune on batteries.
I bought these lights for 8 of my Snow Village buildings. They work exactly as advertised. They resolve the problem of trying to hide your cords. They illuminate the buildings with plenty of light. I did have to adjust the position of a couple of them because the light glared a bit. No problem to move them. The reason I will be going back to the cords is battery life. I like to have my display lit when I am home. I turn them on in the morning and shut them off when I go to bed (they do automatically shut off after 9 hours but is no trouble to turn them back on). Using name brand Alkaline batteries, I get about 2 days out of the lights, which require 4 AAA batteries per unit. Reluctantly, I started delaying lighting them until about 1:00 PM and letting them shut themselves off after 9 hours. This bought me a third day. I even ordered very expensive lithium batteries. They really didn’t help at all. So if you do the math, I’m installing 32 batteries every 3 days. My display is very small compared to a lot of dedicated collectors. If you figure that I am using 32 batteries every three days from Thanksgiving weekend until January 2, that is around 384 batteries. At fifty cents per battery for the Alkaline, that is over $200 when you include sales tax. And I only get to light my buildings 9 hours a day. In reality, I found myself leaving the lights off for days at a time. The trade off for eliminating the cords was that they eliminated much of the pride and enjoyment I got out of my small display this year. I’ll just find a better way to hide my cords going forward.

Cord Eliminator
I have several lighted buildings that I display through Fall and Winter. Hiding the light cords was always a hassle until I found Dept 56 Display Anywhere Retrofit Lights. I now have several. They're wonderful for keeping the displays uncluttered (no distracting cords) and they're very easy to use. I only turn them on at dusk and off at bedtime (easily accessible button), so the 4 AAA batteries still have juice at the end of the season and I can reuse the batteries in other things.

Good but not great
I ordered several for my Dickens village and was really excited to get them. I recently moved my village into a permanent position in a china cabinet to avoid having to pack and unpack them every year. My only problem was finding a way to light them. This product seemed like a perfect solution. And it works... sort of. I received six of them and placed them in a few of the houses. I was careful not to let them run every night before Christmas, because I didn't want them to burn out before everyone arrived for the Christmas Day party. Auto Shut Off after 9 Hours - Yes, this worked. They shut off after 9 hours one night. They do not turn back on, so be prepared to click them all back on yourself when you are ready. (They aren't 9 on, 15 hours off - like some battery candles, for example.) Don't run them throughout the holidays if you want them to last. Even after only turning them on for 4 evenings and turning them off myself before the 9 hours were up on 3 of those nights, the lights were very dim by Christmas. It's a shame they don't last longer. They take 4 batteries each, that's 2 more than the holiday candles I bought, yet the holiday candles are still shining bright after glowing every night since the day after Thanksgiving. Basically, they are better than nothing. I tried not to compare them to using the electrical cords, because obviously, there is more power in a direct electrical connection. But even when compared to battery-operated candles, they don't hold up very well. It would be nice if they the glowed stronger and for much longer. (It would also be nice if they had an internal timer for shutting off AND turning on, but that's a recommendation and not a review of what is offered.) Note: The first three photos are from the first night I put the lights in the houses. The final one is from today (post Christmas). As you can see, they start off pretty bright. When I went to turn them off Christmas night, I could barely tell which one's had lights in them. Suggestion: To make up for the fading lights, I ordered little battery-operated fairy lights and placed them behind the village. That helped the village look beautiful for our Christmas party. You can see them in the final picture. Overall review, good but not great. The Dept. 56 villages are not cheap, and it would be nice to have a better battery-operated option for lighting them up.
