Perfect sander

Always wear gloves and a mask if possible, and be careful when buying aftermarket replacement parts.
The black and decker random orbital sander works fine and is long lasting. However, i ended up ruining TWO of these units when I went to replace the rubber portion of the unit (eventually the rubber part of the Sander can wear out so it does not grip the sandpaper as effectively. The replacement part was missing four holes so when I installed it, it instantly broke four pins that keeps rubber part in place. I did not realize the first time it happened that that was the problem. So a year later when I had worn out the rubber part on my second black and decker random oribital sander I used the second of the two defective replacement rubber center parts I had ordered and instantly ruined my second Black and Decker Random Orbit Sander. That is when I realized what had happened. It's not Black and Decker's fault I bought third party defective replacement parts, However I wish Black and Decker would more aggressively price their replacement parts so people don't end up buying third party defective replacements parts.

Great and inexpensive orbital sander
This sander works great. I ordered a whole bunch of sanding discs for my old craftsman sander, but I realized that my old sander does not accept the hook and loop (velcro) like most sanders nowadays do. Since all I can seem to find easily is the hook and loop design, I decided to buy a new sander. I do not use a sander very often, but when I do I want to make sure it will hold up and work great. Black and Decker is a cheaper name, but still a well-known name so I bought this one. I can safely say that I am satisfied, especially for the price.I like how there isn't an on off switch. The whole top piece is the switch! This makes it so easy to turn on and off and you can also lock it on as well. This is an 8 hole sander and most sanders and discs seem to be 8 hole anyway. The only drawback I see and its not a huge deal, but it is a pain in the butt to totally clean out the dust collector. I was shaking the thing out forever and dust was still coming out. I ended up using my air compressor to clean it out and that seemed to work good. I have used this on some boards that I glued together and it worked well. I was sanding for maybe an half an hour each time I worked on my project and I have no complaints. It is a very simple and affordable sander and I would definitely recommend this to any DIYer.

The lack of an adjustable speed control is hard to overcome
The orbital sander works as designed and clearly does a decent job of removing material from projects. However, without any opportunity to start of slow or to do a slow sand, I've found it tough to get the high quality results I had hoped for. Starting out at full power can cause (I found out firsthand) you to take off more material than you may expect. It is not as a big of an issue when using the higher grit papers (lower numbers), as I typically need to remove a lot of material (paint, rust, etc.). It is when you go form medium to fine to extra-fine that the ability to control the speed and movement would be very useful. My recommendation is to pay a little more money and get a sander that has a variable speed capability, Your frustration level will decrease and the quality of the finished job will improve.

All You Need in an Orbital Sander
You can pay five or ten times as much for an orbital sander -- but why? This B&D unit does everything an orbital sander should do and does it well. It is rugged and fairly hefty (I'm not sure why one of the characteristics for review is "Light Weight", because it isn't, nor should it be). This thing is well built, I've dropped it several times on a concrete floor and it just shrugs it off. The paddle switch activation is a great feature, I can switch it on and off just by how I hold the sander. When sanding an edge I can reduce the speed by pulsing the switch on and off. It sucks dust out from the work area efficiently, preventing the paper from clogging up and wearing out prematurely (I'm very impressed with this, struggled for years with oscillatory sanders that didn't have this feature). The little dust bag is quite effective at trapping the dust. But they could have made this a tiny bit better by making it so a shop vac hose could be attached as an option. I may make an adapter on my 3D printer. If you're one of those people that have one of those "snob" orbital sanders powered by compressed air and costing hundreds, sell the thing, buy ten of these and give nine of them away to your friends, you'll be better off.

Missing some important features
The sander motor is really good and still working but the hook and loop pad has worn out and I can't replacement pads anywhere. So in terms of finding replacement parts it is not the greatest. I also don't like the push button on top, it would have been better if they reverted back to their older models where there is a switch on the side.

Super happy- awesome product
Great little sander, im super happy with it. Just make sure the lock switch is always on when putting the sanding paper on. Only wish there was a lock function to keep it spinning without having to push the handle down the whole time.

Yup. It's a perfectly good sander for your home improvement projects
If you're not a pro who uses a sander 6 hours a day, this sander is going to do the job just as well as a $110 dewalt. It says one speed, but I found that you can press down on the button as hard or soft as you like and the speed changes enough you feel like you've got good control over what you're doing. 100% would buy again. Oh yeah, please use it outside. I don't know why you would want to sand anything indoors unless you have a shop vac in your garage.

Excellent machine for the cost
Just completed refinishing an oak stairway over weekend; very easy to use with palm switch and lock. Used length of light plastic sump pump hose attached with electrical tape as adapter to central vacuum hose instead of supplied dust bag; worked great over extended period without slightest problem. Used Coceca 60PCS 5 Inch Sanding Discs Sandpaper Assorted 60 80 120 180 240 320 Grits For Power Random Orbit Sanders ordered at same time.
