Toddler approved and going strong for 5 Months!Great item
Great item, plus its hard to find a child safe mallet such as one like this, and this one can be used on so many things, tambourines, cookie tins, great fun for our daughter.

Smaller bonger thingy hurts less when whacked in face...
This is such a nice little set. My daughter (then 6 months, now 8) loves her sister's Remo large lollipop drum with the big long drumstick. She whacks the heck out of everything (and everyone) with that stick. The longer stick provides her with a really impressive strike zone and we all lived in fear of her wrath, including my 4 year-old. It stings pretty good when she wields that long stick over her head and wallops down on your cheekbone like an angry judge with his gavel. So after taking a few good whacks about the head, face and chest, my husband and I decided it was time to see if they had a smaller "bonger" as it's called in our house. Behold! A smaller bonger! This one doesn't hurt as much when you get whacked. ;) Plus, we won't get concerned looks from people when they see our bruised faces and we tell them the baby beats us. :) The disturbing part is that our daughter seems somewhat disappointed that she can't inflict as much pain and suffering with this one...

Superb Drum Even for Littlest Baby
This drum is made by Remo, industry leader in drums, out of fiberskyn, a synthetic skin. It's a mini version of the gathering drums one encounters at Music Together. It's small, 5 inches in diameter, and very light, so that a baby can easily hold it up when grasping the little handle. It's also two-sided, so it can be banged which ever side happens to be up. It makes a nice sound & my baby has been enjoying it since he was 6 months old. The mallet pictured is not the one you get--actually, it's a nicer one, with a durable hard foam bobble on both ends. Over a month of the baby chewing on the mallet, and being stolen by the puppy once, and it's still in excellent shape. The drum also sounds nice when thumping with bare hands. It's made in USA, for those parents who, like me, don't cherish the idea of "Made in China" ending in a baby's mouth. You really can't go wrong with this one!

Perfect drum for my drumming 7-month-old
We had noticed our daughter seemed to enjoy drumming on anything and everything, so began the search for just the right toy drum. This drum is perfect! It is a real instrument, not just a toy, so its sound is quite pleasant. As soon as she had the drum in front of her, she immediately figured out to hit it with the mallet and then her hand. She loves it so much and prefers it over many of the flashy baby toys she received this Christmas. As other reviewers have mentioned, she is a teether and does enjoy putting the mallet to her mouth. I'm a bit concerned about that and try to discourage it, but even if I have to put the mallet away for a while, the drum is fun for her to hit with her hands and sounds fine that way. We love it!

Good baby toy, with caveats
Babies love banging on stuff, so this is a no-brainer toy. This Remo Lynn Kleiner drum is well-made with cute rainbow coloring and a convenient handle which our baby figured out how to use right away. On the other hand? The drum is so small that it's hard for baby to manipulate, and between the size and the cheap foam mallet, it's a bit too pricey for my liking. For the same fun value, you may as well save your dollars and use an empty oatmeal tub or an upside-down saucepot. Or you could buy a drum by the same maker that's a few sizes larger and will last beyond those first few precious baby months.

nice tone, nice construction
This is just a kid's drum but it's super well made, bright colors, the sound is not tinny or dull, it's a nice "real" tone when you hit it with the mallet. Unlike the picture the mallet is just a plain red, not multi colored. The almost six month old was too young to understand the three dimensional aspect - he's figured out that things make noise when he moves them but not how to create noise by using two items (mallet, drum) but still really enjoyed eating the mallet and hitting the drum with random other things. There are a lot of much lower quality drums for infants out there, but this one you feel like you've purchased something that they'll use for a few years at least.

Needs a Few Improvements, Beater Not As Pictured
Love Remo--but the size of this drum is pretty small, even for a baby. The sound is not very rich and is flat, not too exciting. The beater is bigger than the actual drum and is not the one pictured. It is plain white with a large, plain red foam ball on each side, like a clown nose. Baby would rather teeth on it than use it to play the drum, as it is harder to maneuver than a regular beater. So she uses her hand, instead. Prefer the baby Wave Drum from Hohner, far more exciting for everyone and endlessly fascinating for baby--although it is plastic and more like a tambourine maraca hybrid. After the Remo letdown, I just ended up giving her one of my small frame drums, which is far more thrilling for her, anyway!

Great kids toy
Cute gift for my toddler niece. The mallet is a medium-hard foam. The drum is not too loud, but it is high pitched because of the size.
