Perfect for nightly trail runs.
Very solid product. Bought it to run a night time endurance race and it worked perfectly. Spent about 2 hours running with it in the rain. Still works perfectly.

Okay, but disappointing
Not a bad little light, but the red light isn't useful for anything beyond maybe 20 yds. Otherwise a decent small utility headlamp for distances below 100 yds or so. I suppose its small size and waterproof characteristic are worth something, depending on what you plan to use it for. I don't find it to be particularly comfortable. I was going to use it for animal watching and predator incursion at night, but I think it's going to get relegated to my truck glove compartment for general/utility/emergency use. There are no-name headlamps in the same price range (or lower) that provide superior lighting at greater distances, but this one has a warranty.

Coast makes great stuff!
I bought my first Coast flashlight 7 years ago. I wasn't familiar with the brand at that time but it looked like it was a quality tool. As with most small items that I fall in love with, I lost it. A year later a friend found my flash light on a gravel road, and fortunately recognized that it was mine. It had been run over hundreds of times and showed a bit more character than it had previously but it still worked flawlessly. I'm still using it today and convinced that Coast knives and flashlights are the best value in the industry. The features, brightness and quality are unlike any headlamp I've every seen at this price point. I love the way the ingenious power/mode switch works. You can push it and cycle through the 5 modes: Flood High, Spot, Spot + Flood, Red and Flood Low. Or you can long press and go straight to the brightest "Spot + Flood" setting. If you double press, it goes straight to the red light mode. When you leave the light on any mode for a few seconds, a single press of the button turns off power completely. I have other headlamps that have multiple switches and I always push the wrong one since I can't see it while I'm wearing it. This single push, rubber-coated, push button switch is easy to find and operate even while wearing gloves. Another unique feature of this light is the battery and charging system. The push button power switch will glow green when the power is turned on and the battery is adequately charged. The switch flashes red to indicate the battery is low and should be charged soon. The 18650 battery can be removed by unscrewing the aluminum battery cover (opposite the power switch). The battery itself has a USB-C charging port on the side. The positive end of the battery will light up red when charging and turn green when charging is complete. The other option for charging it to unscrew the cap around the power switch, revealing a USB-C port and charge indicator light. The other thing that is cool about the charging is the cord that is included. The heavy duty 40 inch long cord has a USB-C plug on one end that plugs into the battery or the light. The other end of the cord has both a standard USB-A that can be plugged into a phone charger and a USB-C that can provide input from a charger or output to the battery or headlamp. I've never seen a cord like this. It's a great idea. It should be noted that the included directions for the WPH30R state that it can also be powered by 3 AAA Alkaline batteries. However, this is not possible. Its big brother, the WPH34R, comes with an adapter and can be powered by 3 AAA batteries. The WPH30R can be powered by 2 CR123 batteries. The adjustable strap is also well made with sticky silicone on the inside edges to help keep it in place. This is a pretty heavy headlamp and I think it would benefit from the addition of an over-the-top strap like the one that comes with the WPH34R. See my review of the WPH34R for a comparison of it with this WPH30R.

Solidly Built 1000 Lumen Fixed Beam
This is a medium sized headlamp from Coast that has a very useful 1000 Lumen output with good runtimes. The headlamp's size is primarily dictated by the need to fit the Zithion-X 18650 rechargeable battery inside. It is a 3.7V, 2600mAh, 9.62Wh power source. Alternatively x2 CR123 batteries can be used if needed or desired. I verified this by installing 2 of them and testing the light. This will produce 6V instead of the 3.7V of the single 18650. The perceived light output seemed to be brighter but I cannot verify this. The CR123 batteries are slightly smaller than the 18650 but fit and work fine in the light housing. The headlamp is robust, solid and durable. With an IP68 waterproof rating it can go just about anywhere except diving greater than 15 feet. The 5 modes are as follows: Hi Flood, Hi Spot, Hi Combination of the Flood/Spot, Red, Low Flood. If you press the button repeatedly it will cycle thru the 5 modes and Off. If you wait 3 seconds after entering a mode then press the button it will turn OFF. When turned back ON again it will start over in the modes again (ie. it will not power on the last used mode). I much prefer this to other lights that must cycle thru all the modes or hold down for longer to turn OFF. Also there isn't an annoying strobe mode to cycle thru. (if you need a strobe mode there are plenty of lights to choose from). The battery charge level indicator is built into the button. It is a unique look that is much easier to identify and see compared to tiny little dots that are standard on most products. I really like this feature. Also the button is a nice grade of rubber that has a good tactile feel and operation to it. Feels very high quality. The USB-C charge port and battery are both located under matching twist caps on each side of the headlamp. You will also find the O-rings there. They can easily be inspected, greased and replaced if needed. This headlamp is 3.74" wide and weighs about 5.6 ounces. It is not a lightweight small lamp. However the larger 2000 lumen bigger brother by comparison is 4.1" wide and weighs 8 ounces. It has to hold a larger Zithion-X battery or the x3 AAA battery cartridge, so this isn't the largest/heaviest headlamp. I personally do find it to be larger than I'm used to, but with a little use time I can get accustomed to it. I use a smaller Coast lamp currently about 3 times a week at work when it gets dark on us while working. I will usually be shingling a roof or touching up paint on a small storage building. I think this headlamps flood mode would work great for this kind of close up use. I like the broad and uniform light spread. It appears to be a daylight color spectrum probably in the 4K to 5K range. The newly designed strap is a nice mesh design with a rubber non-slip lining and quick release buckle. I find it to be a comfortable and capable design. It holds the headlamp securely and it doesn't fall out of position or get loose while being active. On a side note, the headlamp can be removed completely from the strap/mount and be handheld if ever desired. Overall despite the smaller size and lighter weight preference that I have, this light has proven itself to be a powerful workhorse with cutting edge features, great optics and light output. It seems to have been carefully designed with years of experience in this product category being applied and refined to produce a very capable light with a specific features set. If you think the different modes are good for your application then I would say this is certainly a high quality worthwhile choice. I'm going to have to give it a full 5 stars.

One small annoyance with how these lights select modes
I see there are already a few very thorough 5-star reviews here, and I agree with them, but I have to provide on counterpoint: What good is it to have a red LED mode to prevent night blindness if you have to cycle through the white/bright modes to get to it? I've had lights with a separate button for the red LED mode, and ones where the first mode in the selection-cycle is the red LED (and, equally important, there's a way to get back to off without having to cycle through the white/bright modes). Those other lights have spoiled me for ever giving a 5-star review to any red LED light that isn't 100% effective at preventing night blindness. Anybody who's ever been to a star-party will tell you that this light would make you persona-non-grata REALLY quickly!
