Complicated, but good stuff.
This is a complicated review because Nanofil has some serious pros and cons that you should consider. The only good thing about this line is that as far as I can find, this is the smallest diameter hi viz line and if you like to fish ultralight lures in flowing water as much as I do, this stuff is very interesting. .004 at 4lbs test. That's HALF the diameter and smaller diameter means much further casts. If you like to watch your line for takes rather than fishing a bobber or indicator, 2lbs SOS test flouro that I normally use sometimes just can't be seen. In that regards this stuff is great. I landed two stockies on a white marabou jig with a 5x flouro leader on a Ugly Stick 7' Ultralight, but really shines on my new threadlining rod made for small diameter line specifically. The sensitivity was superb and the visibility lets you detect the smallest of bites. Bad news is that this stuff is snappy and...slippery? Standard knots like a palamore or double surgeons aren't gonna cut it. You'll give em you're standard test pull and the knot will come right undone. There is a good knot you can find on youtube, maybe even called a Nanofil knot, and it works the best for attaching a leader, but I can't remember the exact name. It's not the easiest knot, no pun intended. If you take your time and practice, you'll get it, but make sure to give it a good secure test before hooking a fish up on it. You could conceivably attach a tippet ring or barrel swivel and only have to tie that knot once, using standard knots on your fluorocarbon leader, but then you have to deal with the disadvantages that come with that. This stuff also didn't stand up against snags very well and was quite frustrating to get used to losing a good bit of tackle along the way. Not a fan of that. Probably my biggest gripe with this stuff is that it doesn't take well to going on a reel directly and you need to use mono backing. When I did this the knot connecting the backing to the line sticks out a little on the reel sometimes which can stop the beautiful cast you can make with this stuff and smack your lure in the water. Not a fan of that either. You can fix this by putting on a lot of Nanofil to bury the knot, but this stuff isn't cheap and once you're running low enough to expose the knot, you've got to completely replace the Nanofil because trying to attach another section of Nanofil to make up the room means another knot that you will also have to bury. An ultralight reel only holds so much line. So while I'm sure there are answers and tricks I will figure out along the way and hopefully be able to share with others, this stuff is a little complicated. But what you get is a cast to the moon with tiny lures like trout magnets, have perfect visibility of strikes and really instinctive sensitivity. Great stuff overall, but if you don't give a hoot just buy SOS line. It's the best overall in my opinion. But I really hope Berkley keeps this line going cause I hope to always have a spool of it around because it's a great tool in the tool box.

This is my go to line until I find something more cost effective yet managable.
Spooled up my UL spinning rig with 6lb line so I didn't have to deal with wind knots and to get longer casts with lighter lure weights (1/64 oz.) This stuff casts like a dream! It is smoother than frogs hair, split three ways and sanded! Casts good in the wind to. The one issue I have had, which in my opinion is tolerable, is that there is potential for wind knots when you are picking up slack or a lure that is very lightweight. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. I have tried to visually manage my spool in with the hope of mitigating the problem before it starts, but somehow one or two seem to slip by. I put some on my 9 year olds rod trying to convert him from spincast to spinning. He has done well with it as compared to mono but it get under the spool on him to the point where I can't justify the cost of allowing him to use the line until he understands the spinning setup more in depth. I personally love this line! With that being said, I would like to personally compare it to Nanobraid. I can say this, I ain't spoiling up with mono nor floro ever again; those lines will be my leaders.

Easy long casts
I was out fishing in icy weather using braid and I ended up losing three lures in a single night. A guy fishing nearby told me about Nanofil and I had to try it. It's very light so it casts well. I get the best results using the improved cinch knot. The cinch, or fisherman's knot, tends to slip. Give it try you'll be hooked. Tight lines!????

Great for Beading with a Needle
I use this Nanofil for seed bead crafting. It is espeically thin and works wonders when trying to thread a size 10-12 beading needle. I have used it for a while and have gone through several spools without issues of breakage or fraying. It breaks my heart to know it's being discontinued.

Berkley ,NanoFil ! YES !
Berkley NanoFil came out several years ago , I've been using it for over three years and it's " GREAT ! " I love this line, with a Penn 2500 SSVI reel and a 6ft . rod spooled with 6lb. NanoFil I can cast a .25oz. jig 60+ feet ! Wow ! I've used NanoFil on all of my Peen Reels from 2500 , to my 6500SSVI with 17lb test line. So smooth and tiny diam. It's strong and light. I fish in " salt water " a lot. this line last forever ! Three plus years and just like new !. As for value, can't be best ! This is not a braid , not a mono, but the very best of both ! The 17lb. test is as thin as 8-10 lb. test mono. ! A " Great buy " , try fer yer self and see, just how great this line is. Thank you, Tom Daytona Beach, FL.

THIS is why you buy this fishing line for a spinning reel only and never a bait caster!
If you FLOAT FISH with a SPINNING REEL this is the only line to buy and here is why. I float and jig fish for Steelhead on rivers using a spinning reel. With a regular fishing line while its free spooling down the river, it snags on the spool and jerk the presentation to a stop. I haven't tried every line out there but I have tried many of them. They all snagged on the spool while gently free spooling. OK in case you are not understanding this... You cast your bobber and jig, it floats downstream, the bite of a Steelhead is the same a trout, very gentle. As you stare at you float looking for any sign of a bite your stupid line starts jerking the float as it comes of the spool. So, now you cant tell whats happening. Was that a bite in between the jerks caused by the reel and line? Nanofil does not get catch on the spool in the slightest. its smooth. (and by smooth I dont mean the line is smooth. it looks very stiff) I was so impressed with this line I replaced all my reels with it. Big mistake, on a bait caster it is the devil! do not use! Bait caster and Nanofil equals birds nest city.

Best Fishing Line I’ve Ever Used
I’ve been using this Berkley Nanofil fishing line for years. It’s thinner and casts like a dream further than any other line on the market. It doesn’t stretch. It’s the only line I’ve been using. No problem with knots if they’re tied correctly. Works very well with a fluorocarbon leader. I’ve just purchased enough line, in different strengths, wherever I could find it, hopefully enough to last me for at least the next ten years, because, unfortunately, Berkeley has decided to discontinue this line. I feel this is a mistake and a big loss to sport fishing. I only hope I purchased enough line to last me till I I’m too old to pick up a fishing rod anymore.

The best fishing line on the market in my opinion
This is my main line for lake trout. It is so light and very strong. floats on the water and is great for the smaller type casting.

Great invisibility and amazing sensitivity as well as a smaller diameter to facilitate casting

Bad spool in 6lb
I'm giving it 3 stars because I have to return this 6lb spool. Love the high vis color, but for some reason this spool is breaking and fraying on me severely. It started on the first outing. I don't recommend any nanofil under 8lb test. I used the 8lb before and it was good.
