Love these rods - LONG TERM user here...
Can't say enough good things about these rods. I have used them in kayaks, canoes, hiking, and on the motorcycles - both dirt bikes and Harley's for many years. My son ended up breaking a tip off one while 4 wheeling pretty hard in Colorado...so I swapped him out my last available one. I tried 2 other telescopic rods for a few months...and just missed the feel of these rods. Simple, tough, and casts like a dream with baitcaster, spincast or open face whatever you feel like. - (EVEN USED AS A FLY ROD NOW! added 12/18) Incidentally, my son did not have the tip/guides protected as he lost our "diy tip protector" on a multi day camping trip. I always cut out the bottom off a water bottle and slip it over the top guides. (Lid still on) A rubber band around the water bottle sides and I've it protects the tip/guides with no added weight. Great rods for a great price. Can't find them locally anymore, glad to see em on Amazon Prime. I have several in my rotation...might need to just buy a few to keep and put up if they are getting scarce...but then again, I bet some of mine are pushing 15 years old and still going strong. Edit 12/2018 - this summer/fall I started fishing with a backpack that held 2 of these - one set up with a Zebco 33 micro...and one set up as a FLY ROD! (yes, a fly rod!) and a short, inexpensive Tenkara Rod I got here on Amazon. ALL of these rods are way under 18"...they fit IN my fishing backpack easily...and I now can hike, fish, explore with this pack and cover about any kind of water I encounter! I used in on the Harley...it's all good. I LOVE these rods and I LOVE having choices with me...maybe a long, long way from my bike or Jeep...and NOT having to take apart a 4,5, or 7 piece fly rod is AWESOME! NO, I can't cast a full fly line...or maybe not more than 50 feet with this rod...but really...I don't encounter those issues on the types of trips I use this rod as a fly rod for! I've got plenty of regular fly rods for open water - big water - etc... But I do confess...the ease of use of it spoils me...I've even taken this "DIY fly rod set up" in the canoe and kayak. It's works just fine for casts up to 40 or even 50 feet! I can't say enough about these rods - and I have landed HUNDREDS OF FISH over several decades with these rods. Tiny to good sized...trout, bluegill, crappie, drum, carp, hybrids, stripers, wipers, and more. Is there a better value? I'm not sure...but I flat out love these rods. UPDATED 12/17/2019. Recently went fishing in the bass boat. Had 5 of these amazing rods rigged with mostly Abu Garcia baitcasters...and 2 with zebco 33 micros. The one with a 3.5" swimbait and a 1/8 ounce swimbait head landed 25 Stripers in about 3 hours. TWENTY FIVE! Big landing net, 12 pound line on the baitcaster, and many of these five were around 20+ inches long...4-7 pound stripers that fought HARD, as stripers will...they are solid muscle. These rods can handle a ton. Also, I didn't land it, but I hooked a catfish that was probably 15-20 pounds...easily 3 feet long... my fishing buddy tried to get it in the net but it started rolling and straightened the 1/0 size fish I was using for the bass I was targeting. It was a crazy fun fight for more than 5 minutes. This rod (again with an Abu baitcaster that time too) fought the fish just fine! I guess since I'm a fly fisher and have used UL rods all my life, I've learned how to fight fish on light rods. If you break rods, you might want to pick up a cheap fly rod and check out how a 10 inch panfish can fight hard on a 3 at fly rod! And... it will teach anyone to fight the fish from the butt if the rod, with patience, not horsing and breaking the tips. Just an idea anyway. Best rods I own. And I own some really great rods that cost a ton. I might switch over to these 100%!

Not a bad traveler
Got this one for a trip. Travels well in the suitcase. The top eyelet guide (the little plastic insert) fell off after a few casts but it didn’t really affect the performance. Feels kinda flimsy but worked fine for my son’s little spinning reel. Also put a bait caster on for a bit. Both were good. Even caught a little bluegill and it didn’t break during the epic battle. Survived 2 trips, 3 days of fishing. Thumbs up.

