Bigger than I thought- works great
I am not sure about all of the negative reviews I saw but this safe is awesome. I actually can't find a negative thing about this safe except for use as a "combat safe" as you'll read below. It is a little complicated but if you go slow and follow the directions it works like a charm. ***HINT***** Since the safe can store 50 fingerprints, and if you are the only person or there are 2 of you with access, make multiple scans of the same finger in slightly different positions during set up. I had it next to my bed for a couple of days and realized I'd have to use a left hand finger at an angle so I held the scan button and placed my finger in at the same awkward angle I'd use if I were lying in bed and it worked 99% of the time on the first try from that weird angle. It is hard to remember the exact place to put your finger sometimes so the more scans you input the more likely it will open on the first try. As for someone else getting in I had 2 people try everything and neither could get the safe to respond. The bolts and door are super heavy, like on a bank vault and it would take a lot to pry your way in. The "emergency key" is not a key that can be copied nor do I think anyone could pick that lock. Bolt it to a wall or the floor and it's not getting carried off easily. If someone does get in you WILL know it because they will have to do physical damage to the safe to get in... like cut the wall of the safe. I can assure you they are not cutting the bolts! For a home gun**See note**, valuables or medications this is the most awesome safe I could have bought especially for the price. I have owned fire boxes and other lock boxes and they have all been broken into because their locks are fairly easy to defeat. This is not easy to defeat. I haven't tried the "greasy fingerprint" way of beating the fingerprint scanner but if keeping a rag near the unit and wiping the glass after you use it is all it takes then that seems like a minor issue. I open this safe between 2 and 4 times a day and in the past month have not had to change batteries. If you use it for a gun I would suspect the batteries will last a very long time. My plan is to change out my rechargeable batteries every 60 days with a fresh set, just to be sure but the emergency key is easy. The best part of the emergency key is that the lock is hidden and it takes extra steps just to get to the lock. Anyone without knowledge of this safe will think there is no emergency key hole. Can someone with time and heavy tools get into this safe? Yes with enough time but it won't be quiet. This isn't a safe to you can leave out in plain sight and dare someone to get into. It is at least as strong as the best hotel room safe without the fire proof walls. **NOTE** It is possible it takes 2 or 3 times repositioning your finger to get it to read right. If you need a safe that is silent and will open 1st time guaranteed (like for a combat situation) then this isn't the safe for you. The beeps aren't that loud but in a life threatening situation where someone is coming straight to the place I hide my gun, this safe may not be the best. Then again, I don't have children. I keep my gun in the safe when I am not home and then very close to me at night...but not in the safe. I have the safe in a bathroom closet and no one outside the bathroom can hear when I open the safe so it's not really that loud. If you worry about having it open in under 3 seconds every time and without a single sound then get a safe with a mechanical lock. But if you think you will have up to 15 seconds to get to your gun and a couple of beeps quieter than an alarm clock won't destroy your tactical advantage then this safe is a great balance of security and ease of use. (maybe I'll do a video of that situation and post it) I think the motor that moves the bolts is louder than the beeps but I see that as a cool feature. It sounds like it's moving really heavy bolts. The motor moves the bolts in under a second so if your first scan works the safe is open in under 3 seconds. You get 3 tries and then have to push the scan button again and if you get it on the 3rd try the safe is open in under 10 seconds. I'd say 90% of the time I get it on the 1st or 2nd scan. If you want a safe to keep in a closet, drawer or under a bed that only you can get into this is the safe. If you need a safe that keeps someone you trust out, as long as you don't keep the emergency key where they can find it, the this is the best safe out there. So far I have not once had a problem opening it and I keep the emergency key at my office so no one else can get in. This is the best thing I have bought in years...and the coolest. If you need a safe to keep people out of your medications, and those of you who have had that issue understand how hard keeping them out is, and how they have defeated everything else you bought, then this is 100% the best safe you can buy. (Don't forget---DO NOT have the emergency key anywhere where they can find it!!!) I can not speak to the quality control of the company except that my safe was perfect out of the box. If other reviewers had issues, I don't doubt them. But read the reviews. If you follow the well written directions that come with the safe you will leave a great review like I am.

