Great smoker - until it's time to clean up
My actual experience with this device was right on par with the advertising materials and reviews. Except that nobody happened to mention how difficult and time consuming it is to clean it out after each use. That glass window sure is nice while it's clean and pristine, but after you're done you need to spend 2 - 3 hours cleaning it out with water and detergents. The smoke residue is everywhere (proving, I guess, that the smoker is indeed effective), but that wonderful window will be a waste of money otherwise, so if you gotta have it, be prepared to spend as much time cleaning (or more) as you do smoking. Generally, the device does a very good job at smoking food. As others have mentioned, the controls are a little wonky, but once you know how to deal with them that facet become a non-issue. The shelf layout and spacing are good. I'm not sold that the size of the chip-box is adequate; I've filled it to capacity and had the entire contents reduced to charcoal well before being even half-way through the cook, so I'd say that 90 minutes is about the max you can expect before you'll have to refill. Even with open vents at the top of the machine it releases very little smoke, and I find this device works very well in a semi-enclosed environment. I've had great success with everything I've put in this smoker EXCEPT for chicken. No matter what I try, chicken always comes out wrapped in a sheet of rubberized skin. I know some folks have figured out how to achieve a crispy and delicious skin, but it'd be nice if the instruction manual addressed this.

Good value but you'll need to make adjustments
Good value for the money, but the smoke box only provides smoke for maybe 3 hours tops when filled with chips. Also, the vents at the top of the smoker are pretty big so the chamber doesn't really fill with smoke. I covered up parts of the vents to help keep the smoke in, which did the trick, but as a result the smoker tends to run hot. I don't think the smoker can actually tell what temperature it is inside, so now I use an ambient temp thermometer to get the right temp and adjust the temperature setting so the actual temp matches what I want. As a result, the minimum temp it can really go with the vents partially closed off is like 225F (when I've set it to 175F). So yeah, I can get the result I want but I'm sort of hacking this thing. And I have to replace the chips every 3 hours.

Great electric smoker
Great smoker. I use it for salmon, deer jerky, brisket, lamb hearts and burgers. The smoker gets the job done, just have too be present to keep the temperature dialed in. Two thumbs up!
