If it Vibrated I Would be Divorced
My wife loves this thing and for that reason so did I. Seeing the pure joy in her eyes was rivaled only by things like our wedding day and our children's births. As time has gone by though I'm beginning to suspect that she loves it more than she loves me. She spends all her time with it and when she's not using it she's talking about it. She's taken to snuggling it in bed and when I came home from work the other day it was sitting in my chair at the dinner table. My children call it Daddy. I was getting tired of it and tried to confront it but my dog started snarling at me. It's too late for me but you've been warned: this machine is a homewrecker.

Best purchase I've ever made! The things you can make from home with this machine will save you time and money, and maybe more!
If you have any interest in arts and crafts, this is the machine for you! I've only had my machine for a few short days, but I've already made my first few projects and know that I'll be making them with very little in the way of training. The first project is laid out with simple online instructions and took only a few minutes to complete. Once you see how easy it is to make that project, you'll be amazed at just how impressive the results can be. More importantly, you'll be given a tour of the entire process, from setting up the machine to installing the software with easy instructions and with video's directly from YouTube. There is absolutely nothing difficult about taking this machine out and beginning to use it for whatever crafting projects you have in mind. I myself got the bug from having spent a few days watching a friend working from his shop where he creates all sorts of items that this machine creates with ease, from vinyl signs, Decals made from vinyl or Sticker paper, custom business cards or Birthday cards, anything you can come up with in a print shop can be made from your own home and at a fraction of the price of one made in a professional shop. Honestly, this machine can replace your needs for any local shop, unless the dimensions are your main concern, and even in most of those cases, you can still make your own vinyl signs and decals, you'll simply have to limit the size to the available dimensions of the machine, or you'll need to paste together larger pieces on your own. This simply means that instead of having a two foot tall logo that's ten foot long, you would need to make one foot tall segments that can be two foot long each, and simply line them up to create your own sign. Most shops that advertise with vinyl signs don't use letters larger than one square foot anyway, so you'd just be making each square as an individual letter and then line them up yourself, instead of stretching one long strip to make your sign. The work isn't significantly different, so why pay multiples of the price of this machine for one sign, when you can buy the machine and make all the signs you want from that point forward? Then when you consider that this machine can work in tons of different materials, ranging from paper to vinyl, leather to copper, there really aren't many limits to what you can make with this machine. With a little time and some minimal effort, you'll be making arts and crafts projects that you can give to your friends and family, and sell at any yard sale or flea market within days of arriving at your house. The best part of all is that this machine is tiny. It's footprint is so small that I have mine setup on a tiny table that was no longer needed in my living room. I simply placed a towel over the table to prevent it from being scratched, and I was set. I'm just now learning how to make more creative designs like custom boxes and bows, but with no time I'll be making those with ease. My only advice is that if you decide to buy one of these amazing machines, make sure you get everything you'll need to explore your own creativity. Make sure to buy all the add-ons, things like the deep cut blade, the paper crafting tools, the basic crafting tools and the scoring stylus and a set of the color pens for your own messages. From there, buy some quality paper card stock, Oracal 651 vinyl in all the best colors for simple designs or for more intricate designs, making sure to buy all the popular colors such as your primary colors, but also metallic colors such as gold or chrome, get lots of black and white as you'll be using those the most, and without fail, but transfer tape, lots of transfer tape, because having yard after yard of vinyl will do you no good if you can't actually place it on something, so transfer tape is equally important to your needs. Buy more transfer tape/paper than vinyl, because you'll almost always need transfer tape that hangs over the edges of your vinyl cutouts so that you can layer different colors or have the vinyl decal hold in place so that you can align it to whatever your placing it on. Buy a good exacto blade knife, your going to be using it constantly if you decide vinyl crafting is for you. I'd recommend you purchase a good cutting device, whether that be a guillotine style cutter or rotary cutter, make sure you buy one large enough for your vinyl or paper needs, so it will need to be at least one foot wide and long enough to cut lengths of a foot accurately. Some of those cutters don't come with a space long enough to cut squares of one foot so make sure you chose one with either an extension that will let you measure one square foot, or you'll be guessing beyond the length of the cutting device itself, or you'll need to mark the vinyl somehow and that will end up just eating up your time. From that point, you can decide if you need specialty materials, things like faux leather, copper foil that's normally found in rolls but also comes in sheets for use with the scoring tool to make beautiful embossed pieces, heat transfer vinyl that comes in several glittery colors or regular colors for making iron on designs that can go on everything from pants or shirts, to caps or other clothing items. They offer magnetic sheets that you can use to make magnetic business cards or decals, printable sticker paper, heat transfer jewels (bedazzle style gemstones), or any other material you wouldn't imagine needing but will find out once you've installed the software on your pc or phone, and are able to browse the online design shop. Whether your just an everyday tinkerer that needs something to fill your time, or you want to create your own small business out of your living room, this machine is well worth your time and money! Best of all, you don't have to take my word for it, just go on YouTube and research Cricut projects and you'll get a sampling of exactly what you'll be able to make with this amazing machine!

