Bought 2 Brass Lamps, One Great, One Not but Amazon Quickly Resolved Problem--Would Buy Again

Purchased 2 brass lamps. The Good--First, I should admit I'm extremely picky about aesthetics. This lamp looks like it cost $200 or more. The look is traditional and timeless. The finish is a rubbed golden bronze that appears authentic to what you'd expect on an older lamp that's been well cared for. In other words, it doesn't look fake. The base is quite heavy so there's no worry about it rocking or tipping, even placed on our thick wool area rug laid over berber carpet. The shade is metal, too. No plastic anywhere, except the black switch at the top/side of the pole where it connects to the bar that connects it to the shade and the black cord which is plenty long--a good 4 feet or more. Another factor that eliminates rocking or tipping is there is room inside the base to loop excess cord before you feed feed it through the discreet half-circle hole in the bottom side of the base. You may need to tape the cord loops in place if the lamp is likely to be bumped a lot. (We have young grandchildren and have learned to anticipate these things. :-) Works with LED bulbs and incandescent. The lamp stands tall enough to put beside or behind an over-sized chair--a good reading lamp height of about 40+ inches. (check the specs for exact measurements). It is not dimmable. Assembly is a breeze unless . . . . The Bad--The second lamp was equally good looking but it had a small dent in the pole where it connects to the base. Not noticeable and I wouldn't have sent it back but whether the dent had anything to do with it or not, the pole would not tighten properly into the base but rather turned round and round. Either the pole leaned forward about 4 inches like a drunken sailor or the base rocked back and forth, no matter what we tried. And the base was locked to the pole. We could neither tighten them securely nor separate them. My husband is quite handy with assembling things and he was willing to go to the hardware store to correct the problem, but his to do list is endless this time of year and clearly the problem was more than just replacing a screw so I contacted Amazon and they are sending a replacement lamp at the lightning deal price we paid for it. When I explained we couldn't break the lamp down to fit in the box, Amazon was quite accommodating about accepting the returned faulty lamp in whatever protective covering we could provide, including garbage bags taped together. If the second lamp has problems I will update this review, but I'm not anticipating any. The conclusion--I highly recommend this lamp. I've looked at pharmacy lamps for a couple of years now and this is the first one that fits both my high expectations and love of a good bargain.

Great lamp

Love the lamp! It replaced a similar one that I had and am very pleased with it. It's exactly what I wanted It went together easily, the base is heavy and it feels very sturdy. The only thing I disliked was disposing of the styrofoam packing material that protected it as it was shipped from China.

Well worth the price

For the price this is a solid value. Not saying it’s a $400 lamp. But you could easily pay $150-200 for such a lamp of this quality. In my opinion you can pay much more than $69 and come away with an inferior product. Lights well, sturdy enough and stable.

Just right...

This lamp is easy to assemble, very sturdy, and looks more expensive than it is. It's a little lower than I'd have liked but is still fine as a reading lamp over our sofa. Only thing is, I wish they made reading lamps that took higher wattage than 60!

So, before you buy this lamp, make sure you have one of these adapter collars (the brass piece in the photo) to join the threaded nipple of the head assembly to the post. The head comes with a standard 3/8" diameter fine-thread nipple, but the post is threaded to accept a 1/2" coarse thread. The brass adapter is threaded inside to accept a 3/8" fine-thread, and is 1/2" coarse on the outer threads. It's a cheap part, and should have been installed by the manufacturer. They skimped and used two small dots of super glue to hold the head on. Guess what failed to do what the manufacturer hoped it would. To install the adapter piece, you will need to disassemble the switch connections by removing the finial on top of the switch housing. Make sure you mark the wires before taking them apart, so you know which pairs go back together. I used two colors of paper tape. A simple pair of crimpers or pliers is all you need to remove and reapply the wire nuts, and ONLY take apart the two wires that join the hot and return lines of the cord to the switch. Leave the third pair alone. You can identify it because it goes into and out of the switch itself. Or, you know, you could buy a lamp made by people who know what they are doing. And can we talk about packaging? Who still uses crumbly styrofoam? Cannot recommend this product and won't shop this company's merchandise again, unless they commit to sustainable packaging and proper assembly at the factory.

Beautiful gold lamp

I bought this to replace my old up light lamp. This one provides better lighting next to my family room chair. I wish it was taller, but it still works fine.

A little hard to put together and the shade is shaky

It was hard to put together because of the cord going through you’d be very careful not to break the cord and once it is put together entirely the shade is a little bit shaky just because of the distance between the connection

A nice floor lamp

Went together really easily. Worse comes to worse, read the instructions. I didn't have to, it was obvious. Yeah the styrofoam is a pain, but it's coming from China....long trip. Got there without a scratch, so that's the idea. Good product. I recon they can't make anything that nice for this price in the usa.
