3rd time's the charm.....
Seller...Amazon, Shipper...Amazon Originally ordered the Berard 90070G salt keeper, which is the slightly smaller, cheaper version ($39.63 vs. $53.99). First "G" version arrived. It was rather plain looking without a lot of visible grain. I probably would have kept it except for the fact that the lid was not quite aligned with the sides of the bowl when the lid was closed (apparently the magnet in the lid or in the bowl was offset slightly from where it was supposed to be located). So I returned that one and asked for a replacement. That 2nd "G" version arrived and had a lot more grain in the wood and looked nicer than the first one. BUT...there was NO magnet in the lid, so the lid would not stay closed. There was a HOLE in the lid where the magnet was supposed to be....just no magnet in it. So I returned that "G" version and decided to order the slightly larger 90070 version. That one arrived and was FANTASTIC looking. Just beautiful looking grain in it. The only little glitch was that the magnet in the lid was slightly proud of the lid surface, so when the lid was closed there was a 1/16" or so gap between the lid and the bowl. I used a C clamp to pull the magnet flush into the lid and now all is well. Works great for having a pinch of salt readily available, and is beautiful to boot. I'm really glad that the 2 "G" versions I got first had issues that resulted in me getting the 90070 version that I ended up with!

Very impressive gift, very impressive spice keeper!
You get what you pay for, and you are paying for this! However, it is like a work of art for a salt or pepper keeper. I loved my first one so much, I bit the bullet and ordered a second one. Beautiful, easy to use - makes me feel like a chef. Saw Chef Jean-Pierre using one and thought I should try it. Glad I did! Love the olive wood!

Beautiful workmanship
I bought this for husband’s birthday, it was so high end and he loved it immediately. I highly recommend this to the chefs in your life.

Pretty great, and exactly as described!
Despite it being months since my Le Creuset salt pig was tragically shattered, I found myself reluctant to pull the trigger on this purchase. As you may have noticed, there are a large number of contradictory reviews, leading to thoughts, like: is it terrible? Amazing? Not what’s listed? Will it even hold salt, or maybe it will spontaneously burst into flames? I could just get another crock, as it’s guaranteed to be exactly the same as my previous one, but the olive wood on this one was so lovely… The price recently dropped, so I figured that was a sign. And it turns out everything is great. The salt cellar is lovely, heavy and holds a little less than a cup of salt. Does that mean yours will be just as good? I have no idea, but I figure I should put one vote in for what appears to be a very nice, functional piece of art for my kitchen.

A work of art!
Absolutely love it! So smooth to the touch, fine craftsmanship, a work of art, and functional too. Worth the price!

metal magnets flake into salt after 3 years
it's so beautiful , substantial , i've really like/loved it , but now the metal magnet things on the lid are flaking . i guess they are coated with shiny silver or something ? anyway , i'm disappointed ... they should have used solid magnets and not coated ones . i don't want metal flakes in my salt ...

Beautiful salt cellar
I put my Camargue fleur de sel finishing salt in this and keep the beautiful container next to the stove.

Disappointed , not up to expectation
I purchased this because it was supposed to have been designed in France ( originally also made in France) but presently made in Tunisia. Berard is more expensive than other olive mediterranean wood cellar of similar size and mechanism. However. although the mechanism seems to be working now, disappointed because I doubt if it was made from a single piece of wood. The bottom part has beautiful olive wood grain but the top cover that swivels, looks dull, has whitish effervescent, does not have the grain of the bottom part. I think for $20.00 less, I could have gotten similar one , made in Tunisia but without the famous Berard Brand which seems to have inferior quality as compared to older ones made in the past. Some other customers has reviewed and felt that Berard Brand is no longer up to expectation
