Hubby is pleased
I’d been playing some pickle ball with friends and when I asked my husband if he’d like to give it a try, he surprised me by saying yes! Going by what little knowledge I have of paddles, I chose this one for him. He really likes it and said it fits comfortably in his hands. The grip has a good feel and he’s pleased with the hits he’s getting. For a couple of newbies, I feel we’re doing quite well. The best part is we are off our bottoms and moving around. I’m not even sure we’re playing correctly, but then I’m not really concerned. It’s not like we’ll be playing in competitions, we’re just having fun and enjoying our retirements together. He said he’d recommend this paddle!

Solid starter set for pickleball.
It seems like pickleball is the hottest new sport right now, and I would like to get into it (since I already love table tennis and tennis). I picked up this set as a beginner set, and played with a family member that has previously played pickleball. The set is easy to use, and the paddles are comfortable to grip. We have played a few times now, and I feel like this is a solid starter set. I also like the travel bag that it comes with. I will continue to use this set, until I get better and desire better equipment.

Good for beginners
Hubby and I are both beginners in pickle ball so I can’t really compare it to something that is more professional other than visiting physical stores locally and comparing it to those. Compared to store bought that were more sturdy with handles that had better grips this, I’d say is not too bad. The grips on these aren’t as nonslip and a bit more heavy than the store. I think since we are both new to this sport, it’s a good beginning and start.

The Apex 100 is a fine all-around paddle at a medium price point. My scale says 7.6 ounces.
PRO: Solid, well-made, excellent power transfer. CON: Very smooth surface, scratches easily, short handle, cheap-feeling grip, lighter weight than advertised. I've been playing pickleball for around 6 months and have begun to understand what I want in a paddle. Having the opportunity to try this paddle out via the Amazon Vine program, I ordered the Champion Apex 100 (the highest quality fiberglass paddle in this lineup). After playing with the paddle, I'll say that it is a serviceable paddle but not much more. The paddle's surface feels very smooth, especially compared to my Onix Evoke XL (a similarly priced fiberglass paddle that I personally like more than this one). The smooth surface means the paddle will not grip the ball very well when trying to spin the ball. Some may prefer the smooth surface because it can improve energy transfer between the paddle and the ball. Indeed, striking the ball hard with this paddle feels good. It is solid-feeling with no rattling and very little vibration (again compared to my Onix Evoke XL) and it seems like there is nice transfer of power into the ball. One complaint I have is that even after using the paddle for a short time there was a bit of paint scratching (see image), so I'd expect this to look pretty worn out quickly. Also, this is a matter of personal preference, but the grip on the Apex 100 is shorter than I prefer (my wife's hand fits this nicely). The grip feels cheaper to me than my Onix paddle, almost sticky, like the back side of electrical tape. Finally, the item description says this paddle weights 8.5 ounces, but this one weighs 7.6, the same as my Onix Evoke XL. The reduced weight is a positive in my view, though if you're ordering this paddle because you want something heavy, perhaps look elsewhere. I don't want to sound too critical of the Apex 100, especially since it is not hugely expensive. It will serve as a fine all-around paddle and seems well-made overall. Very solid feeling and the plastic banding around the edges is tight and secure.

Great budget set for those new to the sport
I'm new to pickleball, and having moved to an area that has courts in the parks, I needed equipment for my wife and I to try it. I got this set, along with two other style paddles for comparison. These paddles are of decent quality. The carrying case is just mesh with a draw string, so nothing great. The paddles face is smooth hard aluminum. I suspect they will stand up to considerable abuse, but when compared to a fiberglass faced paddle they are a bit lacking. I recommend these for kids who might be rough with the equipment, or for those that are extremely budget minded. Otherwise you may want to spend a bit more and get fiberglass faced paddles and a better bag.

My new GO TO paddle!
I am a casual pickleball player, and I've always used a set of paddles I bought as I was learning the sport. They are decent, but nothing special. I decided I wanted to try out a nicer paddle, and I picked up this Champion Shadow-X to see how it compared to my more basic paddle set. I am pleasantly surprised how much I like the Champion model. It has a great feel to it, and the grip is just perfect. The grip feels solid but comfortable, and I feel like it is going to last. The paddle is also a very nice weight ... again, it is lightweight, but it still feels solid. I've now played a bunch of games with this paddle, and the gameplay is great. I'm sure some of this is mental, but I feel like I play better with this paddle. My shots are just a little more accurate, and I love the feeling of a good strong hit with this paddle. It gives me the right amount of feedback and crack that makes the hit feel great. After playing with this for a while, this is pretty much the only paddle I want to play with. I love it.

Great paddle for beginner to intermediate
Great graphite paddle. Perfect weight. Good grip suitable for my hand. Works well for spin as well as shots. Only issue I faces is has a bit of vibration. I would not recommend it to anyone with tennis elbow or shoulder injurie. Reduced one star for vibration.
