It worked at the beginning but the ducks got it eventually
When I first out those in, I didn't see the ducks return for like a month. Then I saw a duck standing next to the pool staring at it. I went out and chased her away. A week later, I saw a pair swimming in my pool. I went out and chased them away. Luckily, it was probably the end of the mating season and they found somewhere else to build their nest. So, I haven't seen any ducks since.

Didn’t work as a bird repellent
Didn’t work out. The ducks would enter the pool and swim along side them.

Hawk totally ignored them and killed a chicken.
I'll spare you the photo. I don't see these doing anything to deter birds of any size, especially not a large bird, if your goal is to deter hawks as mine is. But even sparrows perch on the line the balloons are hung from.

Didn’t work for me
Bought 3 - 3 packs and hung 6 of them across the pool to keep the ducks away. The ducks were in the backyard and the pool less than hour after hanging them up…

Really works - even on jaded city birds
I live in a condo in a 6-story warehouse-style condo in downtown Chicago. After six years of relative quiet, a community of birds suddenly took to hanging out in the support beams of the balcony above mine. In addition to incessant chirping right outside my bedroom window well before dawn each day (even weekends!), they had *coated* my balcony and railing in droppings. And in the city, it's not like I have the ability to simply sweep or hose them off. Given that most city wildlife is not afraid of anything (a billowing trashbag and my dog had no effect at all in the days prior to receiving my package), I was very skeptical that something so simple and inexpensive would work. But it did--immediately. I used an untwisted hanger to hang it from one of the rafters and attached the included foil tape to the bottom, and almost two weeks went by without a single sighting, chirp or dropping! After that time, I did notice one bird on the neighboring building's roof edge, looking at my balcony, but it didn't come in. I just changed the color and the position of the balloon and he's long gone. I now change it up every week or so. The yellow seems to be the most effective. It's ugly, but I was able to find a position that doesn't show too much from the kitchen or bedroom windows that overlook the balcony. It moves just slightly in the wind, which is perfect. I would have given this a full five stars except for one thing. You have to unpeel the tightly-packed, sticky-plastic balloon carefully or it will tear, and it's almost impossible to keep some of the design ink from transferring to the side it was stuck to. I hastily tore the first one open and created three small holes in the plastic so it wouldn't stay inflated. Fortunately, some flexible fabric glue fixed it quickly. I was much more careful with opening the other two and they are fine. Simple, inexpensive, humane and easy to use, and it works! I'm so grateful.

Be sure to order enough to block access.
We have a second story balcony. It's relatively small, with room for a couple of wooden rockers plus another chair. Things were fine until the pigeons and doves (fed by a neighbor) discovered this was a handy place to perch--and poop. The backs of the rockers became their favorite perches. An hour with a pressure washer was required to clear the mess from furniture, floor and railings. After reading about a variety of deterrents, I ordered two packs of these balloons so that I could qualify for free shipping. Initially, my husband put up only three of the balloons, spacing them equally on the largest span. They kept birds out for not quite two days. Then the pigeons began to return, entering through the open (unguarded) ends of the balcony. My husband immediately hung two more balloons, one at each end. That seems to have done the trick. No pigeons or doves have settled in again, as shown by the lack of droppings. As the item description notes, these are about the size of beach balls. They come with mylar streamers and decals, both of which you have to attach yourself. You will also needs little eyelets to screw into the ceiling or whatever you are attaching them to, as well as some kind of cord. PROS: These are a relatively cheap first thing to try. They are perhaps best suited to protecting a limited small space, such as our balcony. CONS: They do look a little goofy. I am not sure whether I would have put them up if this balcony were at the front of the house. Also, the mylar streamers do make some noise as they flutter in the wind. However, that's probably part of their effectiveness. WHY DON'T THEY WORK FOR EVERYONE? * You need to buy enough balloons, and space them closely enough. * You need to block all flight pathways. * You need a fairly steady wind, to keep the balloons moving about. Hawaii's tradewinds are ideal in this regard. We will see what happens when we lose the trades in September and October, at the end of summer. As several reviewers have noted, these won't last forever. They are just mylar balloons, after all. So, I expect we will need to replace them, perhaps even more than annually. But I definitely plan to keep enough on hand to put them back immediately. The cost is reduced by using the Super Saver Shipping option.

Did not scare away ducks
Every spring we have Mallards landing in our pool that eventually lay eggs and sadly we have to take the babies from their mother to a rescue and the mother obviously left heartbroken looking for them hanging around for days. This year we couldn't do it again we ordered these balloons helping they would deter the ducks from landing in our pool. I looked out one day and the ducks were swimming with all 3 balls! I called the duck rescue and he said ducks don't care about these sort of things. It was too late to return them so it was a total waste of money. We bought fencing and fenced off the shrubbery near the pool, ducks like to lay eggs in shrubbery very close to the water. The fencing worked. Don't bother buying these if your goal is to keep ducks out of the pool and prevent laying of eggs. Fence off areas near the water and they will vanish.
