Great outlet box extender

Best Option

Needed to add a conduit to an old junction box at my pool light GFCI outlet. Wiring configuration and old, possibly brittle conduit, made replacing the old box a major hassle. By using this, new conduit was easy to add. Extra space it created made more room for additional wires and connectors. Gasket was nice and thick, but I still caulked outside of the plug and gasket, just to be sure. Local stores don't usually keep these in stock. Very nice quality.

Amazing

This device is superior to other boxes in that the mounting holes scissor up and out of the way to attach to the existing box, allowing you to use regular length screws to attach the outlet to this extender. Makes a previously difficult task easy.

A good deal, considering these can be hard to find

I needed one of these to provide additional space for wiring a GFCI outlet and to give the in-use cover more clearance from the clapboards above. My local hardware/lumber and home centers don't even carry these adapters, so it's Amazon to the rescue. This one has a fair price and is well made. This adapter installs a surface mounted weatherproof extension over a box that has been set into an exterior wall (i.e., over a "cut-in" box). Extensions for weatherproof boxes have the same dimensions at the front and back; this adapter has a 3/8 inch flange around the back to help seal the connection over the recessed box and the surrounding siding. The swing arms do make it easier to install the screws connecting the adapter to the box below, but the swing arm pivot points are raised and interfere with the ears beside the mounting holes on receptacles and switches. These ears may have to be removed. There is a grounding tab with screw, but the adapter is shallow and the tab protrudes into the box enough to interfere with a standard Leviton GFCI outlet (see photo). I had to cut off the tab and use another grounding point. Only one plastic 3/4 threaded plug is included, so supply your own if you don't plan to use the threaded ports. pricey but high quality and good design

It comes complete with screws and one hole plug; kit also includes a foam gasket to waterproof the connection to the single-gang outlet box to which this is mounted. Swing-arms make it easy to get a screwdriver on the rear screws. Very sturdy metal construction. Local hardware stores didn't have anything similar but Amazon delivered the next day! Recommended.

Tight fit with GFCI outlet.

Used outdoors with GFCI. Fit but tight, had to carefully tighten to avoid contact with GFCI outlet.
