Gracie LOVES this toy
My six year old 14 lb. cat absolutely LOVES this toy. She alerted as I unpacked it. Since she's a rescue and I've only had her less than a year, I'm always being surprised by what she knows. Obviously she must have had one of these at another home. Soon as I put it on the floor, she started playing with it. She has had it now for 24 hours with no sign of the pom pom being damaged. When she's not playing with it, she sits or lies beside it like it's her long lost friend. The spring on the toy is nice and sturdy and the base is heavy enough that it supports the toy well. When the pom pom does come off as it obviously will eventually, I'll replace it and possibly knit a tube to go over the spring which is bare wire, but stretched out enough that she won't get her paws caught in the coils. The basic construction of this toy seems quite good for a cat toy. Cat toys are like kid toys, not necessarily meant to be heirlooms. Some cats play rougher than others. If Gracie were a kid, she would be one of those kids who passes their vintage toys, still in very good condition, on to their own children. I have no doubt that others have had less pleasing experiences with this toy, but that has not been our experience. As for us, Gracie and I will acquire more fun stuff from this source. She needs more of this type of interactive toys scattered about the house.

One problem, but easily fixed
The spring part DID separate from the carpet after a few weeks but it was easily repaired with some hot glue in the hole, at the base of the spring and the underside of the carpet square. The pom shredded beyond repair after about 3 YEARS of daily play. I opted not to repair this part as I didn't want my cat biting on the hardened glue. Also, I consider 3 years of my cat absolutely loving this to be a good return on my investment. I have just ordered another one. This is a great toy!

Tipi has worn two out
This is the favorite toy of one of my cats---he has worn out the fleece balls on two of them carrying them around in his mouth. I have never seen him bat it, but he picks it up by the fleece ball and drags it all over the house. It can be hard to find in pet stores, so I have started ordering it from amazon and will replace with new one as one wears out. (Very sturdy, but the ball can be opened exposing the stuffing material after being carried in the animal's mouth for years.)

Sturdy but red fuzz Pom Pom fell apart
The platform and spring are great -sturdy, weighty. But the red Pom Pom on the end of the spring came apart after 3 minutes. We had to rush in to pull the red fuzz out of our 5 month old kitten’s mouth before he swallowed it. I then removed all the lose red fuzz manually (pulled it) - 80% of the red fuzz - and what’s left seems firmly attached. So beware - you will need to defuzz it probably also.

Dangerous!
Please don't buy this toy for your pet! Our kitty loves this type of toy and I purchased this one to replace one she had worn out. The old toy had a dense ball covered in fuzz that was woven into the cover of the ball, and it lasted many years of very energetic play. Unfortunately, this one is just some red fuzz attached to the spring, and in just a couple of minutes of play it started to shred, which could present a choking hazard to to your pet. The toy arrived bent, and money was refunded promptly by Amazon.com, but this is a dangerous toy so I would have returned it anyway. I tried to find a way to contact Amazon regarding the danger this toy could present, but can't figure out how to do so.

Great Classic Toy that Senior Cat is using.
This is a classic toy that my wife and I's senior cat enjoyed when he was younger (We had an old one and this is the purrfect replacement). We recently got a kitten and now they both play with this toy. It is nice to see our Senior Cat acting a little young again and our kitten absolutely loves it.
