Needs a redesign
We’ve tried two of these. Both seal poorly. The seal may last a couple hours or up to a day. A product redesign is in order. From an engineering standpoint, it’s not at all difficult to achieve a vacuum seal over a mason jar. Unfortunately, the Chef’n approach is flawed, despite the admirable product goal. If the product gets improved, promise to come back to try again.

Unreliable Vacuum Lids
I wanted to like this product but I don't because it is very unreliable..., meaning sometimes it works and keeps a vacuum seal but most of the time when I check the lid it falls off in my hand which of course means it is not working. It is not cheap for the one vacuum seal either. Can't send it back for a refund now because I wasted so much time trying to get it to work thinking that I was doing something wrong. I would not recommend this product and will be looking elsewhere for a good vacuum seal(s). My brother purchased 2 of these on amazon and he is experiencing the same issue.

24 Hour Limit On Vacuum Lid Seal. Why Bother?
I was looking forward to using the Chef'n Quickler Preserve Prep Lid. I expected it would be perfect for one of our food loves, antipasto. Antipasto is easy to make, store and serve and shows up on our weekend menus at least once a month. Vegetables pickled the “Italian way” (aka Giardiniera) are key. Fresh veggies are preserved at their peak in a solution of vinegar, water, spices and herbs. They are served on a platter accompanying a variety of cheeses and meats. Enter the Chef'n Quickler Preserve Prep Lid. There is a vacuum pump built into it and the manufacture promises it will “pickle to desired taste between 1 hour to 1 day.” I use both the traditional and “quick” pickling methods, depending on how soon they'll be consumed. The vacuum lid looked to me to be a middle ground that would make the process easier. The traditional method uses a vacuum seal created by placing filled jars in a stock pot of boiling water. The quick method skips the hot water seal and the jars are refrigerated (much shorter shelf life). I expected the Chef'n Quickler lid’s purpose was a way to skip the traditional seal, but still achieve one using its built in vacuum pump. Then I received it and saw the “do not leave lid sealed for longer than 24 hours” notation. There's not a way to switch to a different lid and maintain a seal. It begs the question of what's the purpose? If I have to remove the lid, which breaks the seal in 24 hours, I might as well just use my regular quick pickle method. The claim is that the lid is “also great for preserving coffee beans and other foods.” Yes, but for only 24 hours? Why bother? I'm not going to.

Silly useless gadget
I have made quick pickles for over 30 years, gave this a try. I made a side by side comparison. one using my jars with white screw on lids and then this contraption. My old system worked perfectly. For quick pickles to work the hot brine is poured into the jar, and then the lid is screwed on and "quick pickling" happens. The directions called for letting the jar of hot brine and veggies cool then screwing this on. That jar failed, onions did not pickle, after struggling to get the lid on a wide mouth quart jar, I found it popped off in the fridge in the morning. Then it can only be left on for a day? then you need to change the top? I cannot recommend this item. Just buy some nice white plastic screw tops for your quart jars and do it the easy way. quick pickles-- 1 quart 1 cup vinegar, 1 cup H2O bring to boil with salt and sugar to taste. Add whole black pepper. slice cukes, peppers and fill jar. pour hot liquid over, filing jar to the top. screw lid on right away. cool on counter for 15 mins, then put in fridge. Will be done next morning. I also do this with red onions