Great, with some serious possible deal-breaker issues fundamental to the Cricut brand.
The Cricut Explorer Air 2 is an excellent piece of hardware for the money. The extra speed of the Air 2 vs the original Explorer doesn't seem to come with a compromise to the quality of the cut. The machine's biggest flaw I've run into is the software. When you are still new to the Cricut or new to crafting in general the Cricut seems like a dream come true. Once you've gotten very skilled with using the machine the software is a hurdle. Design Space is a joke. Because they didn't want to invest in software instead of the web control site they built instead, even with 16GB of DDR4 memory the design space software hits the browser's RAM limit and crashes all the time, losing all your work. It does not have an auto-save feature to help with this either. Uploading: Design space makes importing images a chore, being over simplified there are not enough tools and options to completely process a single image into different pieces for layers. Also if you don't do it all during upload, getting it done within design space will add on 3x the effort to just get a clean image you can work with. If you have a graphic that will need to be disassembled into pieces for assembly in design space, you have to upload the image multiple times and manually pull out all the details from each piece, saving them as separate uploads and then inserting them into a single project. Design Space: -Once you've gotten past the upload issues, you're in a design space window ready to create. Design space loves to eat RAM. So much so that if your design is complex, the browser will crash or lock up. If these two things don't happen, great. Lucky you. -Depending on the browser you're using the software will scale images differently on the output getting cut on the mat. So even though you've made super precise designs that all have to fit together just so...your cut is going to be in a different place on the mat that you chose, or the design is not to scale making it useless. Since there is no compensation for this in Design Space, you end up doing a lot of costly trial and error to adjust for the difference in scale. Chrome works best, IE is the worst, Safari isn't much better. -YOU CANNOT EXPORT ANYTHING. NOTHING. Everything you design belongs to Cricut and is locked into Design Space. If you want to design something in Design Space, then export that for sending to say, a t-shirt shop because you initially were going to make everyone's shirts yourself, but found that it would be too large a job or inefficient on costs...too bad. You're going to do it on the Cricut, or you're not going to do it with Cricut at all. -There are too few tools for creating free form shapes. I have been trying and trying to use what's there to make a simple shape for a vinyl side stripe for my car.. forget it. The shapes are too generic, and unlocking the L and W dimensions only let's you drag a shape out in ways that won't allow you to change an angle of a curve to make a custom shape..you can work around it with a lot, a LOT of patience and time but will have to settle for simple shapes if you don't have a pre-made vector graphic to upload. Cutting Mats: The cutting mats are really cool the way the grid more or less matches with the grid on the screen in Design Space. That said, they lose their sticky very fast for the price tag. If you're using these mats, you'd better keep that clear plastic shipping cover they all come with and stick it back on after every use. I have one mat that I kept the clear sheet on it and one that I did not...the difference is night and day. I've watched videos on how to restore the tackiness of the surface of the mat but it hasn't returned to its original tack, causing anything with a curl to peel up constantly. (like vynil from a roll..a staple of this machine's worth). You're going to need two mats minimum, one standard stick, and one light stick. (Green mat, and light blue mat). Card stock will come apart trying to use a standard stick mat, but peels off excellent on the light stick mat. Vynil on the other hand usually has a curl and needs the standard stick. Overall: This machine is still great, but the longer I use it the more I wish I had bought something that allows you to create things that don't have a Cricut logo on them. This machine is entirely focused on getting you into the Cricut ecosystem, having you subscribe to "Cricut Access", and pushing you into buying Cricut accessories. I have not bought any cartridges, they seem like a throwback to the older machines, pre-Explorer. The cartridges seem like a waste of money, you get some of what you'll actually like and use...and the rest, like an album CD from a singles artist, is junk you'll likely not ever use. Everything that's in the cartridges are available al-la-carte in Design Space allowing you to buy them based on your project need individually..although the prices are stupid expensive for what they are generally. $5.00 for a single font choice. $10 for a project component. If you're not a designer, if you're not THAT serious about crafting and eating from Cricut's hand for content is fine for you, the Cricut is going to be amazing. If you are more skilled than beginner or have become skilled while using the Cricut and are getting more and more advanced, the Cricut begins to lose it's luster. I've spent hours and hours daily on this device with the Design Space software. I've gone through learning from dozens of hours worth of online tutorials and youtube how-to's.. I've bought hundreds in materials and have dozens of active projects, I am an avid user. Take that for what it's worth, I've beat this thing up and here's what I have found. Hopefully this helps someone else before they buy.

