Figure design is great, but magnets are installed incorrectly. Hats won't say on head.
The figure design is marvelous. But the magnets, which are cast into the hats and the character's head, are installed incorrectly. The hats literally won't stay on the head. I may try something with tape, but geez. All three hats won't work. At least they are consistent :P

Very Nice Figure
This is my first figure from Boss Fight Studios and is part of wave 1 of Popeye figures. This wave also includes Olive Oyl, Bluto and, of course, Popeye himself. At $35 a figure, I would consider this line to be mid-tier. What I really love about what BFS is doing is that they are including more obscure characters like Castor Oyl and with wave 2 we’ll be getting characters like Sea Hag and Poopdeck Pappy w/Pooky Jones. Castor Oyl is a very short character and the figure measures in at just under 3.5 inches. Compare that to Bluto who measures in at nearly 6 inches. This is clearly intended to be the Elzie Segar version of Castor Oyl, although I’m not sure what other version you could use since I don’t recall Castor Oyl being used hardly at all after he diminished from the comic strip. BFS reproduces Segar’s design, right down to the lines around his eyes and on his bulbous nose. The figure comes with three hats and the character did indeed wear several different hats in the strip so it’s very cool to have the choice. The hats are held on with magnets and you can hold the figure upside down and the hats will stay on. Since Castor is so small, BFS shipped him with two other characters, Bernice the Wiffle Hen and Eugene the Jeep. These two magical creatures are very similar to what Segar drew but BFS made some minor tweaks that probably improved their looks. It’s pretty clear that Boss Fight was trying to recreate the look of the comic strip as close as possible, but it can be a challenge to reproduce 2D images in 3D. His articulation is rather awkward and although he stands fairly easily, he doesn’t stand flat footed. The range of articulation is very limited and some of the joints are a bit stiff. I actually preordered 8 different Popeye figures from Boss Fight Studios so if it turned out they were disappointing I was going to have a lot of disappointing figures in my collection. I’d say the figures are pretty much what I was expecting or hoping for. I didn’t find them better than expected but I’m pretty satisfied.
