Better than expected

20 years ago I bought a Char Broil and it was so bad I said I would never buy another one...But when I searched for a grill that would not flare up, this one kept coming up so I decided to give it a try since it was so cheap. I actually like it and it does not flair up...I don't know how long it will last, bit so far, so good.

Nice grill - like the infrared

Bought it this summer. Has been a great grill so far. The infrared glass grates are awesome. Never have the cold spots. And I don't think it takes any longer to heat up than regular open rung grates. Gets nice and hot. Doesn't overuse propane. Quality of the steaks, burgers, chicken, sausages, veggies, etc has been delicious. Cleaning is a pain. Very difficult to find an appropriate size/style of cleaning brush. Cleaning the bottom below the burners is tricky. but the pan below the main burner section is only possible to clean if you unscrew half the grill. Really weird. Assembly was good overall, but it depends on your level of handy. For the money, it's a quality grill and I'm glad I have one.

Best grill I've ever owned in 40 years of gas grilling.

Good heat control. Cleaning an issue but not a show stopper. Best way to clean is turn all burners to high after grilling. When there is no longer any smoke from the grease and fat burning off, turn off the grill and let it cool. Before the next time you grill, remove the grates and clean with the included tool over a garbage can or area where you won't mess up your patio. Wear disposable gloves or use a rag, as it can get messy. Take less than 5 minutes to clean and prepare for next cookout.

DANGEROUS GRILL

I’ll attempt to be brief; much to discuss. Manual printed in China. Grill made in China. Doesn't make it bad, just made in China. Manual is in 3 languages. ASSEMBLY NOTES Allow 1 1/2 hours at minimum. It may be possible to assemble with two hands, but 4 hands certainly makes assembly easier. I intended to hold the handle screws with a magnetic screwdriver to prevent them from dropping into the heat shroud. They are non-magnetic SS. I used a length of thin wire wrapped around the screw, pulled the wire off once I had 2-3 threads started. See my photo 1. For some reason, the handle itself is magnetic. Instructions are marginal. I found myself looking back at the parts list several times. Perhaps one of the more confusing photos is of the venturi clip “J" (p43). It is obvious where the clip attaches to the venturi. Less obvious is where it anchors. See my photo 2. DANGEROUS EDGES The edges of some of the bent metal are sharp. Typically happens when metal sheet stock is sheared. There appears to be no attempt by mfr to “break" sharp edges. See my photos 3,4,5. These edges will cut a hand if one would brush past the shelf a little to closely. I suggest you keep small children away from this grill to prevent serious cut injury! I am very averse to consumer products that can easily injure the user. This brings up the idea of a grill protective cover. I would expect areas of the cover in contact with these sharp edges would be shredded in months. I will use a fine-tooth file to tame these corners. SUMMARY Would I purchase this grill again? No. Why don’t I send it back using Amazon’s generous return policy? Well... disassembly time, getting it back into a box. Weight of box. Getting it to a return center… If I could drop it into a small box, put a courtesy Amazon label on it, I would. An assembly nightmare

I was very excited about getting this grill for this "TRU-INFRARED" technology after using a similar model at a friend's house. The grill performs okay, but there are two big disappointments that would make me choose another grill from Amazon if I had it to do over again. First off, the assembly was a nightmare for me. The parts in a convenient package supposedly marked to go with the installation steps and match the diagram looked great. The issue is they didn't always match and the diagram was vague and just not clear enough. Char-Broil's upper end grills have a link to a video you can watch for assembly. All models should have that feature. There was no video on You Tube for my exact model for some reason, either by the company or another consumer. The worst part came when I went to screw in the handle, of all things. The screw fell behind a factory-installed insulation panel in the lid. I tried to take it off, but it was impossible. I ended up calling Char-Broil and asking for a replacement screw. That was a nightmare, too. A half hour wait on line and no live chat feature available on their website. Crappy customer service! Then the second thing I already don't like about my new grill...Charbroil has two versions of TRU-INFRARED. This one is the cheaper, one-piece design. Wish I had seen that before I bought it. I don't think it will work like my friend's, but time will tell. Anyway, buyer beware.