Im excited
Im so excited to use it. The only thing wrong with it was the mat that came with it. It’s super dirty felt like it was used.

Live altering cutting abilities!
This is an amazing cutting machine. I struggle with cutting out shapes and this is a game changer. It will cut shapes with intricate details with ease. It is designed for paper, stickers and other thinner items.

Easy to use
I can honestly say this is one of the best things I’ve ever purchased. I love the cricut so much and everything it has to offer. You can do so much with just a few add on items that you do have to buy but it is so worth it.

Well worth the investment, it’s almost unlimited in what you can use it for
NOTE: If you don't feel like reading my story of a review, scroll to the bottom where I tried to sum up everything in point form, I also included a few tips that I learned as well. I had never heard of this product before one of my co-workers purchased one and told me about it. Needless to say, I was intrigued, and within a few weeks I had one on order and was waiting in gleeful anticipation for it to arrive. As usual, it arrived ahead of schedule and within moments of picking it up, I had it unpackaged and ready to go. So this isn't the cheapest of items, but even for this price point, I was impressed with the build quality. Everything was well thought out and intuitive to use. It took moments to set up and it wasn't long before I was ready to start my own projects. The model I bought came with the basics, A fine point blade, Standard grip mat, USB cable, manual and a few pieces of cardstock to complete the tutorial. (I do suggest doing the tutorial as it helps you wrap your head around how things work). Everything you would need to start to get started. My main reason for purchasing the Cricut was for creating my own vinyl, which I had to order separate, but the more I use it the more I think of different ideas I can make with it. It is almost mind-boggling the number of uses this Cricut machine has. From labels to stickers, to birthday cards to t-shirts. You are essentially limited by your own imagination and availability of materials. Plus there is a huge online community of already created projects that you can load in and create. One of the first official projects that I created was a custom vinyl sticker. It was fairly intricate and I wanted to test out how fine of detail it was able to do. Once I loaded the design into the online design space, I sent it to the Cricut and within moments I was staring in awe as the machine churned away, cutting out the pattern I had set up. Once it was done I took a closer look and was shocked at how fine of detail it was able to reproduce. My only complaint with this machine is perhaps the software and its footprint. In general, the software works quite well and having both desktop and mobile versions are pretty awesome, but it is not nearly as intuitive as it could be. A few things you either discover through trial and error or through online Youtube videos. There is a fairly large tutorial section with the software and online, and I would suggest watching a few videos before attempting any projects. That is unless you like wasting materials. It needs a lot of space, both front, and back. The mat runs through the machine and out the back so the standard 12"x 12" mat needs close to 3 feet in space to run everything comfortably. Just be aware of the space needed before your purchase one. So to sum everything up… This machine is awesome! It carries a fairly hefty price tag, but the amount of uses you get from it, and what it is capable of doing is extraordinary. I seem to discover new things it can do pretty much every day. Basic and templated projects are easy to create, custom gets a bit more complicated, but once you understand it it's fairly easy as well. All in all, If you are on the fence about getting one, then I say jump off and order it, you won't be disappointed. Summary: Pro: • Well built, designed, and easy to use • A huge array of accessories that allows you to create pretty much whatever you can think of • Unlimited in potential on what you can create • Works with a large number of materials • A huge online community of projects at your disposal Cons: • The software can be quite confusing at first • It needs a lot of space to work. So if you are limited on room, beware before buying it. • Materials can get costly as you'll want everything! • The initial cost of the machine is pretty expensive, but it's definitely worth it Tips: THE STANDARD MAT: One of the first things I tried doing was cutting out a shape on regular paper… worked fine, the only problem is the standard grip mat is pretty darn sticky. Trying to separate the paper from the mat became almost impossible and ended up tearing it and picking tiny pieces off one at a time. SPACE: At first, I treated it like a printer. Set it somewhere with lots of room at the front. I quickly realized that the mat gets pulled through the machine and out the back. So make sure you have enough space at both the front and rear of the machine before you start WEEDING: For those that don't know, it's removing the unwanted pieces from the vinyl/sticker/cardstock etc. Cricut sells weeding tools, but I found you can find much better tools for cheaper elsewhere. However, you DO need something, especially if you plan on creating detailed pieces SOFTWARE: I'd highly suggest watching some tutorials before attempting to make anything. There are certain things that don't seem obvious at first that make a huge difference in your projects. Especially for the print than cut feature.

