Works well!
This egg candler is really nice and the light is quite powerful. It’s easy to use because there is a soft flexible ring that you can set the eggs on securely and simply pushing a button makes it light up. I was able to use it with one hand. It allowed me to see development in eggs that had dark brown and also blue-green shells, which are typically very hard to candle. The egg candler didn’t get hot during use and the light was bright enough that I could see chick movement and heartbeats in a couple of my light colored eggs, which was really cool. If you’re debating between this and a cheaper model, as I was, I would recommend paying the extra money for this one because it works so well and the quality is really nice. It definitely seems like a product that will last a long time and like a good value.

Better than handheld flashlight styles
Brinsea is a reliable product. Egg sits comfortably on light source and most eggs can be viewed, not dark 5-9 Marans or dark Olives.

Works well with colored eggs
Used for a variety of colored eggs, including dark Maran eggs.

Buy the F190
If you are looking for a candler. BUY the Brinsea F190 NOT the Brinsea Ova View Standard egg Candler F180. My flashlight is better than the F180. Purchased the F180 by mistake. For a couple of cents more the F190 is a better choice.

Easy to Use Egg Candler
I am a first time incubator and bought this egg candler after reading many reviews on other types of candlers. I received this product on Day 3 of my incubation period. (My incubator is the Brinsea Octagon Advance 20.) I tried candling on Day 3 as I read on the instructions posted on the internet. I didn't have much to look at so we left the eggs there. Following the instructions that came with the incubator, I candled again on Day 7. It was very easy to see which eggs were fertile and which ones were not. 19 out of the 20 eggs we were incubating were fertile. I highly recommend this product for ease of use. I have my candler on the countertop next to my incubator and I am able to hold the incubator lid with one hand and grab and place the egg in question on the candler with the other hand. Feels more secure than using a flashlight or a handheld candler. For comparison, I have shown both the fertile and infertile egg in the photographs. You will not be disappointed.

I love this little candler
I love this little candler!!! I candle my brown eggs to sell at market. Brown eggs are a little harder than white eggs to candle. After you see enough of them, it gets easier to see those note even the small blemishes inside. I take it out to our brooder house to where we have our incubators and check to see how the eggs are coming along. This certainly is not a $300 candler, but it works great for what I need. The gentleman from the state who came to certify me to get my state egg license was surprised at how well it worked for a small hand held candler.

Works but not bright enough
I could see like cloudy veins to know the eggs were de eloping but it was better with a cell phone light so waste of money to me

no cords
I like the fact it's battery operated. It's not very bright, not as bright as the old flashlight I used to use, but it serves its purpose. It's portable, I can take it to the coop or use it in the kitchen. Handy in the kitchen for hubby since he boxes up eggs for friends. Some friends found partially developed eggs. so.. A must have if selling or giving eggs (if you have a rooster, that is).

Brinsea OvaView Candling Lamp
This little lamp is perfect for use, I'm glad its not mains operated, it gave us the freedom to creep in and check eggs without having to move them from out outdoor coop and away from mum. The light is really bright, brighter than I expected being a little sceptical. It helped us identify fertile and none fertile eggs. I was able to see the veins heartbeat and any movement of chicks inside (much to the delight of my 5 year old son) It also helped us to hatch 1 of our chicks by hand seeing it was still alive but not able to fully break through the shell after day 23. Our hatch was very successful and I will be using this candling light again next year.

Having relied on a good torch before-hand
Having relied on a good torch before-hand, I was pleasantly surprised at the incredible clarity of the candling lamp. For all standard size eggs it is very illuminating, and it has been wonderful to see young chicks moving within the egg, and monitor their progress. For Bantam eggs it is a little more difficult to see things in the later stages, as the air sac end of the egg totally disappears into the cradle above the light. Even so, it is still a very useful tool for determining fertility of the eggs, and the chick's early progress.

Great candler first duck/hen eggs
Great little item, going from the torch method to this candling device is like chalk and cheese, saw a duck moving inside it’s egg before hatching clear as day!!

Superb
Excellent product, absolutely perfect. There is a warning about looking at the light, it's there for a reason. I turned it on facing me by accident, don't do that ????
