Good for new colors and inspo, but not existing
What this is great for: "Oh I have a yellow pillow and I want to an paint an accent wall the same color." It is excellent for this! It makes quick work of drilling you down to three options you can go to Home Depot and consider for purchase. Saves you tons of time and guessing! What it is not great for: "I need touch up paint for the rental house I just moved into." Nope. Not happening. I scanned eight different walls/spots (all the same color) and got tons of different suggestions. Couldn't trust it AT ALL. I believe one of the flaws here, is that they do not have enough paint brands in their catalog AND the machine has a small space/hole on it where light is let in. Soooo, depending on the sunlight coming into the room, time of day, the shadow cast on the wall by a framed photo or big screen TV, or the sheen from the paint itself... it takes a different reading. Super bummed.

Nice little gadget!
This thing is seriously cool. I'm selling my house and need to buy the right shade of paint to patch up a couple marks on the walls. This reads the color and gives me the hex color code and the closet match from several paint brands.

Great tool for coordinating colors!
I purchased the ColorReader EZ to help me finally pick a color to remodel my home office. I wanted to repaint it for months but couldn’t decide on a color. The ColorReader EZ was amazing! I took a reading on my favorite painting and it gave me a great color recommendation. Looking forward to making future paint projects easier and more fun!

It even gets the paint brand correctly!
I just received this 30min ago and I was immediately blown away. Setup was super easy (iOS): Installed the App, Connect, Scan. The device doesn’t look like much: It reminds me of an advertising flashlight LED key chain. As soon as it was ready I turned to the first pained surface nearby. I happen to have painted my kitchen walls about one year ago so I tested this on 2 walls. The result came up with the name and also the brand. I knew the brand was right but I wasn’t sure about the color names... so I went down to the garage to find the leftover cans and they were both correct! I was expecting the color match but i didn’t expected it to get the brand too. After this I am very confident I’ll be able to match the paint in another room. I’ll update this once I find out. Update : Used this device to match a yellowish brown paint for touch-up over patched dents. My first attempt at "manually" matching using the palette samples was way off: Too dark. Second attempt using this device was mostly a success: The scanned color was called "green xxx" and I frankly would have never guessed it was a green. I came back with the paint in much doubt it was a match. I applied the new pain over the patches and waited for it to dry and was pretty good. Is it perfect? No. The new paint is noticeably darker than the old paint. But I think it's my fault: I used this device to scan the old paint in multiple places in the room to get an "average". But instead of following up on a good idea, ended up picking one of the darkest samples for the new paint. In retrospect, I should have made an extra trip to the paint store to pick the palette samples for each of the scans and select the best match before actually buying the paint on a "hunch" that the correct sample was the darkest one. But it's really close enough not to be worth redoing it. So overall, I'm quite satisfied.

Very nifty device.. Takes the guess work out of color matching
The media could not be loaded. 4/5 Rating I'll be honest.. I used DataColor devices before and I wasn't exactly pleased. I'm a photographer and I used the Spyder 5 Color Calibrator and I was not impressed. In learning more about photography you realize color plays a very integral part to the entire equation. I realized that I was not very good at color management and color theory. Also, Youtube does not make this easy as I've researched. In come this device. I think the premise of it is phenomenal. It's actually pretty simple to use. It's not that difficult at all. You charge, connect to your phone, update the software and you're off to the races. You place over the fabric, color palate, or color sheet and press the button on top and within a second or two later you will have a color result listed on your DataColor software. Pros Easy to use out the box So far it's pretty accurate Cons None so far It would be nice to expand the color palate

Good for applications where getting into the ballpark is good enough.
I had to do touch up work on a home with like 12 different wall and trim covers and sheens. This scanner will get you in the ballpark, however if you want a more precise match, cut a small square from each wall and take it to the paint store. They will use a higher resolution scanner and give you a closer shade to your wall, which probably faded over time from the original color.

Disappointed I’m on my second one….. and my last! Save your money
I’m a professional painter and when I discovered this device I was amazed. It saved me a lot of time and visits to the job site or paint store. No more need to compare swatches/ fandecks or bringing samples to the paint store to match AWESOME! The device never really picked the exact color for me but aged paint wouldn’t. Never the less it always came up close enough and only ever had one complaint matching a color with one of those customers that knows exactly what was there and you still could never get away with touch ups as usual. As far as the device itself after some time of use it failed to calibrate. Customer service seemed great and very helpful but after a bunch of back and forth Data Color would not replace it. I loved it so much I purchased one through Amazon as my local paint store could get there hands one one. My second one I only used a couple times and gues what? ITS FAILING TO CALIBRATE!!! I informed the company and right now we are in the back and forth thing with their suggestions. I thought the product was great but I’m not spending $130 every few months. I’m going back to old school the way we did it before this product until I find a device that can hold up to normal use or find a company with a great device they are willing to stand by or replace if it’s failing. I know I can’t be the only one with this issue. Save your money and get a fan deck until they stand behind their product enough to replace it when it fails

Uses old colour chips not updated to recent colour decks
This tool uses what appears to use colour references from companies not related to the actual paint that is on the wall. For example Benjamin Moore OC17 comes up as a totally different colour and references a different company. Other colours are from old decks that are no longer available even though the paint is actually from recent decks applied very recently. Lastly, multiple colours are suggested even when readings are taken within inches of each other. Good idea but they need to work on accuracy.

Not accurate
Not at all accurate. When tested four times on the same smooth flat wall all within 100mm it returned 4 different results. Battery lost 15% power in first 10 minutes of use.

Limited value to assess paint in UK
I bought it to measure the colour values of a range of picturebframing materials which it did fine. I thought it a shame that the ranges of paint manufacturers recognised was quite limited excluding many popular brands in the UK- Dulux, Crown and others while Farrow and Ball were the only one I recognised. Otherwise I would have given 5 stars.

Don't waste your money
Complete waste of money. Does not scan the correct colour. I needed this for a wall that I lost the paint swatch for and wasn't coming close. I had paint swatches for other walls in my house and scanned those and not even close getting the correct colour. Unfortunately I didn't use this product right away after receiving it and my window closed, so I can no longer return this. Save your money.

Limited function and access to paints sold in UK.
There is a choice of Europe or US registration and paints shown are very limited in the UK. To get direct access to certain brands fan decks, a different licensed version will be necessary. The device does feel a bit locked down due to licensing agreements but scanning does work well and data can be taken and used in a browser for in-depth colour research.