Good so far with one caveat
First, minor comments: I mounted this safe on my closet floor which is laminate on top of a concrete slab. The bolts that came with the safe are too short to really clamp it down in my opinion - I doubt they would penetrate much below 1.5" into the concrete and the laminate+backing adds about 3/8" so I went to the hardware store and bought a 3.75" x 3/8" Red Head to really get a bite into the concrete. Also, sleeve anchors do not have the holding power of the 3/8" Trubolt which has nearly 1000 pounds of holding capability. In addition, I made a ply board backing for the safe and used two 1/4" machine screws on the two upper holes on the back of the safe. I could not use the bottom center because it would have had to go through the baseboard molding and I wanted a clean removal in the future should the next owner not want the safe. The back ply was fastened to a 2x4 stud behind the sheet rock with 3 long, robust deck screws. No one is carting this puppy away unless they come in with a massive crowbar or a Sawzall and the later would require a lot of work getting to the bottom, center Trubolt which is hidden inside the safe. The good. I have the safe mounted for about 5 days now. I "trained" it to recognize my forefinger and ditto with my wife. For fun I tried other fingers and as I hoped - they did not activate the lock. I have opened it more than a few dozen times so far. The safe seems well constructed and the pegs that lock the door slide in and out nicely on the 4 AA batteries that are supplied with the safe. I used the "silent" feature so that the alarm does not beep when I open the door. Be warned that you cannot leave the door open with the batteries in because after a time delay you will get beeps indicating the door is not locked. Arguably this is good. Removing batteries is not a good idea, because I believe (not sure) that it resets the finger print recognition. If I am correct, then every battery change means a re-do of finger print "learning". I may be wrong about this, because there seems to be capacitors that maintain charge even when the batteries are out. I am guessing here, but I suspect that if you quickly remove the old batteries, one at a time and replace with a new battery - immediately - it is possible you can keep the old recognition data. It has almost unfailing worked on my finger print. When it doesn't, it is because I placed it too far up on the scanner and the instructions warn you not to do this so it's my fault, not the safe's problem. Once I move my finger down it always works. The bad: to save your sanity, do not try to follow the instructions on learning finger prints as they are bogus. Phone Barska and ask. The woman on the phone was obviously frustrated and I suspect that it was due to a lot of calls like mine. She confirmed that the written instructions and reality were in 2 different universes. I doubt 10,000 monkeys over a century would figure this out. That said, the real instructions are straight forward and easy to follow, it is just that you do not have them on the printed material that came with the safe. In addition, the instructions have you drill a 8/17" inch hole for the sleeve fastener. WTF? I suspect this is due to some Chinese employee at the manufacturing site converting a metric value to an English value, but I am not sure (it would be around 12mm). That was enough to make me buy an American fastener which comes with the drill hole specs rather than try to guess what 8/17" means. Would I recommend this safe? Yes, so far, in my limited experience. I suppose that if you are using it for defensive weapons, you will want to make sure the batteries are always up to charge so they can open the door. I did try the keys that came with the safe and they work flawlessly, but you can't use those when you need quick access, so make sure the batteries are good. It would have been great if the manufacturer added a small LED that glowed when the batteries are nearing end of life. I hid the keys in a place no one will find them and showed the spouse where they are located. It's possible I will never find them again. :-). Actually, I hung them on nail I put into a rafter in my attic in a place that is invisible to anyone who happens to enter the attic, e.g. repair people. I wonder if I can lube the action? I don't know, but I need to look at the instructions. Keeping things lubed and low friction has to help with battery life when using the safe a lot. With the caveat of the strange instructions, which the lady at Barska said they are re-writing, this product seems to work as advertised - thumbs up. I believe this woman told me that she is going to post the instructions on their web site. She kindly mailed me a draft of her updates - which worked fine - and prevented me from going insane. :-) 4 stars are based on the instructions and the fact I have not had the safe for very long. I suspect the safe, with proper instructions will be a 5 star. If I can remember I will comment in a few months.

Good quality safe
This safe is exactly what I needed/wanted. The biometric reader works perfectly. It is bigger than I thought and has plenty of room to store multiple items. Comes with bolts to attach the safe to a wall or shelf.

Great safe
Only just installed it, but already in love with it. With the beep off it's silent and it takes about 4-5 seconds to open from push of button, scan to deadbolts retract. The only con is that the bottom is not flat as there is a flange around the bottom to allow space for the door pivot. As I was bolting this to another safe I ended up cutting up some 3/4" plywood to fit under the bottom of the safe to fill in the gap so the safe would sit flat on the other safe and that the floor of the safe would not warp when I tightened the bolts.

Thief couldn't open it all the way
I had someone try to break into this safe with what I assume was a crowbar and they only got the thin, flat items (e.g. loose cash and small gold chains) that fit through the crack between the bottom of the door and the bottom of the safe when (I assume) they pried it open a little and tipped it sideways to get the contents out. It would have been fine if it was anchored to the floor or wall like it should have been because they wouldn't have been able to tip it. The biometrics work really well. I'm pleased with the purchase and it saved a lot of jewelry that I would have otherwise lost in the theft.

Great safe!
Looks great. Used by a police officer. Can fit gun and taser and other things in it. Or throw the whole duty belt in. The kids have tried to open it with their fingers and it won't open! So it does what it needs! Highly recommend

Works, Secure!
Did some google'n and found some Biometric safes not so secure. After reviewing other places I went with this one. It's worked as advertised. Mounting screws on the back and bottom. Simple, works everytime no issues. Had it for 3 months...
