1 of 2 of the best ways to safely raise a toilet seat a few inches. Well made, looks good & easy to install.

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to safely raise my 94 year old father’s toilet seat several inches. Below is what I learned. This Bemis product is one of the few of its type and is an attractive very good quality elongated toilet seat, effectively raising your toilet about 3 inches. It readily mounts to the toilet bowl with supplied fasteners, although I replaced their long plastic nuts with compatible spacers and wing nuts for ease of removal (see Installation below). The seat can be installed fairly easily by the homeowner and seems easy to keep clean as well. Bemis has a number of other toilet seat products similar in purpose to this one. For me this item solved several problems that I encountered with my attempts to raise the level of the toilet seat. One basic problem is that there are virtually no toilets made that are significantly higher than about 16-1/2 inches from the floor to the top of the bowl. Don’t believe a salesperson on this question - check the manufacturer’s spec sheet to be sure. You’ll see what I mean. Another problem is that with many inexpensive toilet seat risers or spacers (i.e., the kind that fit between the toilet bowl and the toilet seat), when attached they may not be stable, but are difficult to fasten properly and can slide around. Also, fastening these types of spacers with some toilet seats with slow closing mechanisms and special fasteners can be even more problematic. Some risers or spacers that don’t require or allow a toilet seat may also not be stable. If you decide to get either of these types of spacers, look for one that has a clamp, typically a knob operated one, that grips the front of the toilet bowl to stabilize the riser and/or seat. Installation: The product comes completely assembled with two long 3/8-inch bolts that go into the two holes at the rear of the toilet bowl. Supplied are two long plastic nuts that are threaded onto the bolts from underneath the toilet. The nuts are threaded on by hand first, then tightened up with a 5/8-inch wrench until the head of the plastic nut breaks off. Bemis calls this their STA-TITE Commercial Fastening System, and its purpose is to prevent overtightening the bolts and breaking the toilet. I wasn’t sure if I liked this system so I replaced their plastic nut with the following: a thick nylon washer or spacer, then a thinner metal washer, then a lock washer and finally a metal wing nut. Then I just tightened the wing nut by hand as tight as I could. The result is no damage and the seat can be easily removed. All these items were 3/8-inch sized and I had them around my workshop, but they can be found at any good hardware store or building supply chain, if you really want to try this. The purpose of the spacer, and the reason Bemis uses a long nut, is to make the nut or wing nut more easily accessible. Another Alternative: The best alternative to this product, in my judgement, is the Toilervater by HartMobility.com, also available at Amazon. It is an oval riser that GOES UNDER THE TOILET and raises the toilet 3-1/2 inches above the floor. It comes in two sizes and all necessary connecting parts appear to be supplied. The installation instructions look straightforward, but a plumber might be required to insure a proper job.

What to say? Safe. Secure. Correct size. That's what!!

Safe. Secure. Correct height. Easy to install. BEMIS 2L215OT 000 Medic-Aid Buyer chooses appropriate height. o Reassuring to put my feet on floor. Medical issues were heightened by the 4" seat lift...and dangling legs & feet. Safety & Correct height. o Feeling of security on this comfortable seat. YES! Secure seating. o Son quickly installed...and the seat was ready to go. (Other companies' models took hrs at times to install; didn't come from correct screws or whatever.) Easy to install. o Cleaning: Eazzzeee peaseeee---No issues to discuss or even mention Cleaning a whiz. PAST 18 months: Too many months on a molded 4" 'high-rise' toilet seat lift. Scary. And it would shift. Even more scary. Too many options!!!!!! Definitely head-swimming. Too many tried this one or that. Time & money involved. Frustrating...a lot As an octogenarian my safety was primary. No matter how I searched for exactly. what I needed (these things I DID know). I passed the searching on to my caregiver. She narrowed options to certain specifics. NICE. Son reviewed these with me as he & I both knew the fallacies of that current one AND the trial ones. Thanks, BEMIS.

Well made seat for everyone but the EXTRA XL

I first must echo some information that another review contained. This seat is strong and well made, yet it was able to slip of the ceramic bowl and therefore it is important that you measure the exterior and interior dimensions and diameter for your own knowledge. I am a super large guy who breaks many things that normal people don’t. So I am often an anomaly that doesn’t go into the plans. But the need for stability and strength for a toilet seat meant for differently abled ~ disabled people is tough unless introduced within a professional hospital or therapy environment. When I emailed the maker I got an immediate response and was able to speak to a professional support person who then offered to send me a new seat. I am going to try some additional or different hardware to fix what I know needs something more for my size and weight. I will add any practical working information I find

Quality, quality, quality

This is a level of quality beyond normal household toilet seats (perhaps it is made for hospitals, Dr’s offices, etc where exceptional quality is demanded?). It is ‘solid as a rock’ on our American Standard elongated toilet, when installed per instructions with snap off nuts. No flex or sideways movement of any kind. Not any! Open front is very convenient. As easy to clean as any ‘normal’ toilet seat. Yes, a slow close feature would be much appreciated - are you listening, Bemis? A bit expensive, but it seems to be worth it. Never owned a toilet seat of this quality in my 80 years.

Greatest 2" elongated toilet riser seat

Fantastic, very comfortable fits elongated high toilet perfectly, 2" riser is what I needed for my TOTO model toilet as other risers were way too high for an already high toilet. Having an opening in front is very helpful.

Easy Install & kids love it

I am very tall so I always buy the tallest toilets possible. My kids like to climb onto the toilet seats without using a step up... so they would complain about the toilet seat pinching their thighs sometimes. I decided to buy this one. With it being open ended and a small 2 inch elevation it does not pinch their skin at all and it raises the toilet an extra 2 inches for me! BONUS. It's very easy to install and this one comes with a lid which is lovely when you want the seat closed.