LOVE LOVE this machine
LOVE LOVE this machine! I am not sure how I ever lived without a die cutter. It takes a lot of different materials. I have even cut thin balsa wood (but not with a lot of detail). I am still testing out various materials. Very good detail in general. You can get super clean details, depending on the material you use. Very easy learning curve, plus plenty of videos from the company and youtube in general. The software is online which has pros and cons of course - this may be a deal breaker for some with poor internet connections. They just changed their "design space" software in the last couple of weeks (May 2017). The loss of flash has really helped with the speed and files! I made some complex print and cut pages that just wouldn't load in the old program - very upsetting, but am able to open these now. I researched all the machines and I do think this is one of the best on the market for your home. They figure out all the cuts for you and once you understand it, you can customize the pressure and blades. Personally I think the machine should come with all the basic tools you need, so you do have to purchase tools and of course papers. Cricut offers this from their site, but the machine was just a better price on Amazon than anywhere else. If you order supplies from Cricut - they have some good deals and sales, even in Canadian prices. They have great customer support. When I first began, I had a really long chat with one rep that helped orient me. Above all, you can import your own designs - which is a HUGE bonus for me - that was a deal breaker. With the comparable Silhouette, you had to purchase more to get that feature. But, the Silhouette has a program that is on your computer and thus no restrictions with the print feature as far as I am aware. I did purchase the Cricut $100 annual circuit membership that gives you access to large variety of resources. But, I work in Illustrator, so I am always looking at ways to figure out my own designs. Having templates help you understand the whole process. I would suggest getting that membership for the first year. You get to try it out for two weeks and can decide. I make my own stencils out of acetate, so I can also emboss with my Sissex (I didn't buy the Cricut Cuttlebug, because I got a great deal (50% day) at Michaels on the Bigkick at half price - $65 Canadian - wow!) But it is nice to have cutting AND embossing. Overall, I love all the things you can do and all the resources they have - it gives you more ideas. Great company thus far! My only complaint is with the print and cut for sticker paper and the like, because you are limited to browser dimensions. This waists a lot of the 8.5x11 sheet with the registration marks and the part of the page that can't print. You just can't maximize an 8.5x11 page (and this paper is expensive). I hope they change it one day soon by using pdf on the fly. Programming is complex, I understand that, but they could find a workaround here. FYI print dimensions: Chrome: 5.5" x 8" (Don't use Chrome for this feature, because you loose half an inch) Firefox: 6" x 8.5" Internet Explorer: 6" x 8.5" Safari: 6" x 8.5" You can, however, use the software (flatten), to maximizes the space you have. There are no limitations to the cuts and you can get bigger mats to exceed the 12x12 size. Overall a great machine. Hope this helps with your decisions!

works very well for the price
I have used larger plotters years ago, and wanted to get something for my limited space. for the price it works great. there is lots of information on tips and tricks online as well to help those with the learning curve. you will have better results using decent vinyl( doesnt need to be Cricut vinyl ) than stuff from dollar tree, but if you are in a pinch and have some patience you can get the cheaper vinyl to work for most cases.
