Great products, Zero support

Gardena MaxControl looks like a good product, as far as I can tell, but I have really no idea if it works or not. I have a Master's in Engineering from MIT and cannot figure out after a week on how to program it to a simple daily watering. There is no support whatsoever on-line, from any Gardena dealerships, or even from the headquarters in Germany. The product is almost a exaggerated parody of German engineering: massive over-design of the physical item; terrible user-interface; wildly overly complicated programming; and no human being to help anywhere on the planet. A simple set of sample instructions to program it to water once a day for 15 minutes in the morning does not exist. Are the German employees who write the instructions being punished? Who on Earth lists in bold, as the *very* first programming instruction, an extremely abstruse exception: "You must reset your Water Computer before selecting the special function (see 6. Automatic Water Distributor)." ?!? There are nine pages of programming instructions. In the Troubleshooting section there is a page of "Fault (so German, not "problem") -- Possible Cause -- Remedy." The subsection is called "Watering program is not being undertaken (no watering)." I give it two stars instead of one to recognize the fact that all the other water-timers are made in the Far East; break within a season; and as such are useless if you are away. This at least is made solidly and still in Germany.

Another good Gardena product

Works as advertised. I have this timer connected to a Gardena six-zone water distributor and a Gardena rain sensor. The setup works perfectly. As far as the water timer (computer) is concerned, programming is straightforward — though reading the manual first is advisable. One hint: Make sure to clear all watering settings when setting up the timer for the six-zone distributor. Or else you will have chaos. This is mentioned in the manual but is easy to forget. You can water every second day, every third day, or on select days of the week, say Wednesday and Saturday. When it has rained, the rain sensor — which I bought separately — sends a signal to the timer which then operates each zone for just 30 seconds before stopping. It needs to do this otherwise the timing goes haywire.

Very difficult to set up the watering programs

It is very difficult to program the watering days. Apparently there is no way of keeping the same watering duration and starting time for the whole week. You have to do it on a day by day fashion, and even so the whole procedure is very confusing. The old model was much simpler to use.

Great... Only if it functioned as advertised.

Pros: The particular model is versatile - it allows you to freestyle configure the days that you would like it to water plus allow you to set the watering timing up to 9h 59s. Overall, UI is easy to figure out and use. It's got a nifty 30sec watering function just by pressing a button. Cons: If only it would work ... Item is faulty. I set it to water my plants daily. It worked fine initially but after a couple of days (2-3days), the timer resets itself back to 2 times a week which may have been it's factory settings. Almost lost my sunflower plants because if this incident.
