Makes perfect toast
My previous Cuisinart toaster lasted 14 years and 10 months (I still had the receipt!). So why would I purchase anything else? This new toaster is attractive, easy to use, and smudges wipe off with ease. Best of all, it toasts perfectly. I adjust the brownness dial a bit depending on the thickness of the bread and it's always just right.

Not The Choice for large/fat Bagels
Yes the slots are 1.5" at the top as stated but you lose 1/4-1/2" of that inside due to the rungs which stick out to hold the food. My large bagel (I was toasting 1/2 of it) got stuck in those rungs and was very hard to get out - it was squashed by the time I managed that. Also athough the slot was long enough for the bagel, the depth was not deep enough for the entire bagel to fit. The one edge sticking up out of the top did not get toasted. So if you like large bagels, this is not the right toaster. And check it out before the 30 days expire!!

meh
This looks like what a toaster should look like. Simple. A lever, a knob, openings in the top. A casing. The lever stopped working after a year or so. It toasted OK, just bread and I am not too fussy about perfect coloration front and back since I will be eating it immediately, not serving it to the Queen or framing it. I like it dark so I am used to having to send it down a second time and pay attention. But I expected more than one year from this; I have probably not even toasted more than 50 slices. And I keep it cleaned. I am the only user and I am nice to my things. Moreover, the "stainless" is anything but. It is cheap and stains and smells of rust when I run a damp sponge over it. Even my Energy Star GE Microwave of recent vintage is made of the same cheap metal they are now calling "stainless." Blatant lie. I have purchased, in about one month, 3 different brands (KitchenAid, GE, and Oster) and all 3 have been returned for having a dead lever. Reading the various reviews, it would seem this is a minor game in the corporate life—produce these little tin boxes and if some stay sold—fine. Doesn't matter what the brand is, they seem to all have their working parts made in the same indifferent factory— in China. I live on the edge of the planet. Our local Lowes had toasters online so I went there today to try one out IN PERSON to be sure it worked. (Why not do that in the first place? I have painful arthritis and the appliances are a block from the entry.) Guess what. They don't actually STOCK them. Waste of shelf space, I suppose. The nearest really BIG Lowes or Home Depot or the like is 45-60 minutes away and I bet they don't bother with them either. Walmart is not on my list of trusted sources for Important Purchases. So it's back to the Amazon lottery. There is no other way since I refuse to travel that distance to buy a toaster—and not be sure of finding one in the first place. How do all those other folks get the good toasters they rate over 4 stars?

Still holding my breath
This is the first toaster in over three decades that seems to work as it should. Hoping this continues. For now, it's a veritable celebration when bread pops up toasted as expected.

Nice basic toaster - works easily
I like the simplicity of this toaster. It toasts perfectly on setting #2. I like that it has a bagel function and is also easy to clean.

Does a credible job
This is an inexpensive home use toaster. It does feel a bit flimsy compared to the last one. It toasts the bread fairly evenly. It has several buttons on it, but probably the only one I'll ever use is the bottom cancel to hurry things along. It doesn't do bagels as well as I think it should, but there is an easy fix, push the handle down and cook them a little more - no big deal. Will it survive for more then 2-3 years. Not a clue, but these foreign made appliances are so inexpensive, I'll just throw it away and buy another. Those who expect rocket science on a toaster need a real world wake up call - there are some heating elements and an adjustable thermostat inside of a metal and plastic housing. UPDATE OK - now on March 30, 2014 this toaster is ready to be replaced, and about 4 months into its used occasionally life. Like said above, how difficult, even in China, is it to install a set of heat elements and a thermostat in a housing and expect them to last 3-4 years. This one really lasted about a month before 'going South'. Bagels I expect a couple times down to toast though, but toast - usually takes 2x down at the highest setting to even start browning. English muffins 2X or 3X. I did frozen waffles this morning, 3X down and they were still barely warm. Yeah, it does both sides evenly, but I really HATE getting old watching a toaster try to do its simple job. Even the ten buck Wally World clunker in the RV does a better job and has for over 5 years. Find something else if you really want something toasted within a reasonable time period.

Excellent relative to other toasters
I have a bit more time on my hands these days and since there seem to be a lot more fake reviews on Amazon recently I’ve decided to go back and review the items I’ve bought. I will include photos where I can and will only review items I still have or of which I have a strong recollection. I am neither getting paid nor getting anything free or at a discounted price. Why is it so hard to find a decent toaster??? It's one of the great mysteries of life. I think I've gone through at least 3 in the last 5 years or so, and expensive ones don't necessarily mean "better". So take the stars I've awarded with a grain of salt. This toaster is good relative to others I've had. why? It toasts "kinda" evenly and the temp controls are "relatively" accurate. The things I do like about it are that the bagel and defrost settings can be pressed simultaneously, which isn't always the case with other toasters, and it's consistent so once you find a setting that works, you don't have to fiddle with it. Overall a good value and I'm sticking with this one until it goes bust.