Cheap, compact, you get what you pay for
I'm primarily a fly fisherman these days, but grew up doing plenty of spin fishing. When I am on hikes and such with the family, I don't really have the time to fish the way I'd like to (wading, hiking up/down river, etc.), so I decided to look for a spinning rod that can be packed down to fit in a backpack, and can be set up and broken down quickly. I keep this rigged and ready to go with a lure on the end of it. That way, when we stop for a break along the water, I can make a few casts in promising spots in no time at all. I simply pull out some line, extend the rod, and I am ready to fish. I have it set up with a micro spinning reel and 4 lb test mono. This rod is NOT an ultralight. It's certainly a bit stiffer than I would like, but it serves it's purpose. As long as you are not using super light lures, it should be fine. This rod is no work of art. It's cheap, and it shows. But for me, it serves it's purpose, and for that, it gets 5 stars. If you don't need a collapsing rod and plan to fish heavily with it, then it might make more sense to buy a non-telescopic rod, if your budget allows.

Great portable fishing pole.
I have used these poles for years, from backpacking in the Colorado mountains to hiking along the rivers in Kansas. They fit easily into my backpack and hardly weigh anything at all. They're not built to battle giant fish, but I've caught some nice sized trout with them. They're pretty sensitive, with good action, and I can feel small bites that I might miss with a different pole. Definitely would recommend them to anyone.

Nice rod...
I love this rod... I'm planning on using this on canoe trips because this will be easier to store than a full length rod. This rod would also be nice for someone to throw into their vehicle for when they decide they want to fish on the spur of a moment. This would also be nice for people to throw into campers or rv's. I was a little worried about ordering when I saw numerous reviews about the tip breaking when telescoping it back down but I decided for the price to try it anyways. I've opened and closed it maybe over 50 times with no problems. I think anyone who has had one break is using improper methods to get it collapsed. I'm guessing that when the people went to collapse the tip they grabbed the very tip and jammed it down and broke it. If you are going to collapse the tip instead of grabbing the very end grab the top section of the rod an inch or two above the second section and gently push it down. I think this rod can take quite a bit of abuse with no problem and the problems stated in other reviews aren't because of the quality of the rod, it's more because those people weren't paying attention to taking care of their stuff. This rod it a really great deal for the price. I might order one more so I'll have two for canoe trips. This will be a really great rod as long as you take care of it and pay attention to what you're doing when you collapse it.

best rod for the price
I don't normally do reviews but I feel this rod deserves it. Ive used to for 3 inch pumpkin seeds, bass, catfish and even 10lb + salmon. The small size of it allows me to pack it in my backpack without any parts sticking out. The cons of this rod is because its only 5'6, its hard to land big fish while using light leaders. Also, you wont be able to cast that far unless you use somewhat heavy weights. However the durability, and the moderate action makes it sensitive enough for small fish while making it strong enough for large fish.

So far is works great. Convenient to have for on the go fishing
So far so good This Eagle Claw rod is exactly what I was looking for. I would categorize it as being ultra light. Very flexible. Even a small perch can bend it. The tip can easily break. Be mindful when securing it inside your backpack. The handle is comfy in my hands. I've only caught small rock bass and perch with it so far. I will give a more accurate review once I catch a monster.

A nice telescopic rod
I purchased this rod and used it toward the end of the fishing season. I was not able to really test it out extensively but for the couple of times I did use it I found it to be superb in its quality and performance. I particularly like the portability of it. If you are careful with it and don't ram the sections together and abuse it, this rod should last for quite a while. I recommended it to a friend and they bought two of them. I would do the same if I needed a replacement.

Best telescopic rod for the money!
I bought this rod not long ago and even though I did’nt fish with it yet, I did some testing. At first, I was very disapointed because right out of the pack, I just gave it a little bend and the rod cracked in the third part. I tought I gave it too much of a bend and that it was to delicate for that.. but then I readed that it is good for 6-10 pounds fishing line. I didnt gave more than 2-3 pounds before the crack so I asked amazon for replacement. The second on I received was a lot sturdier! It would really take some good weight to it and didn’t crack as you would exept when fishing! So it was just a factory problem! You can fit any reel you want on it, and the rod feels ok for the price! I recommend this to anyone who wants a smaller rod to fit in a backpack or in a kayak!

Money Well Spent.
Awesome Little Rod! Quite durable compared to other Collapsible Rods that I've tried. Took it fishing yesterday, and it performed very well. It will cast great distances if using a 8 or 10 lb. Mono or Fluorocarbon Line. Very light and very compact too...just over a foot when collapsed. This is the perfect Backpackers Rod and for a Backup Rod too. Would be really nice if they came with a carrying case. I would certainly buy another one for myself or even a gift for any aspiring Fisherman. Money well spent!!!
