HELP, NEED ADVICE! This DOES NOT work for cats. They are built too differently, so I need advice if you have it please!
This does NOT WORK FOR CATS!! The arms and legs of cats and dogs are just too different for them to be able to fit into the same kind of outfit with the same kind of arm and leg holes. Cats have, I don't know how to describe it, a kind of high "knee" bone on their hind legs that moves forward, not backward like it does corndogs. So they move and bend differently than dogs. If you've see cats and dogs scratch their selves or walk or move you'll know what I mean. The front legs fit just "ok" but the hind legs were a mess. We kept trying to get the hole to stay above that "knee" joint but it wouldn't therefore the cat couldn't walk or scratch or clean itself. It was almost as aggravating to me as it was to her to try and get it to fit. There was just no way. FYI, We did have the short sleeve version not long sleeve. It's too bad because it would be a great idea. I've tried other cat suits, the thunder suit, the camouflage suit (I'm sure you seen it when looking for this one, it's not cheap and camouflage is the only color/design it comes in and there's been a few others we've tried. You can't understand how desperate I am to get my poor Baby out of a cone. She was a stray when we took her in and she had the worst case of mites of his does NOT WORK FOR CATS!! She had mites as a kitten but after they were gone she wouldn't leave alone the boo boos. Just kept trying to scratch them off. So when we got her the cone, (Another whole very long story finding the best and most comfortable on). Being not as graceful with it she fell out of or back yard tree from pretty high and the vet believed she may have broken her pelvic bone. But without an exray they couldn't tell for sure. Being on disability an a very tight and fixed income we couldn't afford it. Besides the only cure is keeping them from doing anything; not letting them jump at all or walk too much for about 3months then having another ckup to see how they are doing. Anyway, Baby started chewing and licking both of the tops sides of her back legs. Tearing into them. Absolutely no cone worked. She's an Olympian contortionist and Now frantic. My poor Baby has been living in a cone for over 95% of her life. Almost 2years now and we are both at the end of the rope here. This covered those spots and would have been perfect if not for the leg holes. I thought about cutting it but then there's no way I could sell it if it didn't work. In the past year I've spent over $500 I didn't have on every med I could find, body suit, cones. You name it I've tried it. I'm broke and have run out of ideas. If anyone has any other idea besides to put her down (which I've had 3 people tell me to do because I'm cruel to make her wear a cone for the rest of her life OR I should give her to a family that can love and afford to take better care of her than I can and I'm very selfish not to let her go). Please, please, I beg you...don't comment if that's what you want to say. You can't make me feel any guiltier than I already do. I do love Baby,(that is her name) and I spend every dollar I can find by squeezing every part of my budget as I can for every penny I can to pay for getting her help. I don't know if this was something I could have returned but I waited too long if it was trying to see if she might get used to it. But like I said, the holes for this are just not meant for cats. I bet this works really great on a dog. I'd even recommend it for a dog! IF your dog chews its hind quarters because of hot spots, or possibly pain, which my vet thinks is why baby started chewing on hers, I guess this is not unusual. this is the perfect thing to help them stop. With all the different colors and sizes you shouldn't have any problems finding the one for your dog. It's very nicely made. I do agree with others abt the neck part being tight. I stretched mine out quite a bit by putting it over the top of one of my new boots. Or some suggested, just cut a small straight line where under the neck would be. It will make it a v-neck and less difficult to get it on and off of your pup or dog. If you buy this I sure hope it works for you...but if you have a cat, I'm sorry, I can't recommend it. The best I had found for cats was that camouflage one, you'll see it advertised around. But if your kitty has hit spots torches their bk hind quarters like mine did, it won't be long enough or built the way it needs to be to cover them and prevent them from being flicked or opened. Not even the undershirt worked for that. We adopted Baby as a kitten and she had the worst case of mites I've ever had to deal with. She scratched and scratched her ears and the top part of her face till it looked like chopped hamburger. It was the worst thing I've ever seen on one of my own kittens. But even after getting the necessary meds and after they were gone she wouldn't leave alone the "boo boos" left over on the left cheek under ear. Just kept trying to scratch them off because she knew they weren't supposed to be there. So then we got her the cone, (Another whole very long adventure, finding the best and most comfortable on). Being not as graceful with it on, she fell out of our back yard tree from a pretty high height and the vet believed she probably had broken her pelvic bone. But without an xray they couldn't tell for sure. Being on disability with a very tight/fixed income we couldn't afford it. Especially since we'd just finished getting all her shots and having her fixed. Besides, the vet said there was no way to put a cast on that part of a cats body and the best and only "cure" is keeping them quiet; not letting them jump at all or walk too much for about 3 months then having another ckup to see how they are doing. For the first few days with pain killers she mostly slept. After that....use your imagination!!! Anyway, Baby started chewing and licking both of the tops sides of her hind quarters. Tearing into them. It was horrible and she still had on the cone for her face. But for the hind quarters; Absolutely no cone worked!!! She's an Olympian contortionist. She was frantic and now I was frantic and beyond worried. My poor Baby has been living in a cone for over 95% of her life. Almost 2 years now and we are both at the end of the rope here. Great product to give your dog a "cone of shame" break after ACL -orthopedic- surgery
I am writing this review for our pup Jake that recently had orthopedic surgery on his back leg for a torn ACL (ccl repair). The TTA surgery we had shapes the bone and inserts a titanium plate. Keeping the incision area clean and completely dry is imperative to avoid infection. Worst case scenario - an infected incision could lead to amputation of the leg - ugh! Enter the dreaded "cone of shame" 24/7 for 2 weeks! Every pup owner knows what a horror the cone can be so I looked for an alternative. Unfortunately, there is nothing as good as the darn cone but this Cover Me is a great addition to have to give your dog a "cone break" under supervision only. Jake is a 110 lb. docile Labrador. He is a true couch potato. He is not an excessive "licker" so this item fits his personality perfectly. It covers the leg that had surgery well so he can't get to the incision area. However, he still can lick the material and if not stopped, it will become wet. That's why I said we use this under supervision. We stop him from licking and all is good. If you have a dog that stops at nothing to get what he wants, this product will just not work, nothing but the cone will. So, you just have to know your dog's behavior. I recommend the step-in version of this for ease of putting on. The item opens flat so you can put it on around your dog which has been a great help for us since we have to be extra careful with his affected leg. The Cover Me is made extremely well. The material is soft and breathable. The snaps appear to be strong (only time will tell for sure). The size is true. Jake has a large neck and chest and the xxl fits him well. Other reviewers have said that the item shrinks after washing. I've had to wash the item 3 times due to mud. It did not shrink. I only leave our laundry in the dryer until it feels dry, not hot, so this could be the reason, can't say for sure. I like the flexibility of long sleeves as well. You can roll them up to make short, they do stay up, or leave them down to cover the entire leg. The Cover Me reminds me of a "onesie". As Jake turns, the Cover Me turns with him so readjusting it is needed. If you happen to be lucky and your Cover Me fits snuggly, this probably won't happen. It does have adjusting snaps on the sides which help. It has a roll up flap that snaps up allowing Jake to piddle and the back is open to do the rest. If your dog's incision is on their belly, this flap rolls back down and can snap into place. We leave ours rolled up and it does stay snapped up pretty well. One bad night of tossing and turning did bring the flap down. My only complaint is that I wish we could take the flap off all together but since it's stitched on one side, we can't. One great perk of the item, it acts just like a Thunder Shirt for Jake. As soon as we put it on him he calms down. So, it is a well made product and true to size. I don't think this should be used as a cone alternative after TTA surgery but it does give great coverage when giving a "cone" break.
